The end-stage renal disease population poses a challenge for obtaining venous access required for life-saving invasive cardiac procedures. In this case report, we describe an adult patient with end-stage renal disease in whom the hepatic vein was the only available access to implant a single-lead permanent cardiac pacemaker. A 63-year-old male with endstage renal disease on maintenance hemodialysis and permanent atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter presented with symptomatic bradycardia. Imaging studies revealed all traditional central venous access sites to be occluded/non-accessible. With the assistance of vascular interventional radiology, a trans-hepatic venous catheter was placed. This was then used to place a right ventricular pacing lead with close attention to numerous technical aspects. The procedure was completed successfully with placement of a single-lead permanent cardiac pacemaker.

Different types of carbon-silica fillers were prepared via pyrolysis-cum-water vapor of waste green tires tread and impregnation method. Dual phase fillers have been characterized by energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy in a scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) or STEM-EDX. Phase distribution in hybrid fillers for rubber was investigated. The results achieved show that the conditions of obtaining influence the distribution and the location of the phases in the carbon-silica hybrid fillers as well as their most essential characteristics including specific area, oil absorption number, iodine adsorption number, ash content and others.

One of the most important goals of EU nature and water framework directives is to ensure healthy aquatic ecosystems by the protection of the most valuable species and habitats form the Natura 2000 network, while at the same time ensuring a balance between water/nature protection and the sustainable use of nature’s natural resources. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physico-chemical and microbiological characteristics of four Romanian salty plain lakes included in Natura 2000 Network, in order to assess the degree of organic pollution and to generate the knowledge required for the design and implementation of appropriate measures for maintaining the balance between the water protection and the sustainable use of these protected ecosystems. The water and sediment sampling was performed in two consecutive years (2015 and 2016), in September and the following standard parameters have been determined: pH, chemical oxygen consumption (COC), the degree of trophicity and salinity of the environment, metals content, microbiological indicators and microbial physiological groups involved in nutrient cycling. The pH ranged from 7.56 to 8.93, close or above the upper normal limit of 8.5, being correlated with a high salinity characteristic of chlorinated, sulphated, high sodium and magnesium content waters. Despite the similar values recorded for the physico-chemical parameters in the two consecutive years suggesting a certain degree of stability of the investigated aquatic ecosystems, the COC values indicate a high degree of hypertrophy, which could be attributed to the reduced surface area, ecological pisciculture and agriculture input. The microbiological parameters revealed the existence of both recent and chronic fecal pollution source. The development and evolution of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows shells are based in general on the special methodology of software creation and implementation such as macros, subroutine, custom commands, and specialized features. Microsoft Office for Mac has for long been criticized for its lack of support of Unicode and BiDi languages, notably Arabic and Hebrew. This has not changed in the Office 2008 version. Microsoft Office 2010 (also called Office 2010 and Office 14) is the current version of the Microsoft Office productivity suite for Microsoft Windows, and the successor to Microsoft Office 2007. With Office 2010, users are in control, getting things done and producing amazing results however and wherever they work best. Ms Office 2010 is the last version of Microsoft Office with support for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 due to Office 2013 requiring Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, or Windows RT. Adaptive hardware (Ugurdag, 2006) reflects the capability of a system to maintain or improve its performance in the context of internal or external changes. Adaptation at hardware levels increases the system capabilities beyond what is possible with software-only solutions. Algorithms, techniques, and their implementation in hardware are developed over a diverse variety of applications. The methodology of the On-Off-Line adaptable processors (Todoroi & Micusha, 2012) support development of adaptable software and hardware. Automatic creation of the Off-Line adaptable processors are proved. Development of the On-Line and On-Off-Line adaptable processors based on Off-Line processing creation method is proposed (Todoroi, Micusa, & Todoroi, 2009; Todoroi, 2008a, 2008b).

Cancer detection is a major issue in the medical research nowadays, as cancer is a severe disease, leading to death in many situations. In order to perform tumor recognition based on ultrasound images we defined the textural model of the malignant tumors consisting of the relevant textural features able to best separate these tumors from visually similar tissues and of their specific values: mean, standard deviation, probability distribution. In this paper, we assessed the role that various types of textural microstructure co-occurrence matrices have in the improvement of the textural model of the liver tumors. We considered the classes of HCC (hepato cellular carcinoma), of the cirrhotic parenchyma on which HCC had evolved and of hemangioma, a benign liver tumor. The classifiers of Multilayer Perceptron, Support Vector Machines, the decision trees based algorithms Random Forest and C4.5, respectively adaboost in combination with C4.5, were used for classification performance assessment.

This paper presents an electric drive system whose motor is connected to a battery by means of a buck DC/DC converter. This motor is further connected to an ultracapacitor by means of a boost DC/DC converter. First, operation and break processes are studied when the converters are switched off as well as when they are switched on in current limitation mode. Then, a comparative analysis of the results in the two operation modes is done.
