＜正＞The contacting of a liquid metal/alloy with a freezing substmte during twin roll and belt casting operations commonly involves three phases;the contacting liquid metal,the colder substrate/superstrate being contacted,and an intervening gas phase squeezed in between the two.Depending on interfacial chemical reactions,interracial gas flows,meniscus behaviour,substrate topology,metal wetting/spreading characteristics,etc.,strip products can be cast in a satisfactory manner,or not.This paper describes a number of interesting experiments that have been devised to further understand the nature and role of interfaces in governing a casting machine’s productivity,sheet surface quality,and as-cast microstructures.

Demand Response(DR)is one of the most cost-effective and unfailing techniques used by utilities for consumer load shifting.This research paper presents different DR programs in deregulated environments.The description and the classification of DR along with their potential benefits and associated cost components are presented.In addition,most DR measurement indices and their evaluation are also highlighted.Initially,the economic load model incorporated thermal,wind,and energy storage by considering the elasticity market price from its calculated locational marginal pricing(LMP).The various DR programs like direct load control,critical peak pricing,real-time pricing,time of use,and capacity market programs are considered during this study.The effect of demand response in electricity prices is highlighted using a simulated study on IEEE 30 bus system.Simulation is done by the Shuffled Frog Leap Algorithm(SFLA).Comprehensive performance comparison on voltage deviations,losses,and cost with and without considering DR is also presented in this paper.

The comprehensive knowledge that the delayed systemic and reproduction side effects can be even more deleterious than acute toxicity, has caused a shift in focus toward sublethal effects assessment on physiology and behavior of beneficial insects. In this study, we assessed the risks posed by some insecticides with different mode of action through lethal and delayed systemic sublethal effects on the pupation, adult emergence, and repro- duction of the chrysopid Chrysoperla externa （Hagen, 1861; Neuroptera： Chrysopidae）, an important predator in pest biological control. The maximum field recommended dose （MFRD） and twice （2xMFRD） for chlorantraniliprole, tebufenozide, and pyriproxyfen were harmless to C. externa. In contrast, all the tested chitin synthesis inhibitors （CSIs） were highly detrimental to the predator, despite of their lack of acute lethal toxicity. There- fore, the safety assumed by using IGRs toward beneficial insects is not valid for chrysopids. Dose-response data showed that although all CSIs have a similar mechanism of action, the relative extent of toxicity may differ （novaluron 〉 lufenuron 〉 teflubenzuron）. For CSIs, the delayed systemic effects became obvious at adult emergence, where the predicted no observable effect dose （NOED） was 1/2 048 of the MFRD for novaluron （0.085 ng/insect）, and 1/256 of the MFRD for both lufenuron （0.25 ng/insect） and teflubenzuron （0.6 ng/insect）. Finally, this work emphasized the significance of performing toxicity risk assessments with an adequate posttreatment period to avoid underestimating the toxicities of insecticides, as the acute lethal toxicity assays may not provide accurate information regarding the long-range effects of hazardous compounds.

Jet propulsion technology has been limited to being identified largely with turbojets and turbo-machinery driven jet engines.Of late there has been a renewed interest in pulsejet technology and it has once again caught the imagination of academia.The specific characteristics of the pulsejet,such as easy scalability,absence of moving parts,reduced combustion temperatures;lower NOX formation and the like make it possess varied capabilities for use in the field of jet propulsion and the most viable option for small-scale jet propulsion.In the current work,a numerical analysis encompassing feasibility and validation of a valveless pulsejet engine was attempted using CD-adapco's STAR-CCM+CFD package.Due to lack of comprehensive established mathematical laws to govern the working of a pulsejet,most experimental work being performed is done by trial and error.This necessitates in-depth computational studies in order to shed more light on the understanding of valveless pulsejets.The results have been encouraging and in agreement with observed experimental conclusions such as,i)changes in dimensions affect the working of a pulsejet,ii)presence of a flare enhances the working of a pulsejet,and the close agreement in the frequency of operation.Through continuous study,an optimum initial condition was achieved which enabled the pulsejet to begin operation even before 0.05 s,thereby greatly reducing computational costs if a higher time-scale were to be used.

Clustering of Pregnancy Wastages among Young HIV-Positive Women in a High HIV Prevalence District in India

Context: This paper examined the clustering of pregnancy wastage among HIV-infected pregnant women, particularly focusing on the outcomes of abortions and stillbirths, from a large sample of HIV-positive women to bridge the existing information gap. Methods: Data from a cross-sectional survey conducted among currently married HIV positive women aged 15-29 years in Bagalkot district, Karnataka, India were used. Further to assess the clustering of pregnancy wastage, the binomial distribution was used. Results: The study shows that 2% of the women account for 32% of the total pregnancy wastages and 7% of all the interviewed HIV positive women account for 62% of the total pregnancy wastages. The study further shows that a higher percent observed (29.6%) than expected (15.5%) who had experienced 2 pregnancy wastages suggesting 14.1% more women experienced 2 pregnancy wastages than expected. Again, a positive deviant of 19.2 among women with at least 3 pregnancy wastage also suggests a higher observed than expected pregnancy wastages, and suggests clustering of pregnancy wastages among HIV-positive women. After adjusting for the socio-economic characteristics, the variance of the observed and expected has reduced only marginally. Conclusions: Clustering of pregnancy wastages among HIV positive women suggests for an increased attention on reproductive health of this marginalized group. The findings will be useful for the interventions working with WLHA in India, particularly the knowledge of clustering would help policy makers and program implementers to focus on high risk women who are likely to experience multiple pregnancy losses.

There are potential milk producers and buyers in the Manhi a and Xai-Xai districts, in Southern of Mozambique. The objective of this study was to characterize cow milk marketing in small-scale producers and buyers. The information was collected from the observation and interviews with participants. The results showed that the main constraints on milk production are animal feed and low genetic potential of local breed in Manhi a and Xai-Xai districts, respectively. Milk is sold by farmers as fresh in Manhi a district and handcrafted processing for yogurt, by buyers in Xai-Xai district. Available forage and by-products (maize, rice and wheat bran) can be used to improve the milk production, in both districts.
