Effect of irrigation water containing arsenic on elemental composition of bean and lettuce plants cultivated in calcareous sandy soil

Background:The uptake of arsenic by vegetables from soil irrigated with arsenic enriched groundwater poses a major health *** edible portion of these vegetables transfer arsenic to the human *** uptake of arsenic was studied in bean(Phaseolus vulgaris L.)and lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.)in a controlled greenhouse pot culture with calcareous sandy soil as *** plants were irrigated with water containing sodium arsenate at concentrations 0.1,0.25 and 0.5 mg L^(-1).The total arsenic concentration of the different plants parts was determined by ICP-MS,following microwave-assisted acid *** change in plant biomass production and essential macroelements(Mg,P,K)and microelements concentration(Fe,Mn,Cu,Zn)was also ***:The As concentration in the bean was in the order:root>stem>leaf>bean fruit and in lettuce:root>*** the highest dose(0.5 mg L^(-1))the As concentration in the bean fruit and lettuce leaves was 22.1μg kg^(-1)and 1207.5μg kg^(-1)DW,*** As concentration in the irrigation water resulted in decreased edible biomass production in bean,while in lettuce the edible biomass production *** plant exhibited any visible toxicity *** significant change was observed in the macro and microelements *** total and the water-soluble arsenic in soil amounted to 3.5 mg kg^(−1)and 0.023 mg kg^(−1),*** transfer factor was found to increase with increase in the As treatment *** transfer factor range for bean from root to fruit was 0.003–0.005,and for lettuce from root to leaves was 0.14–***:Considering the FAO-WHO recommended maximum tolerable daily intake(MTDI)limit of 2.1μg kg^(-1)body weight,and the biomass production,both plants should not be cultivated at As treatment level higher than 0.1 mg L^(-1).

Discovering peptides and computational investigations of a multiepitope vaccine target Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Mycobacterium tuberculosis(MTB)is the causative agent of tuberculosis(TB),a prevalent airborne infectious *** the availability of the Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine,its global efficacy remains modest,and tuberculosis persists as a significant global public health *** this challenge and advancing towards the End MTB Strategy,we developed a multiepitope vaccine(MEv)based on immunoinformatics and compu-tational *** screening of MBT protein identified immune-dominant epitopes based on Major Histocompatibility Complex(MHC)allele binding,immunogenicity,antigenicity,allergenicity,toxicity,and cytokine *** epitopes were integrated into an MEv construct with adjuvant and linkers,forming a fully immunogenic vaccine *** analyses encompassed the evaluation of immunological and physicochemical properties,determination of tertiary structure,molecular docking with Toll-Like Receptors(TLR),molecular dynamics(MD)simulations for all atoms,and immune *** MEv comprises 534 amino acids,featuring 6 cytotoxic T lymphocyte,8 helper T lymphocyte,and 7 linear B lymphocyte epitopes,demonstrating high antigenicity and ***,molecular docking studies and triplicate MD simulations revealed enhanced interactions and stability of MEv with the TLR4 complex compared to *** addition,the immune simulation indicated the capacity to effectively induce elevated levels of an-tibodies and cytokines,emphasizing the vaccine’s robust immunogenic *** study presents a promising MEv against TB,exhibiting favorable immunological and physicochemical *** findings provide theoretical support for TB vaccine *** study aligns with the global initiative of the End MTB Strategy,emphasizing its potential impact on addressing persistent challenges in TB control.

A novel weld-pool-length monitoring method based on pixel analysis in plasma arc additive manufacturing

The real-time monitoring of the weld pool during deposition is important for automatic control in plasma arc additive *** obtain a high deposition accuracy,it is essential to maintain a stable weld pool *** this study,a novel passive visual method is proposed to measure the weld pool *** the proposed method,the image quality was improved by designing a special visual system that employed an endoscope and a *** also includes pixel brightness-based and gradient-based algorithms that can adaptively detect feature points at the boundary when the weld pool geometry *** algorithm can also be applied to materials with different solidification *** was performed to measure the real weld pool length in world coordinates,and outlier rejection was performed to increase the accuracy of the ***,tests were carried out on the intersection component,and the results showed that the proposed method performed well in tracking the changing weld pool length and was applicable to the real-time monitoring of different types of materials.

Influence of indoor airflow on airborne disease transmission in a classroom

It has been widely accepted that the most effective way to mitigate airborne disease transmission in an indoor space is to increase the ventilation airflow,measured in air change per hour(ACH).However,increasing ACH did not effectively prevent the spread of *** better understand the role of ACH and airflow large-scale patterns,a comprehensive fully transient computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulation of two-phase flows based on a discrete phase model(DPM)was performed in a university classroom setting with people *** investigations encompass various particle sizes,ventilation layouts,and flow *** findings demonstrated that the particle size threshold at which particles are deemed airborne is highly influenced by the background flow strength and large-scale flow pattern,ranging from 5µm to 10µm in the cases *** effects of occupants are significant and must be precisely accounted for in respiratory particle transport *** enhanced ventilation design(UFAD-CDR)for university classrooms is introduced that places a premium on mitigating airborne disease *** to the baseline design at the same ACH,this design successfully reduced the maximum number density of respiratory particles by up to 85%.A novel airflow-related parameter,Horizontality,is introduced to quantify and connect the large-scale airflow pattern with indoor aerosol *** underscores that ACH alone cannot ensure or regulate air *** addition to the necessary ACH for air exchange,minimizing horizontal bulk motion is essential for reducing aerosol transmissibility within the room.

Within the consistent daily rhythm of human life,intervertebral discs endure a variety of complex loads beyond the influences of gravity and muscle forces,leading to significant morphological changes(in terms of volume,area,and height)as well as biomechanical alterations,including an increase in disc stiffness and a decrease in intradiscal ***,the discs demonstrate an ability to regain their original morphological and biomechanical characteristics after a period of nocturnal *** preservation of normal disc function is critically dependent on this recovery phase,which serves to forestall premature disc *** phenomenon of disc recovery has been extensively documented through numerous in vivo studies employing advanced clinical techniques such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging(Mri),stadiometry,and intradiscal pressure ***,the findings from in vitro studies present a more complex picture,with reports varying between full recovery and only partial recuperation of the disc ***,research focusing on degenerated discs in vitro has shed light on the quantifiable impact of degeneration on the disc ability to *** dynamics within the disc are considered a primary factor in recovery,yet the disc intricate multiscale structure and its viscoelastic properties also play key *** elements interact in complex ways to influence the recovery mechanism,particularly in relation to the overall health of the *** objective of this review is to collate,analyze,and critically evaluate the existing body of in vivo and in vitro research on this topic,providing a comprehensive understanding of disc recovery *** understanding offers a blueprint for future advancements in medical treatments and bionic engineering solutions designed to mimic,support,and enhance the natural recovery processes of intervertebral discs.

The *** Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST)published the Community Resilience Planning Guide in *** NIST Guide advocates for a participatory process for developing a performance measurement framework for the jurisdiction’s resilience against a scenario *** framework centers around tables of expected and desired recovery times for selected community assets,such as electricity,water,and natural gas *** NIST Guide does not provide a method for estimating the expected recovery ***,building high-fidelity computer models for such estimations requires substantial resources that even larger ju-risdictions cannot *** most promising approach to recovery time estimation is to systematically use data elicited from people to tap into the wisdom of the(knowledgeable)*** paper describes a novel research-through-design project to enable the computer-supported elicitation of recovery time series *** work is the first in the literature to examine people’s ability to estimate recovery curves and how design in-fluences such *** main contribution to resilience planning is three-fold:development of a new elicitation tool called Restimate,understanding its potential user base,and providing insights into how it can facilitate resilience *** is the first tool to enable evidence-based expert elicitation in any community with limited resources for resilience *** resilience planning,those who facilitate high-stakes planning activities under large uncertainties(e.g.,mission-critical system design and planning)will benefit from a similar research-through-design process.

Integrating immunoinformatics and computational epitope prediction for a vaccine candidate against respiratory syncytial virus

Respiratory syncytial virus(RSv)poses a significant global health threat,especially affecting infants and the *** this,the present study proposes an innovative approach to vaccine design,utilizing immunoinformatics and computational *** analyzed RSv's structural proteins across both subtypes A and B,identifying potential helper T lymphocyte,cytotoxic T lymphocyte,and linear B lymphocyte *** such as antigenicity,allergenicity,toxicity,and cytokine-inducing potential were rigorously ***,we evaluated the conservancy of these epitopes and their population coverage across various RSv *** comprehensive analysis identified six major histocompatibility complex class I(MHC-I)binding,five MHC-II binding,and three B-cell *** were integrated with suitable linkers and adjuvants to form the ***,molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations demonstrated stable interactions between the vaccine candidate and human Toll-like receptors(TLR4 and TLR5),with a notable preference for *** simulation analysis underscored the vaccine's potential to elicit a strong immune *** study presents a promising RSv vaccine candidate and offers theoretical support,marking a significant advancement in vaccine development ***,the promising in silico findings need to be further validated through additional in vivo studies.

Synthesis of granulated Li_(1.33)Mn_(1.67)O_(4) via two antisolvent methods for lithium adsorption from gas-produced water

Gas-produced water is an accompanying wastewater in the natural gas extraction process,and it is a potential liquid lithium resource that contains a considerable amount of *** study investigated the feasibility of using manganese-based ion sieves to adsorb and extract lithium from gas-produced *** we focused on the applicability of two different granulation methods,extrusion and droplet,in gas-produced water *** types of H_(1.33)Mn_(1.67)O_(4) particles were prepared by the extrusion method(EHMO)and the droplet method(DHMO).The porosity of DHMO was much higher than that of EHMO,and the adsorption performance of DHMO increased with the decrease of binder *** prepared with a binder concentration of 0.14 g·ml^(-1)exhibited the best adsorption performance in gas-produced water,and the Li^(+)adsorption capacity could reach 25.14 mg·g^(-1).In gas-produced water,the adsorption equilibrium of DHMO only took 9 h,and the adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic *** pore diffusion model(PDM)could well describe its adsorption ***,DHMO showed a great selectivity to Li^(+),and the selectivity order of DHMO in gas-produced water was Li^(+)>Ba^(2+)>>Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+),Sr^(2+)>>Na^(+)>>K^(+).After 20 cycles,the Li^(+)adsorption capacity was still higher than 17.30 mg·g^(-1),and the rate of manganese dissolution was less than 1%.
