Thermophilic microorganisms have always been an important part of the ecosystem,particularly in a hot environment,as they play a key role in nutrient recycling at high temperatures where most microorganisms cannot *** most of the thermophiles are archaea,thermophiles can also be found among some species of *** bacteria are very useful in the fundamental study of heat adaptation,and they are also important as potential sources of thermostable enzymes and ***,we have isolated a Gram-positive thermophilic bacterium,Geobacillus ***3 from a volcanic soil sample from Deception Island,*** project was undertaken to analyze the genes of this thermophilic Antarctic bacterium and to determine the presence of thermal-stress adaptation proteins in its *** genome of Geobacillus ***3 was first purified,sequenced,assembled,and *** complete genome was found to harbor genes encoding for useful thermal-stress adaptation *** majority of these proteins were categorized under the family of molecular chaperone and heat shock *** genomic information could eventually provide insights on how the bacterium adapts itself towards high growth temperatures.

According to the latest World Health Organization report 64 million people suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease （COPD）, 3 million people died from COPD and it is predicted that COPD will become the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2030. The alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is a rarely diagnosed hereditary disease caused by a genetic mutation and it is one of the most prevalent genetic disorders primarily affecting the lungs, especially in the form of COPD or emphysema, but in some cases also the liver or skin. The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease recommends all patients with COPD at a young age or significant family history to be examined for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. This article presents the case of a 42 year old, female patient, Portuguese, with history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, 40 pack units/year smoker, with unknown family history, coming to her family doctor with breath shortness, especially during physical activities, with unsatisfying response to pharmacological prescribed therapy. Physical examination was normal. Alpha- 1 antitrypsin deficiency was confirmed by blood testing. All patient＇s first degree relatives were investigated showing low alpha-1 antitrypsin blood concentrations thus genetic tests were later performed. This case reinforces the need for primary care physicians to be aware of alphal-antitrypsin deficit as an underdiagnosed clinical entity.

The cotton plant is a plant belonging to the family Malvaceae and its leaves are often used in folk medicine. The present study aimed to evaluate the mutagenic or antimutagenic activity of the ethanolic extract of Gossypium barbadense L. (EEG) and to analyze its capacity to prevent or repair mutagenic lesions caused by cyclophosphamide (CP). For the Micronucleus test, Swiss mice were divided into 5 groups: negative control;Positive control: treated with 50 mg/kg cyclophosphamide (CP), group receiving EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days;Group receiving EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days associated with CP24h before euthanasia;Group who received CP and EEG 500 mg/kg for 7 days. After the treatment period, the animals were euthanized, the bone marrow removed and the blood smear prepared. From this analysis, it was observed that the EEG caused a significant increase in the number of micronucleated erythrocytes, indicating mutagenic activity of the extract. In addition, it was verified that the extract did not present the capacity to prevent, but it presented the capacity of repair of the chromosomal damages caused by CP.

The coke plant of a steel plant corresponds to the area that transforms a blend of coal into coke for using in blast furnace and steam to power plant. The coking plant of ThyssenKrupp CSA uses the heat recovery technology with stamping charger for stamping and preparation a blend of coals for charging and coking. Stamping technology adds several benefits to the process, such as increased density, homogeneity and alignment of the coal cake charged into the oven, as well as provides better control of the coking process, improves parameters of coke quality and allows coal blending with lower coking power, thereby reducing the production cost of coke and power generation. Through the automation of stamping charger, it is possible to evaluate and calculate the stamped coal density charged and the productivity gains this system provides.

Congenital coronary artery anomalies occur in less than 1% of the general population with clinical consequences ranging from benign incidental findings to sudden cardiac death. More often than not this diagnosis is made on a postmortem examination but up to one third of the patients have symptoms such as exertional chest pain and dyspnea. Due to the correctable nature of this entity and the fact that anomalous origins of coronary arteries can be readily diagnosed by noninvasive cardiac imaging modalities, timely clinical suspicion based on symptoms is critical. We present a case of a 37 years old with exertional chest pain and dyspnea of several years duration who was found to have an anomalous origin of the left main coronary artery. A surgical correction was undertaken which resulted in resolution of his symptoms. Our case highlights the importance of keeping congenital coronary anomalies on the differential diagnosis for exertional chest pain and dyspnea in young individuals and following inconclusive noninvasive testing with more definitive diagnostic modalities.

In this paper we analyze the characteristics of the so-called rare earth elements （REEs） and its industrial applications. We present the policy, or lack thereof, in the countries in the Pacific Rim for its mining and commerce, and the current and future weight that rare earth minerals will have in international trade. The technological revolution experienced over the last 25 years, has brought the REEs to the public＇s attention for being instrumental in obtaining catalysts, lasers and optical fiber, luminescent substances and LEDs, superconductors, permanent magnets, batteries and ultra-capacitors. China＇s leading position as the supplier of these minerals worldwide, and its recent export restriction policy for domestic industrial activities have driven up international prices. Price increase for REEs is leading to the need for both recycling and its replacement. It has also led other countries in the Asia Pacific Rim to prospect new potential sites on their own territories, or even to restart operations in deposits that had been previously abandoned. Those strategies will likely gain greater importance as environmental pollution problems associated with the exploitation, processing, and recovery of REEs increase.
