In a network environment composed of different types of computing centers that can be divided into different layers(clod,edge layer,and others),the interconnection between them offers the possibility of peer-to-peer task *** many resource-constrained devices,the computation of many types of tasks is not feasible because they cannot support such computations as they do not have enough available memory and processing *** this scenario,it is worth considering transferring these tasks to resource-rich platforms,such as Edge Data Centers or remote cloud *** different reasons,it is more exciting and appropriate to download various tasks to specific download destinations depending on the properties and state of the environment and the nature of the *** the same time,establishing an optimal offloading policy,which ensures that all tasks are executed within the required latency and avoids excessive workload on specific computing centers is not *** study presents two alternatives to solve the offloading decision paradigm by introducing two well-known algorithms,Graph Neural Networks(GNN)and Deep Q-Network(DQN).It applies the alternatives on a well-known Edge Computing simulator called PureEdgeSimand compares them with the two defaultmethods,Trade-Off and Round *** showed that variants offer a slight improvement in task success rate and workload *** terms of energy efficiency,they provided similar ***,the success rates of different computing centers are tested,and the lack of capacity of remote cloud servers to respond to applications in real-time is *** novel ways of finding a download strategy in a local networking environment are unique as they emulate the state and structure of the environment innovatively,considering the quality of its connections and constant *** download score defined in this research is a crucial feature for determining the quality of a download path

AIM:To study the prognosis(recurrence and mortality)of patients with ischemic colitis(IC).METHODS:This study was conducted in four Spanish hospitals,participants in the Ischemic Colitis in Spain study We analyzed prospectively 135 consecutive patients who met criteria for definitive or probable IC according to Brandt criteria,and follow up these patients during the next five years,***-term results(recurrence and mortality)were evaluated retrospectively after a median interval of 62 mo(range54-75 mo).RESULTS:Estimated IC recurrence rates were 2.9%,5.1%,8.1%and 9.7%at years 1,2,3 and 5 years,***-year survival was 69%(93 of 135)and 24%(10 of 42 patients)died for causes related to the *** these 10 patients,8 died in their first episode at hospital(4 had gangrenous colitis and 4 fulminant colitis)and 2 due to ***:The five-year recurrence rate of IC was *** the other hand,mortality during follow-up was high and was not associated with ischemic colitis.

Nowadays, the number of cases in which malignant colorectal polyps are removed is increasing due to colorectal cancer screening programmes. Cancerous polyps are classified into non-invasive high grade neoplasia (NHGN), when the cancer has not reached the muscularis mucosa, and malignant polyps, classed as T1, when they have invaded the submucosa. NHGN is considered cured with polypectomy, while the prognosis for malignant polyps depends on various morphological and histological factors. The prognostic factors include, sessile or pedunculated morphology of the polyp, whether partial or en bloc resection is carried out, the degree of differentiation of the carcinoma, vascular or lymphatic involvement, and whether the polypectomy resection margin is tumor free. A malignant polyp at T1 is considered cured with polypectomy ifit is a pedunculated polyp (Ip of the Paris classification), it has been completely resected, it is not poorly differentiated, the resection edge is not affected by the tumor and there is no vascular or lymphatic involvement. The sessile malignant polyp (Is of the Paris classification) at T1 is considered not cured with polypectomy. Only in some cases (e.g. older people with high surgical risk) local excision(polypectomy or endoscopic submucosal dissection or conventional endoscopic mucosal resection) is considered the definitive treatment.

Light polarization control is a key factor in modern *** advances in surface plasmon manipulation have introduced the prospect of more compact and more efficient devices for this ***,the current plasmonic-based polarization optics remain much larger than the wavelength of light,which limits the design degrees of ***,we present a plasmonic traveling-wave nanoantenna using a gold-coated helical carbon nanowire end-fired with a dipolar aperture *** nonresonant helical nanoantenna enables tunable polarization control by swirling surface plasmons on the subwavelength scale and taking advantage of the optical spin–orbit *** closely packed helical traveling-wave nanoantennas(HTNs)are demonstrated to locally convert an incoming light beam into four beams of tunable polarizations and intensities,with the ability to impart different polarization states to the output beams in a controllable ***,by near-field coupling four HTNs of opposite handedness,we demonstrate a subwavelength waveplate-like structure providing a degree of freedom in polarization control that is unachievable with ordinary polarization optics and current metamaterials.

Estimating the global position of a road vehicle without using GPS is a challenge that many scientists look forward to solving in the near future. Normally, inertial and odometry sensors are used to complement GPS measures in an attempt to provide a means for maintaining vehicle odometry during GPS outage. Nonetheless, recent experiments have demonstrated that computer vision can also be used as a valuable source to provide what can be denoted as visual odometry. For this purpose, vehicle motion can be estimated using a non-linear, photogrametric approach based on RAndom SAmple Consensus (RANSAC). The results prove that the detection and selection of relevant feature points is a crucial factor in the global performance of the visual odometry algorithm. The key issues for further improvement are discussed in this letter.

This work presents the design of a robust foam formulation that tolerates harsh reservoir conditions(high salinity,high divalent ion concentration,high temperature,light oil,and hydrocarbon injection gas)in a sandstone *** this,we selected anionic Alpha Olefin Sulfonate(AOS)surfactants and studied their synergistic effects in mixtures with zwitterionic betaines to enhance foam *** laboratory workflow used to define the best formulation followed a de-risking approach in three consecutive ***,(phase 1)the main surfactant(AOS)was selected among a series of commercial candidates in static ***,(phase 2)the betaine booster to be combined with the previously selected AOS was chosen and their ratio optimized in static ***,(phase 3)the surfactant/booster ratio was optimized under dynamic conditions in a porous medium in the absence and the presence of *** a result of this study,a mixture of an AOS C14-C16 and cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine(CAPHS)was selected as the one having the best *** designed formulation was proven to be robust in a wide range of *** generated a strong and stable foam at reservoir conditions,overcoming variations in salinity and foam quality,and tolerated the presence of oil.

Social Network-Aware Interfaces as Facilitators of Innovation

Achieving continuous innovation in organizations requires a balance between exploiting yet acquired knowledge and exploring new knowledge. In addition to having the adequate resources, change and innovation capabilities require specific management support and organizational structures. Recent research has pointed out the importance of social network structure and of the activity of agents that work across domains or disciplines in the innovation-oriented behaviour of organizations. As a consequence, information systems should ideally be able to support the analysis, development and management of such social structure for the benefit of organizational objectives. Current social network interfaces provide an established mental model to workers that can be hypothesized to be adequate for supporting activities that foster innovative behaviour. That behaviour is facilitated through exposing the activities of other workers across organizational structures. This paper reports on the design of a user interface specifically targeted to manage the social aspects of innovation based on some aspects of Hargadon＇s model of innovation and knowledge brokering. The emergent nature of interactions in social network sites is used as the metaphor to foster situated cognition. The interface design assessment is described and some metrics for innovative behaviour that could be derived for such an interface are sketched.
