Among challenges implicit in the transition to the post-fossil fuel energetic model,the finite amount of resources available for the technological implementation of CO_(2) revalorizing processes arises as a central *** development of fully renewable catalytic systems with easier metal recovery strategies would promote the viability and sustainability of synthetic natural gas production circular *** Ni and NiFe catalysts supported over g-Al_(2)O_(3) oxide as reference materials,this work evaluates the potentiality of Ni and NiFe supported biochar catalysts for CO_(2) *** development of competitive biochar catalysts was found dependent on the creation of basic sites on the catalyst *** lower Turn Over Frequencies than Ni/Al catalyst,the absence of basic sites achieved over Ni/C catalyst was related to the depleted catalyst *** NiFe catalysts,analogous Ni_(5)Fe_(1) alloys were constituted over both alumina and biochar *** highest specific activity of the catalyst series,exhibited by the NiFe/C catalyst,was related to the development of surface basic sites along with weaker NiFe-C interactions,which resulted in increased Ni0:NiO surface populations under reaction *** summary,the present work establishes biochar supports as a competitive material to consider within the future low-carbon energetic panorama.

Edible films were prepared with whey protein incorporating candelilla wax,and glycerol in aqueous *** polyphenols were added as bioactive *** optimization based on the water vapor permeability(WVP)of the formulation was performed using a Box-Behnken *** films were characterized by the determination of WVP,moisture,solubility,color,antioxidant and antifungal *** electron microscopy(SEM)was also performed to observe the surface and cross-section *** lowest permeability values were found with concentrations of 1.27,0.3 and 0.5% of protein,wax and glycerol *** was proved that the addition of polyphenols into films causes a significant effect only on solubility and transparency *** films have suitable properties as a barrier for the goods they could be applied *** is proposed for use in foods such as fresh or minimally processed fruits and vegetables.

Simultaneous optimization of even flow and land and timber value in forest planning:a continuous approach

Background:Forest management planning involves deciding which silvicultural treatment should be applied to each stand and at what time to best meet the objectives established for the *** this,many mathematical formulations have been proposed,both within the linear and non-linear programming frameworks,in the latter case generally considering integer variables in a combinatorial *** present a novel approach for planning the management of forests comprising single-species,even-aged stands,using a continuous,multi-objective formulation(considering economic and even flow)which can be solved with gradient-type ***:The continuous formulation has proved robust in forest with different structures and different number of *** results obtained show a clear advantage of the gradient-type methods over heuristics to solve the problems,both in terms of computational time(efficiency)and in the solution obtained(effectiveness).Their improvement increases drastically with the dimension of the problem(number of stands).Conclusions:It is advisable to rigorously analyze the mathematical properties of the objective functions involved in forest management planning *** continuous bi-objective model proposed in this paper works with smooth enough functions and can be efficiently solved by using gradient-type *** advantages of the new methodology are summarized as:it does not require to set management prescriptions in advance,it avoids the division of the planning horizon into periods,and it provides better solutions than the traditional combinatorial ***,the graphical display of trade-off information allows an a posteriori articulation of preferences in an intuitive way,therefore being a very interesting tool for the decision-making process in forest planning.

Compelling evidence supports the crucial role of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)axis activation in many clinical *** the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic,there is an increasing concern about the risk and handling of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection in inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders,such as inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).However,clinical data raised during pandemic suggests that IBD patients do not have an increased risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2 infection or develop a more severe course of *** the present review,we intend to highlight how two potentially important contributors to the inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 infection in IBD patients,the RAGE axis activation as well as the cross-talk with the renin-angiotensin system,are dampened by the high expression of soluble forms of both RAGE and the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE)*** soluble form of RAGE functions as a decoy for its ligands,and soluble ACE2 seems to be an additionally attenuating contributor to RAGE axis activation,particularly by avoiding the transactivation of the RAGE axis that can be produced by the virus-mediated imbalance of the ACE/angiotensin II/angiotensin II receptor type 1 pathway.

Background:To validate the Catquest-9SF questionnaire in Italian,assess the change in visual disability with cataract surgery and determine the correlation between pre-operative Catquest-9SF scores and Lens Opacities Classification System(LOCS)III cataract ***:Prospective,questionnaire validation *** Catquest-9SF questionnaire was forward and back translated and completed by 209 Italian patients before and three months following cataract *** analysis was used to assess its psychometric ***:The Italian Catquest-9SF demonstrated ordered response categories,unidimensionality(item fit statistics range:0.73–1.34),adequate person separation(2.04),and no differential item *** was evident with a mean difference in item difficulty and person ability of 2.04 logits but improved with inclusion of pre-operative data *** was a statistically significant(Friedman tests,p<0.001)median improvement in visual disability of 1.92,3.57,1.44 and 2.94 logits in patients undergoing first eye surgery with and without ocular comorbidity,and second eye surgery with and without ocular comorbidity *** was no statistically significant difference in the improvements among the four groups(Kruskal-Wallis H test,X^(2)(3)=5.445,p=0.142).There was no correlation between Catquest-9SF scores and nuclear opalescence(r_(s)=0.049,p=0.478),nuclear colour(r_(s)=0.008,p=0.909),cortical(r_(s)=0.066,p=0.341),and posterior subcapsular components(r_(s)=0.048,p=0.494).Conclusions:The Italian Catquest-9SF demonstrated good psychometric properties and is suitable for use in Italian speaking *** were similar improvements in visual disability in patients undergoing first or second eye surgery,with or without ocular *** was no correlation between pre-operative Catquest-9SF scores and LOCS III cataract grading.

Stepwise magnetization reversal of geometrically tuned in diameter Ni and FeCo bi-segmented nanowire arrays

Magnetization reversal processes of hexagonal dense arrays of bi-segmented Ni and Fe50Co50 nanowires consisting of two well defined diameters (45 and 80 nm) have been *** nanowires were grown inside of tailored pores of anodic alumina templates by combined anodization,atomic layer deposition (ALD) and electrodeposition *** experiments have allowed to identify their two-step magnetization reversal process ascribed to the respective segments of different *** is concluded from the differential susceptibility observed in the hysteresis loops,contrary to those for nanowires with homogeneous *** results are also confirmed by the first-order reversal curve (FORC) distribution diagrams,where an elongation parallel to the interaction axis around two coercive field values is obtained,which is correlated to the difference in diameter of the two *** well-defined two-step magnetization reversal process through the nanowire diameter design is thought to be very useful for the advanced control of the remagnetization in arrays of magnetic multidomain systems.

Effect of age on visual and refractive results after LASIK: mechanical microkeratome versus femtosecond laser

AIM: To evaluate the effect of age on visual and refractive results after laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) obtained with a mechanical microkeratome or a femtosecond ***: Retrospective, nonrandomized, cohort study. A total of 3826 eyes were included in the study(1725 eyes treated with mechanical LASIK and 2101 eyes treated with femtosecond LASIK). The relationship between patient age and the 3-month postoperative visual and refractive results of both procedures were analyzed by linear regression ***: Three months postoperatively, we found a significant correlation between age and the postoperative spherical equivalent(SE; r2=0.004, P=0.006), efficacy(r2=0.006, P=0.001), and safety indexes(r2=0.05, P=0.0001) in the mechanical LASIK group. On the other hand, we found a significant correlation between age and the postoperative SE(r2=0.02, P=0.0001) and the efficacy index(r2=0.01, P=0.0001) but not the safety index in the femtosecond laser group. Mechanical LASIK provided slightly but significantly better efficacy and predictability in patients 18 to 40 years of age and femtosecond LASIK did so in patients older than 40 years of age. The femtosecond laser provided better safety results than the mechanical microkeratome in both age groups. CONCLUSION: A tendency toward undercorrection and less predictability is found with aging after myopic LASIK regardless of whether the flap was created with a mechanical microkeratome or a femtosecond laser. However, femtosecond laser provides significantly betteroutcomes in terms of efficacy, safety and predictability compared to mechanical microkeratome for the correction of myopia in patients over 40 y.

With the aim of studying the effect of water dynamics on the properties of biological systems, in this paper, we present a quasi-elastic neutron scattering study on three different types of living cells, differing both in their morphological and tumor properties. The measured scattering signal, which essentially originates from hydrogen atoms present in the investigated systems, has been analyzed using a global fitting strategy using an optimized theoretical model that considers various classes of hydrogen atoms and allows disentangling diffusive and rotational motions. The approach has been carefully validated by checking the reliability of the calculation of parameters and their 99% confidence intervals. We demonstrate that quasi-elastic neutron scattering is a suitable experimental technique to characterize the dynamics of intracellular water in the angstrom/picosecond space/time scale and to investigate the effect of water dynamics on cellular biodiversity.

A protocol of polymerase chain reaction-random amplified polymorphic DNAs (PCR-RAPDs) was established to analyse the gene diversity and genotype identification for clones of Sequoia sempervirens (D. Don) Endl. in Chile. Ten (out of 34) clones from introduction trial located in Voipir-Villarrica, Chile, were studied. The PCR-RAPDs technique and a modified hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) protocol were used for genomic DNA extraction. The PCR tests were carried out employing 10-mer random primers. The amplification products were detected by electrophoresis in agarose gels. Forty nine polymorphic bands were obtained with the selected primers (BG04, BF07, BF12, BF13, and BF14) and were ordered according to their molecular size. The genetic similarity between samples was calculated by the Jaccard index and a dendrogram was con- structed using a cluster analysis of unweighted pair group method using arithmetic averages (UPGMA). Of the primers tested, 5 (out of 60) RAPD primers were selected for their reproducibility and high polymorphism. A total of 49 polymorphic RAPD bands were detected out of 252 bands. The genetic similarity analysis demonstrates an extensive genetic variability between the tested clones and the dendrogram depicts the genetic relationships among the clones, suggesting a geographic relationship. The results indicate that the RAPD markers permitted the identification of the assayed clones, although they are derived from the same geo- graphic origin.
