Thirty-nine crude oils and twenty-one rock samples from Niger Delta Basin,Nigeria have been characterized based on their isotope compositions by elemental analysis-isotope ratio mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-isotope ratio mass *** bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole rock extracts,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–28.7‰to–26.8‰,–29.2‰to–27.2‰and–28.5‰to–26.7‰,respectively while the bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole oils,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–25.4‰to–27.8‰,–25.9‰to–28.4‰and–23.5‰to–26.9‰,*** average carbon isotopic compositions of individual alkanes(nC12-nC33)in the rock samples range from–34.9‰to–28.2‰whereas the average isotopic values of individual n-alkanes in the oils range from–31.1‰to–23.8‰.Theδ13C isotope ratios of pristane and phytane in the rock samples range from–29.2‰to–28.2‰and–30.2‰to–27.4‰respectively while the pristane and phytane isotopic values range from–32.1‰to–21.9‰and–30.5‰to–26.9‰,*** isotopic values recorded for the samples indicated that the crude oils were formed from the mixed input of terrigenous and marine organic matter and deposited under oxic to sub-oxic condition in lacustrine-fluvial/deltaic *** stable carbon isotopic compositions were found to be effective in assessing the origin and depositional environments of crude oils in the Niger Delta Basin.

This paper identifies a need to complement the current rich technical and mathematical research agenda on big data with a more information systems and information science strand, which focuses on the business value of big data. An agenda of research for information systems would explore motives for using big data in real organizational contexts, and consider proposed benefits, such as increased effectiveness and efficiency, production of high-quality products/services, creation of added business value, and stimulation of innovation and design. Impacts of such research on the academic community, the industrial and business world, and policy-makers are discussed.

Characterizing the thermal properties of MoS2 is important for the design of electronic devices based on this material. We used frequency domain thermoreflectance to study the cross-plane thermal transport in mechanically exfoliated MoS2 samples supported on SiO2 and muscovite mica substrates. The thickness of MoS2 ranged between one and five layers, and the MoS2 layers were sandwiched between a metal layer and the substrate. In the case of mica, heat transport into the substrate remained the same whether or not a monolayer of MoS2 was present, whereas, for SiO2, heat transport was reduced by surface roughness. We observed a significant improvement in heat transport across monolayer MoS2 as compared to few layer MoS2. For MoS2 on SiO2, the effective thermal interface conductance was improved by more than three times if a monolayer was used. For MoS2 on mica, the thermal interface conductance was approximately two times better for monolayer MoS2. This implies that monolayer MoS2 has superior thermal properties and can be used in electronic devices as an intermediate layer between two materials. Additionally, we also report on the measurement of anisotropic thermal conductivity in bulk MoS2 and mica.

The new type of deep foundation for buildings on saturated, compressible-low strength clayey soil deposits, branded structural cell essentially consists of a rigid concrete top slab, structurally connected to reinforced concrete peripheral walls （diaphragms） that enclose the natural soil. Accordingly, as the initial volume of the confined soft clays within the lateral stiff diaphragms will remain constant upon loading, the hollowed structural cell will be ＂transformed＂ into a very large cross-section pillar of unit weight slightly higher than that of the natural soft clayey soil. This type of foundation seems to be a highly competitive alternative to the friction pile-box foundations （widely used in Mexico City clays）, due to its economic and environmental advantages. Economies result, for example, from the absence of huge excavations hence sparing the need of earth retaining structures. Further savings result from appreciably smaller concrete volumes required for building the structural cell than the friction pile-box foundation; moreover, the construction time of the former is much shorter than that of the latter. Regarding the impact to the environment, less air contamination follows from the fact that both traffic jams and soil excavation lessen appreciably. Considering these facts and others regarding scheduling, it was decided to replace 48-friction pile-box foundations specified in the master plan project by this new type of foundation. The overall behavior of these cell foundations over a five-year period is fared from close visual observations and their leveling during the first three years after their construction.

In this experiment,cobalt ferrite-supported activated carbon(CF-AC)was developed and characterized via the wet impregnation method for the removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions from tannery *** adsorption was carried out to evaluate the effect of experimental operating conditions(pH of solution,contact time,adsorbent dose,and temperature),and the removal efficiencies of Cr and Pb(II)ions by the developed adsorbents were calculated and recorded for all experimental *** variables were estimated and reported as removal efficiencies of 98.2%for Cr and 96.4%for Pb(II)ions at the optimal conditions of 5,0.8 g,80 min,and 333 K for pH,adsorbent dose,contact time,and temperature,*** equilibrium for the sorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions was studied using four widely used isotherm models(the Langmuir,Freundlich,Dubinin-Radushkevich,and Temkin isotherm models).It was found that the Freundlich isotherm model fit better with the coefficient of determination(R2)of 0.9484 and a small sum of square error of *** maximum adsorption capacities(Qm)of Pb(II)and Cr adsorbed onto CF-AC were determined to be 6.27 and 23.6 mg/g,*** adsorption process conformed well to pseudo-second order kinetics as revealed by the high R2 values obtained for both *** thermodynamic parameters showed that adsorption of Cr and Pb(II)ions onto CF-AC was spontaneous,feasible,and endothermic under the studied *** mean adsorption energy(E)values revealed that the adsorption mechanism of Cr and Pb(II)by CF-AC is physical in *** results of the study showed that adsorbent developed from CF-AC can be efficiently used as an environmentally friendly alternative adsorbent,for removal of Cr and Pb(II)ions in tannery wastewater.

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of b-hydroxybutyric acid(BHBA)on performance,nutrient digestibility,organ development,and serum composition in earlyweaned goat ***-four goat kids at 30 d of age were assigned to 4 treatments in a completely randomized design:1)control(basal diet);2)low(basal diet with 3 g/d per animal BHBA);3)medium(basal diet with 6 g/d per animal BHBA;and 4)high(basal diet with 9 g/d per animal BHBA).Subsequently,48(6 kids per treatment)goat kids were randomly selected and slaughtered at 60 and 90 d of *** with the control group,BHBA at low and high doses increased body weight(P<0.05),average daily gain(P<0.01),and average daily starter intake(P<0.01).The BHBA improved organ development,especially at the lowest dose(P<0.01).The digestibility of dry matter and crude protein increased with age(P<0.05).However,BHBA did not affect nutrient *** with the control group,serum ceruloplasmin increased(P<0.05)with high BHBA level at 90 d of ***,the serum creatinine(P<0.05)increased over time but was not affected by *** serum total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase decreased with the high dose of BHBA at 90 d of age(P<0.01).In contrast,the serum glutathione peroxidase and malondialdehyde increased with the high doses of BHBA(P<0.01).Overall,low doses of BHBA were positive for growth performance,organ development,and health status against weaning *** high doses of BHBA in the long term could negatively affect antioxidant status.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer related-death for both men and women and the 1-and5-year relative survival rates are 25%and 6%,***,it is urgent to investigate new antitumor drugs to improve the survival of pancreatic cancer *** peptide substance P(SP)has a widespread distribution throughout the *** binding to the neurokinin-1(NK-1)receptor,SP regulates biological functions related to cancer,such as tumor cell proliferation,neoangiogenesis,the migration of tumor cells for invasion,infiltration and metastasis,and it exerts an antiapoptotic effects on tumor *** is known that the SP/NK-1 receptor system is involved in pancreatic cancer progression:(1)pancreatic cancer cells and samples express NK-1 receptors;(2)the NK-1 receptor is overexpressed in pancreatic cancer cells in comparison with non-tumor cells;(3)nanomolar concentrations of SP induce pancreatic cancer cell proliferation;(4)NK-1 receptor antagonists inhibit pancreatic cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner,at a certain concentration,these antagonists inhibit100%of tumor cells;(5)this antitumor action is medi-ated through the NK-1 receptor,and tumor cells die by apoptosis;and(6)NK-1 receptor antagonists inhibit angiogenesis in pancreatic cancer *** these data suggest that the SP/NK-1 receptor system could play an important role in the development of pancreatic cancer;that the NK-1 receptor could be a new promising therapeutic target in pancreatic cancer,and that NK-1 receptor antagonists could improve the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The objective of this study was to determine how cytosolic triacylglycerols(TAG) are stored in mammary cells and whether this depends on the individual chemical configuration of fatty acids(FA). This objective was accomplished by addition of different FA to a FA-free medium used to culture mammary alveolar cells-large T antigen cells(MAC-T). Treatments consisted of adding FA(palmitate, stearate, oleate, linoleate,rumenic acid [CLA], elaidate and vaccinate) solutions to the medium at 100, 200, 300 and 400 mmol/L concentrations for a 24-h incubation period. At the end of each incubation period, cytosolic TAG, DNA and protein contents were measured. Palmitate, vaccenate, linoleate and CLA increased(P < 0.05) cytosolic TAG(μg/mg protein). Palmitate and CLA increased(P < 0.05) cytosolic TAG adjusted for DNA content. Overall, effects on cytosolic TAG accumulation depended on individual FA structure(chain length, degree of saturation, and number and orientation of FA double bonds). In addition, the long-chain FA used in this study did not have a detrimental effect on MAC-T cells as indicated by cytosolic protein and DNA contents reflecting their biological role in lipid accumulation.
