Effect of organic mineral supplementation in reducing oxidative stress in Holstein calves during short‑term heat stress and recovery conditions

Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on physiological responses,oxidative stress reduction,and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery *** Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment groups:no mineral supplementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four periods of 35 *** were maintained in a temperature-controlled *** experimental period consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon,and a 7-d washing *** Body temperature and respiration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(ppplemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dL)and recovery periods(102.00μg/dL)(pperiod,the serum cortisol was 20.26 ng/mL in the HOM group,which was 5.60 ng/mL lower than in the control group(pp(2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/L),followed by the HOM group during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group(2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/L)during the recovery period(pplasma malondialdehyde and HSp70 levels were decreased by HOM supplementation during the HS and recovery periods,whereas SOD and GpX levels were not significantly affected(p>0.05).The principal coordinate analysis represented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral supplementation;however,temperature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(pERMANOVA:pphylum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased,whereas Fibrobacteres,Spirochaetes,and Tenericutes increased(pponema increased under HS conditions,while Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(p<0.05).Conc

We present a comprehensive catalog with an updated database of the fossil record of Diplopoda in the *** data was collected from descriptions and reports published from 1854 to the *** also include new records from Mexican amber(Upper Oligocene-Lower Miocene),counting 83 unknown fossil inclusions,with the first records of the orders polyxenida,platydesmida,and Julida,as well as the families Sphaeriodesmidae and Trichopolydesmidae within *** to our results,Diplopoda counts 413 records featuring 299 distinct taxa ranging from the Middle Silurian to the Upper pleistocene,representing three subclasses,two subterclasses,six superorders,25 orders,15 superfamilies,55 families,93 genera,and 161 fossil *** date,no fossils of the order Siphonocryptida have been *** fossil record extends over three geological eras:the paleozoic,with 161 taxa,including 97 species;the Mesozoic,with 53 taxa and 22 species;and the Cenozoic,with 85 taxa and 42 *** referred material shows different forms of fossil *** comprises 123 impressions,99 compressions,26 ichnites,predominantly from paleozoic and Mesozoic sediments,and 165 amber inclusions from late Mesozoic and Cenozoic ***,this catalog allows us to estimate the size and taxonomic composition of Diplopoda in the fossil record worldwide.

Metabolic syndrome and the urinary microbiome of patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Objective:To identify possible stone-promoting microbes,we compared the profiles of microbes grown from stones of patients with and without metabolic syndrome(MetS).The association between MetS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact pathophysiologic relationship remains *** evidence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis may lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the time of percutaneous nephrolithotomy,bladder urine and stone fragments were collected from patients with and without *** sample types were subjected to expanded quantitative urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosomal RNA gene ***:Fifty-seven patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 MetS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were similar with respect to demographics and non-MetS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected more frequently in MetS stones(42.2%)compared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were more abundant in stones of MetS patients compared to *** validate our EQUC results,we performed 16 S ribosomal RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positive stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are more common and more abundant in MetS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with MetS regardless of stone composition.

Effects of Fresh Cupressus sempervirens Leaves Infusion on Growth performance, Intestinal Microbiota and Haemato-Biochemical parameters in Broilers

The accumulation of growth-promoting antibiotic residues in animal products and the resistance developed by bacteria in poultry farms has led to a search for natural compounds derived from plants. This study was designed to promote the production performance of broiler chickens using fresh Cupressus sempervirens leaves infusion. Fresh Cupressus sempervirens leaves were harvested, washed, chopped and ground to a paste using a blender and fermented for three days in a closed container at a rate of 500 g/L of water. The solution obtained was filtered and added at the rate of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 ml/L of drinking water. The chickens fed on the graded level of the solution were compared to a control ration without an additive and positive control group supplemented with 1 g antibiotic/kg feed. At the finisher phase and throughout the study period, water intake increased significantly (p p p p pared with the control treatment without additives (T0). Carcass characteristics were not significantly (p > 0.05) affected by the inclusion of Cupressus sempervirens infusion. Haematological parameters significantly (p pendently of the rate of incorporation of the infusion into the drinking water, with the exception of RBCs, MCHT and pCT. Serum content in total protein, globulins, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were significantly (p pressus sempervirens infusion/litre drinking water as compared to all other treatments. AST, ALT, urea, creatine, albumin, total cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were not significantly affected. The lactic acid bacteria load increased significantly (p E. coli and salmonella counts decreased significantly (p < 0.05)

Impact of ribavirin dose on retreatment of chronic hepatitis C patients

AIM: To study the efficacy and factors associated with a sustained virological response (SVR) in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) relapsing patients. METHODS: Out of 1228 CHC patients treated with pegylated interferon (pEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV), 165 (13%) had a relapse. Among these, 62 patients were retreated with pEG-IFN-2a or-2b and RBV. Clinical, biological, virological and histological data were collected. Initial doses and treatment modifications were recorded. The efficacy of retreatment and predictive factors for SVR were analyzed. RESULTS: An SVR was achieved in 42% of patients. SVR was higher in young (patients (27%) (p = 0.007), and in genotype 2 or 3 (57%) than in genotype 1 or 4 (28%) patients (p = 0.023). prolonging therapy for at least 24 wk more than the previous course was associated with higher SVR rates (53% vs 28%, p = 0.04). Also, a better SVR rate was observed with RBV dose/body weight > 15.2 mg/kg per day (70% vs 35%, p = 0.04). In logistic regression, predictors of a response were age (p = 0.018), genotype (p = 0.048) and initial RBV dose/body weight (p = 0.022). None of the patients without a complete early virological response achieved an SVR (negative predictive value = 100%). CONCLUSION: Retreatment with pEG-IFN/RBV is effective in genotype 2 or 3 relapsers, especially in young patients. A high dose of RBV seems to be important for the retreatment response.

The fruits of the Sea buckthorn(Hippophae rhamnoides L.)are a popular plant food and a valuable health *** plants produces a lot of leaves with fine branches as an unnecessary residue,which needs *** aim of the study was to estimate(by HpLC-MS/MS)the qualitative and quantitative content of polyphenolic compounds in different parts of ***(HR),and to determine the level of antioxidant activity of leaves and fruits(by DppH,ABTS methods and ferrozine test).Up to 19 compounds were identified in different parts of *** fruits are rich in flavonoids,including various glycosides of flavonols isorhamnetin,quercetin,and *** isorhamnetin glycosides were not identified in the leaves,while isorhamnetin-3-rhamnosylglactosides and the ellagitannins hippophaenin B,stachyurin and casuarinin were present only in the leaves of the *** bark and roots contained considerably more catechins,but minimal flavonols than the fruits and leaves of *** total phenolics and flavonols were most abundant in water infusions from leaves of HR(especially quercetin-3-O-glucoside-7-O-rhamnoside),compared to methanolic *** significant differences in the quantitative and qualitative content of the fresh and dried leaves were *** highest antioxidant activity by all three methods was detected in the leaves of *** addition to the fruits,the leaves may have a perspective as a source of biologically active substances of HR.

MELD or MELD-Na as a predictive Model for Mortality Following Transjugular Intrahepatic portosystemic Shunt placement

Background and Aim:The model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)was originally developed to predict survival after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIpS).The MELD-sodium(MELD-Na)score has replaced MELD for organ allocation for liver ***,there are limited studies to compare the MELD with MELD-Na to predict mortality after ***:We performed a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent TIpS placement between 2006 and 2016 at our *** primary outcome was mortality,and the secondary outcomes sought to assess which variables could provide prognostic information for mortality after TIpS *** performed receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis to assess the performance of MELD and ***:There were 186 eligible patients in the *** mean pre-TIpS MELD and MELD-Na were 13 and 15,***,mortality after TIpS was 15%at 30 days and 16.7%at 90 *** a comparison of the areas under the ROCs for MELD and MELD-Na,MELD was superior to MELD-Na for 30-day(0.762 vs.0.709)and 90-day(0.780 vs.0.730)mortality after *** optimal cutoff score for 30-day mortality was 15(0.676–0.848)for MELD and 17(0.610–0.808)for MELD-Na,whereas the optimal cutoff score for 90-day mortality was 16(95%CI:0.705–0.855)for MELD and 17(95%CI:0.643–0.817)for *** were 24 patients with high MELD-Na≥17,but with low MELDp was 8.3%.Conclusions:Although MELD-Na is a superior prognostic tool to MELD for predicting overall mortality in cirrhotic patients,MELD tended to outperform MELD-Na to predict mortality after TIpS.
