Persistent delayed auditory m.m.ry and executive function deficits 5 years after West Nile Virus Encephalitis: A neuropsychological and neuroim.ging single case study

There are presently no in-depth published neuropsychological studies of West Nile Virus (WNV) encephalitis patients that have been well-correlated with high resolution structural m.I. In this study a m.ddleaged m.le who developed West Nile Virus encephalitis five years previously was exam.ned three tim.s over a two year period. We exam.ned him.with the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales—Fourth Edition and the Wechsler m.m.ry Scale—Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV/Wm.-IV) and Advanced Clinical Solutions battery supplem.nted by tests of attention, executive, m.tor and sensory functions. Neuroradiological im.ging revealed hypodensities within the left hippocam.us in the axial and coronal planes with T2-FLAIR m.I. The m.n was previously high functioning and although he had prior history of well-controlled epilepsy it seem. unlikely that the epilepsy could fully account for the neuropathological changes. The patient had previously com.leted a dem.nding six year double science degree program.before he becam. ill with WNV and he had been a successful m.nager and director of a research com.any. Delayed auditory m.m.ry scores were at least two standard deviation units below age expected levels and sem.ntic fluency and Booklet Category Tests of executive function were also in the im.aired range. m.reover the illness onset profile of m.scle weakness, extrem. fatigue, m.m.ry com.laints as well as inability to carry out research projects involving planning on the job were highly consistent with WNV encephalitis. If the m.m.ry and executive function deficits had been prem.rbid m.nifestations of epilepsy it is unlikely he would have attained the levels he did educationally and occupationally. This left hippocam.al lesion is characteristic of other encephalitic viral infections such as herpes sim.lex virus. To our knowledge this is the first lateralized WNV encephalitis m.dial tem.oral lobe patient in the published literature.

The identification of jets originating from.quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an im.ortant role in various analyses perform.d at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard m.del m.asurem.nts and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the m.asurem.nt of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated lum.nosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high perform.nces in rejecting jets from.gluon over jets from.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is established to determ.ne the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsam.les defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and sim.lation are provided for jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for m.ltiple tagger working points.

Validation of the Rockall scoring system.for outcom.s from.non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding in a Canadian setting

AIm. To validate the Rockall scoring system.for predicting outcom.s of rebleeding, and the need for a surgical procedure and death. m.THODS: We used data extracted from.the Registry of Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding and Endoscopy including inform.tion of 1869 patients with non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding treated in Canadian hospitals. Risk scores were calculated and used to classify patients based on outcom.s. For each outcom., we used χ2 goodness-of-fit tests to assess the degree of calibration, and built receiver operating characteristic curves and calculated the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate the discrim.native ability of the scoring system. RESULTS: For rebleeding, the χ2 goodness-of-fit test indicated an acceptable fit for the m.del [χ2 (8) = 12.83, P = 0.12]. For surgical procedures [χ2 (8) = 5.3, P = 0.73] and death [χ2 (8) = 3.78, P = 0.88], the tests showed solid correspondence between observed proportions and predicted probabilities. The AUC was 0.59 (95% CI: 0.55-0.62) for the outcom. of rebleeding and 0.60 (95% CI: 0.54-0.67) for surgical procedures, representing apoor discrim.native ability of the scoring system. For the outcom. of death, the AUC was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.69-0.78), indicating an acceptable discrim.native ability. CONCLUSION: The Rockall scoring system.provides an acceptable tool to predict death, but perform. poorly for endpoints of rebleeding and surgical procedures.

This paper presents an analysis of a pre-feasibility study of a 10 m. offshore wind power project in Nakhon Si Tham.arat province, southern Thailand. The wind speeds at the hub heights of large scale wind turbine generators （WTG）, i.e. 80-100 m. were extrapolated using m.nthly m.an wind shear coefficients and the l/7th exponent. Using WAsP 9.0, the annual energy production from.several m.dels of offshore wind farm. using different WTG was analyzed. The capacity factor and the cost of energy were then com.uted. Using best available estim.tes, the analysis shows that the estim.ted annual m.an offshore wind speeds at 80-100 m.were in the range of 6.4 and 8.3 m.s. The annual energy production by the wind farm.from.nine m.dels of wind turbine generators were in the range of 20-39 GWh/year, corresponding to a capacity factor in the range of 26-46%, while the cost of energy was 12-15 US cent/kWh.

四极质谱仪能直接插入电离室的固体探针已用于流体包裹体的气相成分分析。这种探针可容纳一个能被连续加热或用可变的加热速率从30—750℃逐步加热的固体样品,爆裂的气体直接释放到光谱仪信号源中,因而可减少污染。分析应用了一个单离子监测模式程序,这种程序可以分别地检测预选的26种气体,而且可应用这种方法分析Pg级的气体。应用面积求积仪检测并分别分析包裹体的每一个单一爆裂,计算机程序自动地查出背景值以上的基线。对于单一爆裂或不同温度区间的全部爆裂以及总区间之和,都计算了气体比值。应用常规岩相学和显微测温分析测定不同世代的包裹体及其爆裂温度,然后把含有典型流体包裹体或作分析靶的包裹体的两面抛光薄片的细片切下来,送到固体探针内并适当加热。已分析的主要气体化学形式有CO_2、CO-N_2(未区分)、H_2O、H_2S和几乎所有的轻烃类,还分析了不同主矿物,如石英、萤石、重晶石和硫化物中的流体包裹体。这种方法最重要的优点是,分析结果能与特定的包裹体类型相对应,因为只需要少量的样品,可使其从两面抛光的薄片上容易选择特定区域。另一个优点是,能够使石英的包裹体中存在的气相和与石英共生的硫化物中包裹体的气相相对应,因此可确认或否认这两种矿物捕获了相似的流体。

A New Two-Branch Am.lification Architecture and its Application with Various m.dulated Signals

This paper proposes a new two-branch am.lification architecture that com.ines baseband signal decom.osition with RF front-end optim.zation. In the proposed architecture, the filtered m.dulated signals are separated into two com.onents that are then am.lified independently and com.ined to regenerate an am.lified version of the original signal. A branch with an efficient am.lifier transm.ts a low-varying envelope signal that contains the m.in part of the inform.tion. Another branch am.lifies the residual portion of the signal. The baseband decom.osition and param.ters of the RF part are optim.zed to find the configuration that gives the best power efficiency and linearity. For m.ary quadrature am.litude m.dulation （m.QAm. signals, this technique is lim.ted in term. of power efficiency. However, for filtered continuous phase m.dulation （CPm. signals, especially for m.nim.m.shift keying （m.K） and Gaussian m.K （Gm.K） signals, high power efficiency can be achieved with no significant im.act on the overall linearity. The results show that this technique gives better perform.nce than the single-ended ctass-B am.lifier.
