In the present paper, a custom algorithm based on the method of orthogonal collocation on finite elements is presented and used for the location of global homoclinic point-to-point asymptotic connecting orbits. This kind of global bifurcation occurs in a large variety of problems in Applied Sciences, being associated to specific, significant physical aspects of the problem under consideration. In order to confront the difficulties faced when the location of such orbits is attempted, high order boundary conditions are constructed through scale order approximations, and used instead of the more common first order ones. The effectiveness of the implemented algorithm is justified by means of the specific applications and the figures presented.

Phytocenoses in the ecosystems contact zones are characterized by a rather complex structural and dynamical more than one features and by specific development characters under definite physical and geographical conditions. Unlike zonal vegetation, such phytocenoses respond to all environment changes more rapidly. The structure of such phytocenoses allows to determine the way this or that scenarios of climate change would develop at any level of more than one ecosystems. A possibility to use the notion “paragenese” for characterization of phytocenoses under contrast conditions is considered. Paragenese is the development of phytocenoses which are not related to zonal vegetation types by their composition and structure. Probably, the communities from ecosystems contact zones are to be related to a particular “type” of vegetation. Phytocenoses in the contact of light coniferous taiga and extrazonal steppes, as well as relations between zonal forest-steppe at main areas of Lake Baikal basin served as examples for justification of use of the notion “paragenese” to characterize the development of such communities.

The proposed deep learning algorithm will be integrated as a binary classifier under the umbrella of a multi-class classification tool to facilitate the automated detection of non-healthy deformities, anatomical landmarks, pathological findings, other anomalies and normal cases, by examining medical endoscopic images of GI tract. Each binary classifier is trained to detect one specific non-healthy condition. The algorithm analyzed in the present work expands the ability of detection of this tool by classifying GI tract image snapshots into two classes, depicting haemorrhage and non-haemorrhage state. The proposed algorithm is the result of the collaboration between interdisciplinary specialists on AI and Data Analysis, Computer Vision, Gastroenterologists of four University Gastroenterology Departments of Greek Medical Schools. The data used are 195 videos (177 from non-healthy cases and 18 from healthy cases) videos captured from the PillCam(R) Medronics device, originated from 195 patients, all diagnosed with different forms of angioectasia, haemorrhages and other diseases from different sites of the gastrointestinal (GI), mainly including difficult cases of diagnosis. Our AI algorithm is based on convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on annotated images at image level, using a semantic tag indicating whether the image contains angioectasia and haemorrhage traces or not. At least 22 CNN architectures were created and evaluated some of which pre-trained applying transfer learning on ImageNet data. All the CNN variations were introduced, trained to a prevalence dataset of 50%, and evaluated of unseen data. On test data, the best results were obtained from our CNN architectures which do not utilize backbone of transfer learning. Across a balanced dataset from no-healthy images and healthy images from 39 videos from different patients, identified correct diagnosis with sensitivity 90%, specificity 92%, precision 91.8%, FPR 8%, FNR 10%. Background: Anomalous coronary artery (CAA) is a rare condition occurring in less than 1% of individuals. The most common form consists of the left circumflex artery (LCx) arising from the right coronary sinus. These vascular anomalies have been associated with an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. We present a rare case of an anomalous coronary artery in a patient with all three coronary arteries arising from a shared ostium. Case presentation: A 67-year-old transgender Caucasian male with medical history of dyslipidemia and hypertension presented for ischemic workup due to occasional chest pain prior to undergoing male to female gender reassignment surgery. A Regadenosan stress test with SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging revealed moderate sized, moderate intensity perfusion defect reversible in inferolateral wall and fixed in inferior wall. Coronary angiography revealed anomalous origin of the coronary arteries, with all three major coronary arteries arising from a shared, single, ostium originating from the right coronary cusp. Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) showed a “malignant course” of LAD running between the pulmonary artery and aorta. A conservative management was pursued in view of mild symptoms with close follow ups. Conclusion: It is important to evaluate all coronary artery anomalies (CAA) for a “malignant” course due to its associated risk for various cardiac events including sudden cardiac death. Surgical management is indicated in high-risk patients with malignant courses. However, asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms with or without malignant course can be followed closely.

Features of Color Characteristics of Blood Plasma of Patients with Liver Cirrhosis in the Colorimetric System XYZ as Compared with Healthy People

The authors determined a connection between change of functional state of human with liver cirrhosis and color characteristics of blood plasma. Features of color characteristics of blood plasma of patients with liver cirrhosis as compared with those of healthy people were determined by colorimetric method, based on absorption electromagnetic radiation in visible area. The average chromaticity coordinates in the XYZ system for patients with liver cirrhosis are x = 0.352 ± 0.006, y = 0.356 ± 0.005 as compared with healthy people chromaticity coordinates x = 0.32 ± 0.001, y = 0.32 ± 0.002.

Background Heme oxygenase-1 （HO-1） is an enzyme, which catabolizes heme into carbon monoxide, biliverdin and free iron. The induction of this enzyme is an important cytoprotective mechanism, which occurs as an adaptive and beneficial response to a wide variety of oxidant stimuli. HO-1 inducibility is mainly modulated by a （GT）n polymorphism in the promoter region, and has been shown that short （S） repeats are associated with greater up-regulation of HO-1, compared with long （L） repeats. Methods In the present study, 250 healthy Greek individuals have been screened in order to estimate the frequencies of （GT）n alleles in the HO-1 gene. Results Nineteen different alleles, ranging from 17 to 39 repeats, with （GT）23 and （GT）3obeing the most common ones, were identified. Conclusion The possible role of this polymorphism in disease states is discussed.
