Spectroscopic investigations on the effect of humic acid on the formation and solubility of secondary solid phases of Ln_2(CO_3)_3

The formation of secondary Ln（III） solid phases （e.g., Nd2（CO3）3 and sm2（CO3）3） was studied as a function of the humic acid concentration in 0.1 mol/L NaClO4 aqueous solution in the neutral pH range （5–6.5）. The solid phases under investigation were prepared by alkaline precipitation under 100% CO2 atmosphere and characterized by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （ATR-FTIR）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy （TRLFS）, diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible （DR-UV-Vis）, Raman spectroscopy, and solubility measurements. The spectroscopic data obtained indicated that Nd2（CO3）3 and sm2（CO3）3 were stable and remained the solubility limiting solid phases even in the presence of increased humic acid concentration （0.5 g/L） in solution. Upon base addition in the Ln（III）-HA system, decomplexation of the previously formed Ln（III）-humate complexes and precipitation of two distinct phases occurred, the inorganic （Ln2（CO3）3） and the organic phase （HA）, which was adsorbed on the particle surface of the former. Nevertheless, humic acid affected the particle size of the solid phases. Increasing humic acid concentration resulted in decreasing crystallite size of the Nd2（CO3）3 and increasing crystallite size of the sm2（CO3）3 solid phase, and affected inversely the solubility of the solid phases. However, this impact on the solid phase properties was expected to be of minor relevance regarding the chemical behavior and migration of trivalent lanthanides and actinides in the geosphere.

The Upper Carboniferous-Lower Permian （Upper Pennsylvanian-Asselian） Tobra Formation is exposed in the Salt and Trans Indus ranges of Pakistan. The formation exhibits an alluvial plain （alluvial fan-piedmont alluvial plain） facies association in the Salt Range and Khisor Range. In addition, a stream flow facies association is restricted to the eastern Salt Range. The alluvial plain facies association is comprised of clast-supported massive conglomerate （Gmc）, diamictite （Dm） facies, and massive sandstone （sm） iithofacies whereas the stream flow-dominated alluvial plain facies association includes fine-grained sandstone and sUtstone （Fss）, fining upwards pebbly sandstone （Sf）, and massive mudstone （Fro） lithofacies. The lack of glacial signatures （particularly glacial grooves and striations） in the deposits in the Tobra Formation, which are, in contrast, present in their time-equivalent and palaeogeographically nearby strata of the Arabian peninsula, e.g. the Al Khlata Formation of Oman and Unayzah B member of the Sandi Arabia, suggests a pro-to periglacial, i.e. glaciofluvial depositional setting for the Tobra Formation. The sedimentology of the Tobra Formation attests that the Salt Range, Pakistan, occupied a palaeogeographic position just beyond the maximum glacial extent during Upper Pennsylvanian-Asselian time.

The China Infectious Disease Automated-alert and Response System（CIDARS） was successfully implemented and became operational nationwide in 2008. The CIDARS plays an important role in and has been integrated into the routine outbreak monitoring efforts of the Center for Disease Control（CDC） at all levels in China. In the CIDARS, thresholds are determined using the ？Mean＋2SD？ in the early stage which have limitations. This study compared the performance of optimized thresholds defined using the ？Mean ＋2SD？ method to the performance of 5 novel algorithms to select optimal ？Outbreak Gold Standard（OGS）？ and corresponding thresholds for outbreak detection. Data for infectious disease were organized by calendar week and year. The ？Mean＋2 SD？, C1, C2, moving average（MA）, seasonal model（sm）, and cumulative sum（CUSUM） algorithms were applied. Outbreak signals for the predicted value（Px） were calculated using a percentile-based moving window. When the outbreak signals generated by an algorithm were in line with a Px generated outbreak signal for each week, this Px was then defined as the optimized threshold for that algorithm. In this study, six infectious diseases were selected and classified into TYPE A（chickenpox and mumps）, TYPE B（influenza and rubella） and TYPE C [hand foot and mouth disease（HFMD） and scarlet fever]. Optimized thresholds for chickenpox（P_（55））, mumps（P_（50））, influenza（P_（40）, P_（55）, and P_（75））, rubella（P_（45） and P_（75））, HFMD（P_（65） and P_（70））, and scarlet fever（P_（75） and P_（80）） were identified. The C1, C2, CUSUM, sm, and MA algorithms were appropriate for TYPE A. All 6 algorithms were appropriate for TYPE B. C1 and CUSUM algorithms were appropriate for TYPE C. It is critical to incorporate more flexible algorithms as OGS into the CIDRAS and to identify the proper OGS and corresponding recommended optimized threshold by different infectious disease types.

AIM To assess for passive expansion of sub-maximally dilated transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts(TIPS) and compare outcomes with maximally dilated *** Polytetrafluoroethylene covered TIPS(Viatorr) from July 2002 to December 2013 were retrospectively reviewed at two hospitals in a single institution. Two hundred and thirty patients had TIPS maximally dilated to 10 mm(m TIPS), while 43 patients who were at increased risk for hepatic encephalopathy(HE), based on clinical evaluation or low pre-TIPS portosystemic gradient(PSG), had 10 mm TIPS sub-maximally dilated to 8 mm(sm TIPS). Group characteristics(age, gender, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score, post-TIPS PSG and clinical outcomes were compared between groups, including clinical success(ascites or varices), primary patency,primary assisted patency, and severe post-TIPS HE. A subset of fourteen patients with sm TIPS underwent follow-up computed tomography imaging after TIPS creation, and were grouped based on time of imaging( 6 mo). Change in diameter and crosssectional area were measured with 3D imaging software to evaluate for passive *** Patient characteristics were similar between the sm TIPS and m TIPS groups, except for pre-TIPS portosystemic gradient, which was lower in the sm TIPS group(19.4 mm Hg ± 6.8 vs 22.4 mm Hg ± 7.1, P = 0.01). Primary patency and primary assisted patency between sm TIPS and m TIPS was not significantly different(P = 0.64 and 0.55, respectively). Four of the 55 patients(7%) with sm TIPS required TIPS reduction for severe refractory HE, while this occurred in 6 of the 218 patients(3%) with m TIPS(P = 0.12). For the 14 patients with follow-up computed tomography(CT) imaging, the median imaging follow-up was 373 d. There was an increase in median TIPS diameter, median percent diameter change, median area, and median percent area change in patients with CT follow-up greater than 6 mo after TIPS placement compared to follow-up within 6 mo(

In this study, Enteromius parablabes [1] was analyzed with the aim of providing baseline information regarding the diploid chromosome number and karyotype differences of both sexes. The diploid chromosome number (2n) was 50 for both sexes, and this corresponds to the diploid chromosome number reported for most small African Barbus species. The fundamental number (NFa) of the male and female was 81 and 98 respectively. The first pair of metaphase chromosomes which has been suggested to be a marker for the small African Barbus group was conspicuously larger in the female karyotype. The karyotype of the female consisted more of metacentric (39m + 7sm + 2st + 2t) which is common in the group while the karyotype of the male which consisted more of telocentric chromosomes (10m + 21st + 19T) is scarce. The chromosomal number obtained for E. parablabes demonstrates its diploid status in the context of the ploidy lines characteristic of the African Barbus assemblage.

＜正＞ The structures of the rare-earth element （REE） disilicates at 1 bar （type A to J phases） [1] vary markedly with the monotonic decrease in size of the REE+3 cation from La to Lu, and the limits of accommodation by the individual structure types are revealed by discontinuities in plots of mean REE+3-O bond distances. We are investigating the response of this structure-composition relationship to high （10-20 GPa） pressure, as well as the influence of the spatial accommodation and bonding requirements of the large-sized REE+3 cations on structure type at high pressure. Crystals were synthesized at 10 GPa and 1600-1700cccccccc using oxide mixtures and the MA6/8 superpress at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Three new phases are reported. A starting composition of La disilicate stoichiometry yielded a La orthosilicate （La4Si3O12） with a defect Ba3（PO4）2-type structure （space group C2/m, a = 9.453, b = 16.382, c = 7.249 ,. = 115.78 ）, and analogous to the low pressure olivine-type phase [La2.67 0.33（SiO4）2]. Neodymium, sm, Eu, and Gd disilicate starting compositions resulted in a new disilicate phase （type K） with a diorthosilicate structure: e.g., Nd2Si2O7 （space group P21/n, a = 6.666, b = 6.724, c = 12.397 ,. = 102.15 , Dx = 5.584 g/cm3）, and Gd2Si2O7 （space group P21/n, a = 6.556, b = 6.647, c = 12.240 ,. = 102.84 , Dx = 6.165 g/cm3）. Dysprosium disilicate starting composition resulted in a new disilicate phase （type L）: Dy2Si2O7 （space group P-1, a = 6.597, b = 6.650, c = 18.058 = 83.79,. = 88.65,. = 88.50, Dx = 6.243 g/cm3）. The structure contains a linear triple tetrahedral group （similar to the low pressure type B phase）, and a tetrahedrally-coordinated Si position with Si disordered in a manner consistent with trigonal bipyramidal pentacoordinate Si at the pressure of synthesis.

Genotype-Specific Microsatellite (SSR) Markers for the Sugarcane Germplasm from the Karst Region of Guizhou, China

Genetic variability among sugarcane genotypes from the Karst region of China was evaluated using genotype-specific microsatellite (SSR) markers. Eighteen sugarcane genotypes including 13 active cultivars and five elite QT-series clones bred locally were screened for genetic variability with 21 SSR primer pairs. All the primer pairs were highly polymorphic and amplified a total of 167 alleles with an average of eight alleles per primer pair. The average polymorphism information content (PIC) value was 0.86 with a range of 0.68 and 0.92. A UPGMA dendrogram categorized the 18 sugarcane genotypes into three major groups containing three, ten and five genotypes, respectively. No geographical affinity was observed among genotypes within the same group. Eight SSR primer pairs produced cultivar-specific alleles, of which five alleles were unique to the QT-series clones, namely, smC334BS-165 and smC851MS-145 in QT 08-558, mSSCIR43-229 in QT 4, sm597CS-182 in QT 08-536 and smC7CUQ-168 in QT 06-212. The clone-specific SSR alleles will be useful in identifying elite QT-series clones for use in the sugarcane crossing programs in China.

Objective:Describe modern trends in congestive heart failure(CHF)among elderly(>65 years of age)in the United States,to identify potentially successful rural *** CHF mortality using multiple-(MCOD)versus underlying-(UCOD)cause of death ***:*** for Disease Control and Prevention mortality files(WONDER internet site).Results:Using MCOD data,overall mortality rates/100,000 population(and 95%confidence intervals)for CHF among persons>65 years of age(1999-2013)were 482.0(481.2-482.8)for large central and large fringe metropolitan(LCLF)counties,549.6(548.6-550.7)in small and medium metropolitan(sm)counties,and 652.6(650.9-654.0)in micropolitan and non-core,non-metropolitan(MNCNM)*** positive deviance NCNM counties(collectively including 198,581 residents>65 years of age)had an overall CHF rate of 300.9(275.0-326.9)in *** was significantly lower than the LCLF rate for 2013(482.0[481.2-482.8]),and rep-resented a reduction of 47%since *** CHF occurrence as estimated with MCOD was 3.4-fold higher than that obtained with ***:These data illustrate underestimation of CHF by UCOD data and the importance of correct death *** CHF mortality rates are higher than urban rates,but some positive deviance counties demonstrate that this is not *** research is needed to understand the relative contribution of research innovation,medical care,and public health to rural-urban disparities and the relative success of positive deviance counties.
