Results of single stage exchange arthroplasty with retention of well fixed cement-less femoral component in management of infected total hip arthroplasty

AiM To investigate success of one stage exchange with retention of fixed acetabular *** Fifteen patients treated by single stage acetabular component exchange with retention of well-fixed femoral component in infected total hip arthroplasty(THA)were retrospectively *** criteria were patients with painful chronic infected total *** patient had radiologically well fixed femoral components,absence of major soft tissue or bone defect compromising,and infecting organism was not poly or virulent *** organisms were identified preoperatively in14 patients(93.3%),coagulase negative Staphylococcus was the infecting organism in 8 patients(53.3%).RESULTS Mean age of the patients at surgery was 58.93(±10.67)*** follow-up was 102.8 mo(36-217 mo,SD56.4).Fourteen patients had no recurrence of the infection;one hip(6.7%)was revised for management of *** analysis using Kaplan Meier curve showed 93.3%survival *** failure in our series;the infection recurred after 14 mo,the patient was treated successfully with surgical intervention by irrigation,and debridement and liner *** complications:The first patient had recurrent hip dislocation 12 years following the definitive procedure,which was managed by revision THA with abductor reconstruction and constrained acetabular liner;the second complication was aseptic loosening of the acetabular component 2years following the definitive *** Successful in management of infected THA when following criteria are met;well-fixed stem,no draining sinuses,non-immune compromised patients,and infection with sensitive organisms.

The SMYD(SET and MYND domain)family of lysine methyltransferases(KMTs)plays pivotal roles in various cellular processes,including gene expression regulation and DNA damage *** identified as genuine histone methyltransferases,specific members of this family have recently been shown to methylate non-histone proteins such as p53,VEGFR,and the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor(pRb).To gain further functional insights into this family of KMTs,we generated the protein interaction network for three different human SMYD proteins(SMYD2,SMYD3,and SMYD5).Characterization of each SMYD protein network revealed that they associate with both shared and unique sets of *** those,we found that HSP90 and several of its co-chaperones interact specifically with the tetratrico peptide repeat(TPR)-containing SMYD2 and ***,using proteomic and biochemical techniques,we provide evidence that SMYD2 methylates K209 and K615 on HSP90 nucleotide-binding and dimerization domains,*** addition,we found that each methylation site displays unique reactivity in regard to the presence of HSP90 co-chaperones,pH,and demethylation by the lysine amine oxidase LSD1,suggesting that alternative mechanisms control HSP90 methylation by ***,this study highlights the ability of SMYD proteins to form unique protein complexes that may underlie their various biological functions and the SMYD2-mediated methylation of the key molecular chaperone HSP90.

A computational method to help identify and measure metallines in high resolution QSO spectra

A computational code is developed to help identify metal absorption lines in high resolution QSO spectra, especially in the Lyα forest. The input to the code includes a list of line central wavelengths, column densities and Doppler widths. The code then searches for candidate metal absorption systems and assesses the probability that each system could be real. The framework of the strategy we employ is described in detail and we discuss how to estimate the errors in line profile fitting that are essential to identification. A series of artificial spectra is constructed to calibrate the performance of the code. Due to the effects of blending and noise on Voigt profile fitting, the completeness of the identification depends on the column density of absorbers. For intermediate and strong artificial metal absorbers, more than 90% could be confirmed by the code. The results of applying the code to the real spectra of QSOs HS0757＋5218 and Q0100＋1300 are also presented.

以笔者1992年提出的灰色绝对关联度模型为基础,构造出分别从相似性和接近性两个不同视角测度序列之间的相互关系和影响的灰色关联分析模型,并研究了灰色相似关联度和灰色接近关联度的计算及性质,最后给出一个算例.新模型克服了原模型存在的问题,更易于实际应用.相似关联度主要用于测度序列折线在几何形状上的相似程度;接近关联度用于测度序列折线在空间中的接近程度.需要说明的是,接近关联度仅适用于序列的意义、量纲完全相同的情形,当序列的意义、量纲不同时,研究其接近关联度没有意义.

intra-axonal protein synthesis–a new target for neural repair?

Although initially argued to be a feature of immature neurons with incomplete polarization, there is clear evidence that neurons in the peripheral nervous system retain the capacity for intra-axonal protein synthe- sis well into adulthood. This localized protein synthesis has been shown to contribute to injury signaling and axon regeneration in peripheral nerves. Recent works point to potential for protein synthesis in axons of the vertebrate central nervous system, mRNAs and protein synthesis machinery have now been docu- mented in lamprey, mouse, and rat spinal cord axons. intra-axonal protein synthesis appears to be activated in adult vertebrate spinal cord axons when they are regeneration-competent. Rat spinal cord axons regen- erating into a peripheral nerve graft contain mRNAs and markers of activated translational machinery. indeed, levels of some growth-associated mRNAs in these spinal cord axons are comparable to the regen- erating sciatic nerve. Markers of active translation tend to decrease when these axons stop growing, but can be reactivated by a second axotomy. These emerging observations raise the possibility that mRNA transport into and translation within axons could be targeted to facilitate regeneration in both the peripheral and central nervous systems.

Dish-like higher-ordered palladium nanostructures through metal ion-ligand complexation

Unlike nucleation and growth in simple precipitation processes, described by the classical theory, metal nanoparticles formed in organic solvents with capping ligands often involve chemical reactions that occur homogeneously in solution or heterogeneously on the metal surface. These chemical reactions lead to the formation of intermediates that occurs in the process of deposition onto nuclei during the reduction. The understanding of these chemical reactions would enable a better design of functional metal nanocrystals, even those with unconventional hierarchical morphologies. in this study, we report the formation of dish-shaped nanostructures of palladium （Pd） obtained from palladium acetylacetonate （Pd（acac）2） in the presence of oleylamine and oleic acid. The process was correlated with the kinetic-controlled evolution of two-dimensional （2D） Pd nanosheets. The formation of Pd-ligand complexes was revealed using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. These intermediates affected the formation kinetics of the 2D nanostructures and higher-ordered morphology of the nanodishes.
