Towards a sustainable campus-city relationship:A systematic review of the literature

The relationship between a university and its city is considered strategical to achieve university targeted ambitions and *** university-city relationship is also encouraged for the benefit of the city,as universities unleash their respective cities’potentials to act as driving forces not only for their local communities,but also for the whole ***,maintaining a mutual relationship between the university and the city is considered essential to accomplish strategic goals for ***,the nature of this relationship is quite complex,overlapped,interconnected,and ***,this paper conducted a systematic review of the literature on university-city and campus-city relationships to evaluate recent research trends to uncover the aspects that connect universities with their respective *** search included articles published in 4 different databases from January 1990 to January 2021.A total number of 50 articles were selected in this *** findings uncovered different aspects that could help or hinder university-city relationship based on the physical and functional linkage between the campus and the ***,findings have shown that it is necessary to understand universities according to their contextual differences,as universities have shown different impacts on their respective cities in terms of their sizes and *** have also shown that the impact of the physical connection between the university and the city goes far beyond campus’s accessibility as it deeply affects students’social life as ***,decision makers,stakeholders,and university administrators need to co-design campus development process especially in the early stages to maximize the mutual benefits of campus-city *** main conclusions of this paper address several perspectives and lessons for a more sustainable campus-city relationship.

Effects of Rice Husk and Rice Husk Charcoal on Soil Physicochemical Properties, Rice Growth and Yield

To investigate the effect of the application of rice husk (RH) and rice husk charcoal (RHC) on soil properties and rice production, pot experiment comprising of five treatments was conducted. Soil was mixed at the rate of 0 (control), 2% and 4% (w/w) with RH and RHC, respectively with randomized complete block design (RCBD). RHC incorporation had a potential to reduce the acidity of the soil, whereas, RH incorporation had almost no effect on the pH of the soil. RH and RHC amendment both increased the saturated hydraulic conductivity, saturated water content, plant available water and field capacity but decreased the bulk density of soil. Crop growth components at harvest revealed that the highest plant height was recorded in RH4%. However, for the panicle length, panicle weight and number of tillers, the highest value was found in RHC2%, 14.2 cm, 4.0 g and 28.8 cm, respectively. Furthermore, number of panicle, 1000-grains weight and grain yield were also found highest in RHC2%, 22.4 g and 4.41 t/ha, respectively. However, for the number of grain per panicle and percentage of filled grain, the highest value was found in RH4%, 79.0 and 88.5, respectively. The grain yield increased by 38%, 28%, 18% and 22% and the biological yield increased by 27%, 18%, 14%, and 16% for RHC2%, RHC4%, RH2%, and RH4%, respectively, compared to that of the control;however, the significant difference was found only for RHC2% for both. The harvest index increased under all application rates of RH and RHC compared to that of control.

β-烟酰胺单核苷酸(β-nicotinamide mononucleotide,NMN)作为人体内重要辅酶烟酰胺腺嘌呤二核苷酸(nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide,NAD+)的直接前体受到了广泛关注,目前工业上主要采用化学法或化学-酶催化法进行合成,发酵法仍未取得突破。为获得一株高产NMN的工程菌株,对大肠杆菌进行了代谢途径改造。首先在大肠杆菌中异源表达了来自松噬几丁质菌(Chitinophaga pinensis)的烟酰胺磷酸核糖转移酶,构建了NMN的补救合成途径;为增强前体5-磷酸核糖-1-焦磷酸(5-phosphoribose 1-pyrophosphate,PRPP)的供应,过表达了从葡萄糖出发的多个途径酶,促进了葡萄糖向磷酸戊糖途径的流动;同时,为有利于NMN积累,通过敲除NMN下游代谢分解途径基因pncC、ushA以及调控NAD+衍生物基因nadR,所获得的重组菌产量摇瓶水平达到60 mg/L,是初始产量的4.95倍;进一步在5 L罐上进行发酵试验,产量最高达到390.1 mg/L。该菌株用于NMN的发酵生产具有良好的潜力。

Excess available K and Fe in Fe ore tailings with organic matter amendment and water-deficiencies may restrain plant colonization and growth,which hinders the formation of eco-engineered soil from these tailings for sustainable and cost-effective mine site *** mycorrhizal(AM)fungi are widely demonstrated to assist plant growth under various unfavorable ***,it is still unclear whether AM symbiosis in tailings amended with different types of plant biomass and under different water conditions could overcome the surplus K and Fe stress for plants in Fe ore tailings,and if so,by what ***,host plants(Sorghum *** ***),either colonized or noncolonized by the AM fungi(Glomus spp.),were cultivated in lucerne hay(LH,C:N ratio of 18)-or sugarcane mulch(SM,C:N ratio of 78)-amended Fe ore tailings under well-watered(55%water-holding capacity(WHC)of tailings)or water-deficient(30%WHC of tailings)*** mycorrhizal colonization,plant growth,and mineral elemental uptake and partitioning were *** indicated that AM fungal colonization improved plant growth in tailings amended with plant biomass under water-deficient *** mycorrhizal fungal colonization enhanced plant mineral element uptake,especially P,both in the LH-and SM-amended tailings regardless of water ***,AM symbiosis development restrained the translocation of excess elements(i.e.,K and Fe)from plant roots to shoots,thereby relieving their *** AM fungal roles in P uptake and excess elemental partitioning were greater in LH-amended tailings than in SM-amended *** deficiency weakened AM fungal colonization and functions in terms of mineral element uptake and *** findings highlighted the vital role AM fungi played in regulating plant growth and nutrition status in Fe ore tailings technosol,providing an important basis for involvement of AM fungi in the eco-engineered pedo
