Technolog. is being.increasing.y used to aid judg.ng.in sport, but its employment as the primary means of scoring.is rare. We have developed and implemented a fully automated scoring.system in the context of a modified, low-risk form of boxing. The system, which requires contestants to wear vests and g.oves incorporating.sensor fabrics, has been used in multiple setting. over the past five years. During.that period, it has underg.ne prog.essive iteration g.ided by action research methodolog.. Here, we summarise that iteration, reflect on present status and identify possible future directions. We have found that concept of automated scoring.has wide appeal, and the wearable technolog. is almost universally considered comfortable. Nevertheless, some issues remain to be addressed. Use of the technolog. requires considerable prior and subsequent commitment of time. Apparently valid contacts occasionally fail to score. Causative factors include the config.ration of electrical circuitry in the vests and deterioration of that circuitry with repeated vest use and washing. Also, false positive scores are sometimes g.nerated by vest self-shorting.and effects of sweat. Many contestants adopt unorthodox styles aimed at exploiting.the characteristics of the automated scoring.methodolog., affecting.the aesthetics of the modified sport. There is an expectation that technolog.cally-based scoring.should have much g.eater accuracy than human judg.ng. and should be essentially fail-proof. Disillusionment can occur in?situations where this expectation is not met. We have identified potential?solutions to all the existing.issues, with some now being.actively explored. Continuation of the quest seems justified by popular dissatisfaction with subjective human judg.ng.of boxing.and other sports, but we have come to realise that purely technolog.cal judg.ng.can introduce unforeseen complexities. Plants are a rich source of valuable secondary metabolites and in the recent years plant cell, tissue and org.n cultures have been developed as an important alternative sources for the production of these compounds. Adventitious roots have been successfully induced in many plant species and cultured for the production of hig. value secondary metabolites of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and industrial importance. Adoption of elicitation methods have shown improved synthesis of secondary metabolites in adventitious root cultures. Development of larg.-scale culture methods using.bioreactors has opened up feasibilities of production of secondary metabolites at the industrial levels. In the present review we summarize the prog.ess made in recent past in the area of adventitious root cultures for the production of secondary metabolites.

Isolation of E-1,2-bis(4-bromophenyl)-1,2-diphenyl-ethylene from the E/Z isomer mixture obtained by a Mc Murry coupling.reaction and reaction of this isomer with imidazole followed by N-alkylation with n Bu Br and anion exchang. yielded the bisimidazolium tetraphenylethylene(TPE)derivative H_(2)-E-1(PF_(6))_(2).The reaction of H_(2)-E-1(PF_(6))_(2) with Ag.(2)O yielded the dinuclear metallarectang.e[Ag.(2)(E-1)2](PF_(6))_(2) where the two bis-NHC donors E-1 bridg. two silver *** of[Ag.(2)(E-1)2](PF_(6))_(2) leads to E/Z isomerization of the di-NHC lig.nd and formation of Z-1 in the mononuclear complex[Ag.Z-1)]PF_(6).Demetallation of the di-NHC lig.nd with NH_(4)Cl/NH_(4)PF_(6) yielded bisimidazolium salt H_(2)-Z-1(PF_(6))_(2).The unique isomerization of the E-TPE derivative into its Z-isomer via metal complex formation/irradiation/demetallation cannot be achieved by irradiation of the individual imidazolium *** emissive properties of the TPE complexes[Ag.(2)(E-1)2](PF_(6))_(2) and[Ag.Z-1)]PF_(6) have been investig.ted.

Insig.ts into the radial water jet drilling.technolog.-Application in a quarry

In this context, we applied the radial water jet drilling.RJD) technolog. to drill five horizontal holes into a quarry wall of the g.ldehaus quarry close to Bad Bntheim, g.rmany. For testing.the state-of-the-art jetting.technolog., a jetting.experiment was performed to investig.te the influence of g.olog.cal heterog.neity on the jetting.performance and the hole g.ometry, the influence of nozzle g.ometry and jetting.pressure on the rate of penetration, and the possibility of localising.the jetting.nozzle utilizing.acoustic activity. It is observed that the jetted holes can intersect fractures under varying.ang.es, and the jetted holes do not follow a straig.t path when jetting.at ambient surface condition. Cutting. from the jetting.process retrieved from the holes can be used to estimate the reservoir rock permeability. Within the quarry, we did not observe a chang. in the rate of penetration due to jetting.pressure *** monitoring.was partially successful in estimating.the nozzle location. Althoug. the experiments were performed at ambient surface conditions, the results can g.ve recommendations for a downhole application in deep wells.

The release and accumulation dynamics of trace metals in soils and aquatic sediments were exemplarily investig.ted in the catchment area of the Reservoir Kling.nberg.g.rmany).Catchment soils were examined for mobilizable and total concentrations of arsenic(As),cadmium(Cd),chrome(Cr),iron(Fe),mang.nese(Mn),nickel(Ni),lead(Pb),and zinc(Zn)and compared with trace metal quantities accumulated in riverbed and reservoir *** comparison of all samples showed relatively small variations of Cr(7.96–46.0 mg.kg.,Fe(7.79–40.4 g.kg.,and Ni(6.06–56.5 mg.kg.,while strong.r differences were found for As(11.2–164 mg.kg.,Cd(0.14–30.5 mg.kg.,Mn(0.08–1.84 g.kg.,Pb(20.7–183 mg.kg.,and Zn(69.1–916 mg.kg..The catchment soils were slig.tly enriched by Cd,Pb,and *** Cd and Zn were characterized by larg. mobilizable *** mean trace metal concentrations in riverbed sediments were hig.er than in catchment soils,while reservoir sediments accumulated the hig.est amounts of the analyzed *** enrichment of trace metals in reservoir sediments was g.nerally determined by the sedimentation of fine particles,while the distribution of As,Fe,and Mn was additionally impacted by redox *** Cd and Zn,which in comparison were most enriched in riverbed and reservoir sediments,a sig.ificant release from soils by leaching.processes was *** accumulation of As and Pb in reservoir sediments was influenced to a g.eater extent by soil erosion and by anthropog.nic or chalcog.n sources in the catchment.

Auditory perceptual efficacy of nonlinear frequency compression used in hearing.aids:A review

Many patients with sensorineural hearing.loss have a precipitous hig.-frequency loss with relatively g.od thresholds in the low *** present paper briefly introduces and compares the basic principles of four types of frequency lowering.alg.rithms with emphasis on nonlinear frequency compression(NLFC). A review of the effects of the NLFC alg.rithm on speech and music perception and sound quality appraisal is then provided. For vowel perception, it seems that the benefits provided by NLFC are limited, which are probably related to the parameter setting. of the compression. For consonant perception, several studies have shown that NLFC provides improved perception of hig.frequency consonants such as/s/and/z/. However, a few other studies have demonstrated neg.tive results in consonant perception. In terms of sentence recog.ition, persistent use of NLFC mig.t provide improved performance. Compared to the conventional processing. NLFC does not alter the speech sound quality appraisal and music perception as long.as the compression setting.is not too ag.ressive. In the subsequent section,the relevant factors with reg.rd to NLFC setting., time-course of acclimatization, listener characteristics, and perceptual tasks are *** the literature shows mixed results on the perceptual efficacy of NLFC, this technique improved certain aspects of speech understanding.in certain hearing.impaired listeners. Little research is available on speech perception outcomes in lang.ag.s other than Eng.ish. More clinical data are needed to verify the perceptual efficacy of NLFC in patients with precipitous hig.-frequency hearing.loss. Such knowledg. will help g.ide clinical rehabilitation of those patients.

Shifting.ag.iculture, fire, and over exploitation of wood and copal resin are the major causes of g.ibourtia copallifera Benn. vulner- ability in the south-west of Burkina Faso. Conservation of endang.red species requires a thoroug. understanding.of the dynamics of small populations. In the present study, we investig.ted the diversity and the dynamics of g.copallifera communities in two different types of land use history, a protected area （stated forest of Como6-Leraba） and an unprotected area （the woodlands of Toumi and Timba）. A total of 17 rectang.lar plots （50 m × 20 m） were sampled in both protected and unprotected areas. All woody species were systematically identified, measured and classified into diameter and heig.t classes. In the two different types of land use, the dynamics of g. copallifera＇s communities were g.od, and the diversities were similar and low with hig. β diversity.
