During.the last few years, condensed thienopyrimidine derivatives have received considerable attention. The effect of native medical plant “Clammy Inula” (Inula viscosa L.) in combination with a low dose of the fung.cide iprodione (Rovral®. ag.inst g.ay mould disease (Botryis cinerea Pers.) was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. The results revealed that the plant extract had antifung.l effect on mycelial g.owth rate and conidial g.rmiation of pathog.n isolates. The plant extract at the concentration of 1% - 4% and the fung.cide iprodione at the concentration of 0.2 - 9 μg.middotml-1 sig.ificantly reduced the mycelium g.owth and g.rmination. In addition, the plant extract at the concentration of 2% - 4% and iprodione at the concentration of 300 - 600 μg.middotml-1 sig.ificantly reduced the disease severity (%) on bean plants compared to the controls. The reduction of mycelium g.owth, g.rmination, and disease severity was positively correlated with increasing.plant extract and fung.cide concentrations. The combination of a low dose of plant extract and fung.cide at (EC50) was able to reduce disease severity of g.ay mold by 84%. While, plant extract and fung.cide alone reduced disease severity by 46% & 39% and by 70% & 76% for the isolate (Bo5-10 and Bc 99), respectively, compared with controls. The application of water extracts of I. viscose in combination of a low dose of an effective fung.cide (iprodione) can be a feasible tool in reducing.g.ay mould disease severity, but farther studies are still needed under field conditions to evaluate efficacy ag.inst the disease under field conditions.

An extension of the authors＇ previous discovery of in vitro antitumor activity of substituted thino [2,3-d] prymidine derivatives is reported. The synthesis of some new spirothino [2,3-d] prymidine （4a-f）, imidazolidin, substituted prymidinyl and substituted thiazolidine thino [2,3-d] prymidine derivatives have been described. Thirteen of the obtained compounds were selected by the NCI and evaluated for their in vitro anticancer activity. Seven of the investig.ted compounds, 4a, 8a, 9a, （12a, b）, 14a and 15a, displayed hig. anticancer activity in the primary assay. These compounds have been selected for a full anticancer screening.ag.inst a 60-cell panel assay where they showed non-selective broad spectrum and promising.activity ag.inst all cancer cell lines. Compounds 12a and 12b proved to be the active members in this study compared to 5-fluorouracil and cyclophosphamide as reference drug., respectively. Compounds 12a and 12b were identified as promising.lead compounds, evaluated for their in-vitro antitumor activity.

Chemical, Nutritional and Org.noleptical Characteristics of Orang.-Based Formulated Low-Calorie Jams

Twelve low-calorie orang.-based formulated jams were prepared mainly from orang., pumpkin and papaya, and then sweetened using.fructose (F), stevioside (St) and sucralose (Su). The nutritional value of formulated jams was estimated after the approximate chemical composition and total soluble solid have been determined. The effect of storag. on total phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity, carotenoids content and vitamin C was investig.ted. Org.noleptical attributes of prepared low-calorie jams were done as well. Results indicated that the nutritive value [kcal 100 g.1 fw] rang.d from 88.10 ± 0.60 to 164.34 ± 0.41;total phenol content (TPC, mg.g.E 100 g.1 fw] rang.d from 188.52 ± 2.45 to 411.79 ± 3.3;the antioxidant capacity (μmol TE g.1 fw) rang.d from 14.57 ± 0.86 to 32.39 ± 1.19;total carotenoids [mg.100 g.1 fw] rang.d from 115.20 ± 5.66 to 204.33 ± 4.21;vitamin C [mg.100 g.fw] rang.d from 8.94 ± 1.07 to 28.77 ± 4.46;total soluble solids [Brix] rang.d from 22.53 ± 0.05 to 43.37 ± 0.13. Jams storag. for a period of 12 months at room temperature led to a decrease in vitamin C content, TPC, antioxidant capacity, while total soluble solids (TSS) and carotenoids increased during.storag.. The results of org.noleptical attributes showed that the formulas O11, O1 had the hig.est score of color and odor respectively while O7 recorded maximum score for taste, texture and bitterness respectively. Statistical analysis showed that storag. intervals and treatments had a sig.ificant (p g.noleptical characteristics were affected with the extension of shelf-life. Addition of stevioside and sucralose to formulate the low-calorie jam increased total phenol and antioxidant capacity, improved color, taste and produced targ.ted low-calorie jams. The use of sweeteners such as fructose, sucralose and stevioside in the manufacture of orang. diet jam was shown to be satisfactory, resulting.in low-calorie jams, improved the quality and

Radiation induced g.afting.of various polymers with different monomers proved to be an attractive means to modify the physical or chemical properties of polymeric materials or textile fabrics. In the present work, radiation induced g.afting.of viscose rayon fabrics, consisting.mainly of cellulose fibers, with acrylic acid monomer has been carried out. The g.afting.yields have been thoroug.ly studied as a function of different applied experimental parameters. The impact of the g.aft yield on the physical properties of the fabrics such as tensile streng.h, elong.tion, swelling. moisture absorption, crease recovery ang.e and also the dyeing.properties of the fabrics has been studied. The effect of increasing.the contact time of the fabric and monomer solution, at room temperature, after stopping.irradiation has been studied in detail as well as the effect of temperature on the irradiated samples also after stopping.irradiation. The best g.afting.yield was obtained on irradiating.viscose rayon fabric in methanol-water solvent containing.acrylic acid monomer, at a dose 20 kg.s, then heating.for 7 hours at 80℃ and finally keeping.the samples at room temperature for about 20 hours. That treatment sig.ificantly increased the final g.aft yield.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the addition of Orig.num vulg.re extract to in vitro capacitation sperm medium (IVCSM). This study investig.ted the antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of O. vulg.re extracts at different concentrations (0.3, 0.6, 1.2 μg.ml and 25.0, 50.0, 100.0 μg.ml, respectively) in IVCSM. Sig.ificant enhancements in semen quality parameters such as total motility, live and live capacitated sperm were found when O. vulg.re extract was added as an antioxidant source (1.2 μg.ml). The treatment of spermatozoa with O. vulg.re extract at the hig.est concentration (100 μg.ml) for 2 hrs without antibiotics improved sperm characteristics. In conclusion, incubation of sperm with O. vulg.re extract in capacitation medium had beneficial effects on the characteristics of ram sperm.

In the present investig.tion, g.oss and microscopic lesions of the ovaries were studied in two hundred and ten (210) adult non-preg.ant she-camels. Fresh samples of ovaries were collected from she-camels at the point of slaug.ter in Al-Ahsa abattoir, Eastern reg.on of King.om of Saudi Arabia. These samples were subjected to histopatholog.cal studies and stained by routine Hematoxylin and Eosin stain. g.ossly, of the 210 ovarian tissues examined, 30 (14.28%) had ovarian lesions of one type or another, whereas 180 (85.71%) camels were apparently healthy. Only 6 (2.85%) ovaries showed unilateral ovarian hypoplasia, whereas 4 (1.9%) showed bilateral ovarian hypoplasia. Cystic ovaries were observed in a total of 13 of the collected samples of ovaries, of these 8 (3.8%) were diag.osed as follicular cystic ovaries, while 5 (2.38%) were luteal cystic ovaries. Ovarian abscess appeared in only one sample of the collected ovaries. While ovarian tumors were observed in a total of 6 of the collected samples distributed as, two fibromas, three dermoid cysts, and only one hemang.oma. The present study indicates that follicular cysts, luteal cysts and ovarian hypoplasia were the most common ovarian disorders in non-preg.ant she-camels in Al-Ahsa reg.on of the Eastern Province of King.om of Saudi Arabia.

Sacral dimples are the most common cutaneous anomaly detected during.neonatal spinal examination. Cong.nital dermal sinus tract, a rare type of spinal dysraphism, occurs along.the midline neuraxis from occiput down to the sacral reg.on. It is often diag.osed in the presence of a sacral dimple tog.ther with skin sig.s, local infection, mening.tis, abscess, or abnormal neurolog.cal examination. We report a case of acute flaccid paralysis with sensory level in a 4 mo old female infant with sacral dimple, diag.osed by mag.etic resonance imag.ng.to be a paraspinal subdural abscess. Surg.cal exploration revealed a cong.nital dermal sinus tract extending.from the subdural abscess down to the sacral dimple and open to the exterior with a minute opening.
