The cultivated strawberry(Fragaria×ananassa)is an allo-octoploid species,originating nearly 300 years ago from wild progenitors from the *** that time the strawberry has become the most widely cultivated fruit crop in the world,universally appealing due to its sensory qualities and health *** recent publication of the first highquality chromosome-scale octoploid strawberry genome(***)is enabling rapid advances in genetics,stimulating scientific debate and provoking new research *** this forward-looking review we propose avenues of research toward new biological insights and applications to *** these are the origins of the genome,characterization of genetic variants,and big data approaches to *** areas of research in molecular biology will include the control of flowering,fruit development,fruit quality,and plant–pathogen *** order to realize this potential as a global community,investments in genome resources must be continually augmented.

Emerging structures and dynamic mechanisms ofγ-secretase for Alzheimer’s disease

NECAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal EF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NECAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one EF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized C-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NECAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NECAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NECAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NECAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NECAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NECAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NECAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NECAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NECAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the EF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. There is growing evidence that interleukin(IL)-6 plays an important role in neurological and psychiatric *** editorial comments on the study published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Psychiatry,which employed Mendelian randomization to identify a causal relationship between IL-6 receptor blockade and decreased epilepsy *** purpose of this editorial is to highlight the dual effects of IL-6 in epilepsy and its related neuropsychiatric ***-6 plays a critical role in the facilitation of epileptogenesis and maintenance of epileptic seizures and is implicated in neuroinflammatory proce-sses associated with ***,IL-6 significantly influences mood regulation and cognitive dysfunction in patients with epilepsy,highlighting its involvement in neuropsychiatric *** summary,IL-6 is not only a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of epilepsy but also significantly contributes to the emergence of epilepsy-related neuropsychiatric *** resear-ch should prioritize elucidating the specific mechanisms by which IL-6 operates across different subtypes,stages and neuropsychiatric comorbidities of epilepsy,with the aim of developing more precise and effective ***,the potential of IL-6 as a biomarker for the early diagnosis and prognosis of epile-psy warrants further investigation.

Opportunistic maintenance for multi-component systems considering structural dependence and economic dependence

Although opportunistic maintenance strategies are widely used for multi-component systems, all opportunistic mainte- nance strategies only consider economic dependence and do not take structural dependence into account. An opportunistic main- tenance strategy is presented for a multi-component system that considers both structural dependence and economic dependence. The cost relation and time relation among components based on structural dependence are developed. The maintenance strategy for each component of a multi-component system involves one of five maintenance actions, namely, no-maintenance, a minimal maintenance action, an imperfect maintenance action, a perfect maintenance action, and a replacement action. The maintenance action is determined by the virtual age of the component, the life expectancy of the component, and the age threshold values. Monte Carlo simulation is designed to obtain the optimal oppor- tunistic maintenance strategy of the system over its lifetime. The simulation result reveals that the minimum maintenance cost with a strategy that considers structural dependence is less than that with a strategy that does not consider structural dependence. The availability with a strategy that considers structural dependence is greater than that with a strategy that does not consider structural dependence under the same conditions.
