Amine functionalization on thermal and mechanical behaviors of graphite nanofibers-loaded epoxy composites

With the growing demand for faster and more powerful computing,effective heat dissipation is essential to ensure the longevity,reliability,and high performance of electronic *** the field of modern electronic packaging materials,there is a great need for graphitic material-loaded polymeric composites(GPCs)with excellent thermal ***,the enhancement efficiency of GPCs is hindered by the agglomeration of fillers and the interfacial thermal resistance caused by the lack of continuous thermally conductive pathways between the filler and *** the interfaces between filler and matrix is of great importance in optimizing the performances of ***,we fabricated graphite nanofibers(GNF)-loaded nanocomposites using acid-functionalized GNF(AGNF)and acidtetraethylenepentamine-functionalized(TGNF)as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix with different GNF loading contents to explore the interfacial properties of the *** optimal GNF loading for AGNF was 0.5 wt.%,while the TGNF showed 0.75 wt.%.The highest thermal conductivity(0.51 W m^(−1) k^(−1))and fracture toughness(25.8 MPa m^(1/2))values were found in the TGNF-loaded nanocomposites with a fraction of 0.75 wt.%,representing enhancements of∼145%and∼400%,respectively,compared to those of neat *** experimental data presented herein demonstrate that the interfacial properties play a significant role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical performances of the *** present approach is expected to serve as a valuable tool in the design of conductive polymeric nanocomposites for further practical applications,such as thermal interface materials and packaging of high-power electric devices.

A G^E/Equation of State Mixing Rule for Vapor-Liquid Equilibria

A new excess Gibbs free energy/equation of state type mixing 0rule was derived byremoving the infinite pressure boundary condition imposed by Wong and *** mixing rulewas extensively tested in terms of a comprehensive data base,consisting of 52 simple nonpolar-nonpolar,carbon dioxide containing,hydrocarbon-hydrocarbon,CFC,polar-polar,nonpolar-polarbinary and multicomponent *** on the complete predictive capability,a comparisonbetween the Wong-Sandler and the mixing rule proposed was *** results indicate that thenew mixing rule is in general superior to the Wong-Sandler’s,and the binary interaction parameteras required by the latter is removed,which reduces computing effort and is reliable in predictions ofvapor-liquid equilibria from low pressures to high pressures.

Influence of CaO on damping capacity and mechanical properties of Mg alloy

For developing cost effective damping Mg alloys with high damping capacity and better mechanical properties, the microstructures, the mechanical properties at room temperature and the damping capacity of Mg alloy adding CaO were investigated and compared with those of k1A alloy. CaO adding into pure Mg maintains the damping capacity and increases the ultimate tensile strength compared with those of pure Mg. Mg-CaO alloy can be regarded as cost-effective damping alloy with high damping and mechanical properties as well as with the advantages of improving oxidation and burning resistances.

Microstructural Characteristics of Underwater Shock Consolidated Aluminum Composites

Metal matrix composites (MMCs) offer extra strength and high temperature capabilities in comparison with unrein-forced metals. Aluminum composites possess higher stiffness, strength, fatigue properties and low weight advantages. Carbon fiber reinforced Al composites (Al-Cf) and silicon carbide particulate reinforced Al composites (AI-SiCp) were shock densified using axisymmetric assemblies for underwater explosions. Unidirectional planar shock waves were applied to obtain uniform consolidation of the composites. The energy generator was a high explosive of 6.9 km/s detonation velocity. Irregular morphological powders of Al were the base material. The reinforcement ratio was 15 Vol. pet for Al-Cf composites and 30 Vol. pet for AI-SiCp composites. The microstructural and the strength characteristics of the shock consolidated Al composites are reported.

Novel metastable Bi:Co and Bi:Fe alloys nanodots@carbon as anodes for high rate k-ion batteries

Bi is a promising anode material for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs)due to its high theoretical ***,severe pulverization upon cycling limits its practical *** this work,we propose a new approach of using metastable alloys with Bi *** Bi:Co and Bi:Fe alloys nanodots@carbon anode materials(Bi:Co and Bi:Fe@C)are synthesized for the first time via simple annealing of their metal-organic frameworks(MOF)*** prepared materials are demonstrated as ideal hosts for high-rate k-ion ***_(0.85)Co_(0.15)@C and Bi_(0.83)Fe_(0.17)@C electrodes respectively deliver superior 178 and 253 mAh·g^(−1)at 20 A·g^(−1),as well as stable cycling performance at 2 A·g^(−1).Ex situ scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)studies on Bi:Co@C indicate that the elemental Co separates out during the initial potassiation and stands during the following discharge/charge *** situ formed Co precipitates can act as(1)“conductive binders”as well as(2)“separators”to prevent the severe aggregation of adjacent active elemental Bi nanoparticles and(3)accelerate the potassiation/de-potassiation kinetics in elemental Bi precipitates after initial discharge/charge *** work could inspire the development of metal-type anodes.

Diurnal and spatial variations of soil NO_x fluxes in the northern steppe of China

NOx emissions from biogenic sources in soils play a significant role in the gaseous loss of soil nitrogen and consequent changes in tropospheric chemistry. In order to investigate the characteristics of NOx fluxes and factors influencing these fluxes in degraded sandy grasslands in northern China, diurnal and spatial variations of NOx fluxes were measured in situ. A dynamic flux chamber method was used at eight sites with various vegetation coverages and soil types in the northern steppe of China in the summer season of *** of NOx from soils with plant covers were generally higher than those in the corresponding bare vegetation-free soils, indicating that the canopy plays an important role in the exchange of NOx between soil and air. The fluxes of NOx increased in the daytime,and decreased during the nighttime, with peak emissions occurring between 12：00 and14：00. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that the diurnal variation of NOx fluxes was positively correlated with soil temperature（P 〈 0.05） and negatively with soil moisture content（P 〈 0.05）. Based on measurement over a season, the overall variation in NOx flux was lower than that of soil nitrogen contents, suggesting that the gaseous loss of N from the grasslands of northern China was not a significant contributor to the high C/N in the northern steppe of China. The concentration of NOx emitted from soils in the region did not exceed the 1-hr National Ambient Air Quality Standard（0.25 mg/m^3）.

Product data management (PDM) has been accepted as an important tool for the manufacturing industries. In recent years, more and mor e researches have been conducted in the development of PDM. Their research area s include system design, integration of object-oriented technology, data distri bution, collaborative and distributed manufacturing working environment, secur ity, and web-based integration. However, there are limitations on their rese arches. In particular, they cannot cater for PDM in distributed manufacturing e nvironment. This is especially true in South China, where many Hong kong (Hk) ma nufacturers have moved their production plants to different locations in Pearl R iver Delta for cost reduction. However, they retain their main offices in Hk. Development of PDM system is inherently complex. Product related data cover prod uct name, product part number (product identification), drawings, material speci fications, dimension requirement, quality specification, test result, log size, production schedules, product data version and date of release, special tooling (e.g. jig and fixture), mould design, project engineering in charge, cost spread sheets, while process data includes engineering release, engineering change info rmation management, and other workflow related to the process information. Accor ding to Cornelissen et al., the contemporary PDM system should contains manageme nt functions in structure, retrieval, release, change, and workflow. In system design, development and implementation, a formal specification is nece ssary. However, there is no formal representation model for PDM system. Theref ore a graphical representation model is constructed to express the various scena rios of interactions between users and the PDM system. Effect of Injection Velocity on Structure Part Characteristic in AZ50 Die Casting Process with High Vacuum System

When diecasting large and thin Mg alloy parts,material defects occur,which include porosity,nonuniform mechanical properties,irregular surfaces,and incomplete *** resolve these problems,it is necessary to have uniform injection velocities and temperatures as well as control the *** study investigated the feasibility of producing large and thin components using a die caster by attaching a high vacuum *** particular,the effects of injection velocity on surface quality and the mechanical properties of the products were ***,an injection velocity scheme and a die structure capable of casting in a vacuum were *** a result,it was found that the critical low injection velocity was 0.2 m/s to produce large thin Mg alloy structures having good mechanical properties.
