Fabrication and comprehensive evaluation of Zr-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites for biomedical applications

The aim of this study is to fabricate Zr-based bulk metallic glass matrix composites(BMG-MCs)for biomedical usage and subject them to a comprehensive and farreaching analysis with respect to their mechanical properties,biocorrosion resistance,biocompatibility,and interactions with biofilms that all may arise from their chemical compositions and unusual disordered internal *** this study,we fabricate Zr_(40)Ti_(15)Cu_(10)Ni_(10)Be_(25),Zr_(50)Ti_(15)Cu_(10)Ni_(10)Be_(25),and Zr40Ti15Cu10Ni5Si5Be25 alloys and confirm their glassy matrix nature through differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)*** mechanical properties,assessed via nanoindentation,demonstrate the high hardness,strength,and elasticity of the produced *** resistance is investigated in simulated body fluid,with Zr-based BMG-MCs exhibiting superior performance compared to conventional biomedical materials,including 316L stainless steel and Ti6Al4V *** is assessed using human fetal osteoblastic cell line hFOB 1.19,revealing low levels of *** study also examines the potential for biofilm formation,a critical factor in the success of biomedical implantation,where bacterial infection is a major *** findings suggest,as never reported before,that Zr-based BMG-MCs,with their unique composite glassy structure and excellent physicochemical properties,are promising candidates for various biomedical applications,potentially offering improved performance over traditional metallic biomaterials.

Western Tethyan Epeiric Ramp Setting in the Early Triassic： An Example from the Central Dinarides (Croatia)

In the central part of the External Dinarides in Plavno, Croatia, near Knin, a remarkably thick （927.5 m） Early Triassic depositional sequence was investigated. The Plavno sequence starts in the EarlyGriesbachian and ends with a continuous transition into the Anisian strata. A complete 13C isotope curve has been achieved and combined with conodonts, bivalves and ammonoids to establish and correlate stage and substage boundaries. The 613C curve is consistent with former studies. It displays a general increase from the Griesbachian to a prominent maximum beyond the ＋8%0 amplitude around the Dienerian-Smithian boundary （DSB）, followed by a steep and continuous decline to low, negative values in the Smithian. Around the Smithian-Spathian boundary （SSB） a steep rise to a second maximum occurred. It is followed by a saw-tooth shaped decline in the Spathian and a similar increase to a peak at the Spathian-Anisian boundary （SAB）. Sedimentologically, the Plavno sequence is interpreted as having been deposited on an extensive epeiric ramp under long-term transgressive conditions, sharing depositional characteristics of both the epeiric platform and the carbonate ramp. The entire Plavno sequence was deposited above the storm-wave base and was storm influenced. Three informal members are differentiated： 1） the dolostone member （Early Griesbachian）; 2） the silicielastic member （red-coloured shale, siltstone, sandstone with oolitic/bioclastie grainstone intercalations）, which can be further divided into lower, middle and upper intervals （Late Griesbachian, Dienerian and Smithian）; and 3） the mudstone member （grey lime mudstones, marls and calcisiltites with common ammonoids and gastropods- Spathian）. The Plavno sequence is compared with other western Tethyan sections. Observed differences stem from local controls on deposition in the overall shallow marine environment.

Numerical modeling of blast-induced rock fragmentation in deep mining with 3D and 2D FEM method approaches

Estimation of tensile strength of ductile iron friction welded joints using hybrid intelligent methods

A hybrid intelligent method for evaluation of near optimal settings of friction welding process parameters of ductile iron was presented, The optimization of welding parameters was carried out in automatic cycle with the use of support vector regression （SVR）, genetic algorithm （GA） and imperialist competitive algorithm （ICA）. The method suggested was used to determine welding process parameters by which the desired tensile strength was obtained in the friction welding of ductile iron. The highest tensile strength （TS） of 256.93 MPa was obtained using SVR plus GA method for the following friction welding parameters： heating force 40 kN, heating time 300 s and upsetting force 10.12 kN. The samples were welded by friction and subjected to the tensile strength test. The optimized values obtained by means of these hybrid techniques were compared with the experimental results. The application of hybrid intelligent methods allowed to increase the tensile strength joints from 211 to 258 MPa for the friction welder ZT-14 type.
