Climatic and anthropogenic impacts on the decrease of sediment discharge to the Mediterranean coast from the largest river of Maghreb

The current study focuses on the issue of the decrease in sediment discharge to the Mediterranean Sea by the largest river in Algeria, the w.di Cheliff(i.e. Cheliff river). This study clarifies the effect of climatic and anthropogenic factors on the changes in the sedimentary dynamics of the Cheliff river discharging to the sea. The data used(rainfall, w.ter discharge, and sediment discharge) concern the Sidi Bel Attar gaging station on the Cheliff river, only 18 km from discharge to the Mediterranean Sea. A pow.r-type statistical regression model w.s used to fill the 74.2% gap in Suspended Solids(SS) measurements in the establishment of a SS database for the period 1951 e2012. The study results show.that the transport of suspended sediment discharged to the sea is about 487 t/km2/yr. Statistical tests of breaks highlight that rainfall decreased by 26% and that w.ter and sediment input to the sea declined from 74% to 63% for the period of 1981 e2012. The correlation analysis show. a decrease in the contribution of rainfall on sediment and w.ter input at the outlet equal to 77.9% and 77.8%, respectively, during the period of 1980 e2012, compared to the period of 1968 e1980. How.ver, the double mass method reflects the contribution of factors other than rainfall to the decrease of sediment input to the sea. These other factors mainly include large dams, w.ich intercepted about 71% of the total volume of sediment discharged to the sea during the period of 1968 e2010. In addition the contribution of large dams to the reduction of sedimentary input to the sea is more important than that of the decrease in rainfall. The management of large dams also contributes to the increase in the sediment deficit to the sea through the prioritization of interception of sediment at the expense of releases, for socio-economic purposes, 68.4% of the Cheliff river discharge is diverted for human use. This research focuses on the effective removal of methylene blue dye using silica gel synthesized from chemical glass bottle w.ste as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective *** adsorption process w.s optimized using Box-Behnken Design(BBD)and response Surface Methodology(rSM)to investigate the influence of pH(6;8 and 10),contact time(15;30 and 45 min),adsorbent mass(30;50 and 70 mg),and initial concentration(20;50 and 80 mg/L)of the adsorbate on the adsorption *** BBD w.s conducted using Google Colaboratory softw.re,w.ich encompassed 27 experiments w.th randomly assigned *** silica gel synthesized from chemical glass bottle w.s characterized by XrD,FTIr,SEM-EDX and *** adsorption result w.s measured by spectrophotometer *** optimized conditions resulted in a remarkable methylene blue removal efficiency of 99.41%.Characterization of the silica gel demonstrated amorphous morphology and prominent absorption bands characteristic of *** Langmuir isotherm model best described the adsorption behavior,revealing chemisorption w.th a monolayer coverage of methylene blue on the adsorbent surface,and a maximum adsorption capacity of 82.02 mg/***,the pseudo-second-order kinetics model indicated a chemisorption mechanism during the adsorption *** findings highlight the potential of silica gel from chemical glass bottle w.ste as a promising adsorbent for w.stew.ter treatment,offering economic and environmental *** investigations can explore its scalability,regenerability,and reusability for industrial-scale applications.

BACKGrOUND The critical shoulder angle(CSA)is a radiographic measurement that provides an assessment of both glenoid inclination and acromial *** values may correlate w.th the presence of rotator cuff ***,it is difficult to obtain a high-quality true anteroposterior(AP)radiograph of the shoulder,w.th any excess scapular version or flexion/extension resulting in deviation from the true CSA ***-dimensional(3D)bony reconstructions of computed tomography(CT)shoulder scans may be able to be rotated to obtain a similar view.to that of true AP *** To compare CSA measurements performed on 3D bony CT reconstructions,w.th those on corresponding true AP *** CT shoulder scans w.re matched w.th true AP radiographs that w.re classified as either Suter-Henninger type A or C quality.3D bony reconstructions w.re segmented from the CT scans,and rotated to replicate an ideal true AP *** observers performed CSA measurements using both CT and radiographic *** w.re repeated after a one w.ek *** w.s assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs)and Bland-Altman plots[bias,limits of agreement(LOA)].rESULTS Tw.nty CT shoulder scans w.re *** mean CSA values w.re 32.55°(±4.26°)w.th radiographs and 29.82°(±3.49°)w.th the CT-based method[mean difference 2.73°(±2.86°);Pre w.s a strong correlation betw.en the tw. methods(r=0.748;Pra-observer reliability w.s similar,but the best intra-observer values w.re achieved by the most experienced observer using the CT-based method[ICC:0.983(0.958-0.993);bias+0.03°,LOA-1.28°to+1.34°].Inter-observer reliability w.s better w.th the CT-based method[ICC:0.897(0.758-0.958),bias+0.24°,LOA-2.93°to+3.41°].CONCLUSION The described CT-based method may be a suitable alternative for critical shoulder angle measurement,as it overcomes the difficulty in obtaining a true AP radiographic view.
