Objective: Pittosporum angustifolium Lodd. is used to treat a variety of pathogenic diseases and inflamma-tion by Australian aborigines. Practitioners of complementary medicine frequently use herbal medicines concurrently with conventional antibiotics. There is a need to evaluate their effects in combination. Methods: The bacterial growth inhibitory activity of P. angustifolium leaf extracts was assessed against a panel of pathogenic triggers of some autoimmune diseases by standard disc diffusion and liquid dilution minimum inhibitory concentration (mic) methods. Combinational effects between the extracts and con-ventional antimicrobials were classified using the sum of the fractional inhibitory concentration. Synergistic interactions were further assessed across a range of ratios by isobologram analysis. The tox-icity of the individual samples and combinations was evaluated by Anemia lethality and 3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium) human dermal fibroblast cell viability assays. Results: P. angustifolium leaf extracts strongly inhibited the growth of several bacterial triggers of autoim-mune diseases. The methanolic, aqueous and ethyl acetate extracts were pwrticularly good inhibitors of Proteus mirabilis and Klebsiella pneumonia growth (mic=26 and 57 ng/mL respectively). Some combinations of the extracts and conventional antibiotics signiflcantlv potentiated the combined inhibitory activity compared to the individual components. Of the 250 combinations studied, approximately 0.02% showed synergistic interactions, 49.6% were additive, 46.8% showed indifferent interactions and antago-nism occurred in only 0.02% of the combinations. Interestingly, all of the synergistic and antagonistic combinations contained tetracycline as their antibiotic component. Conclusion: P. angustifolium leaf extracts inhibit the growth of pathogenic triggers of some autoimmune diseases. Some extracts also potentiated the activity of co

Building on the pioneering work of Jean-Marie André and working in the laboratory he founded, the authors have developed a code called FT-1D to make Hartree-Fock electronic structure computations for stereoregular polymers using ewald-type convergence acceleration methods. That code also takes full advantage of all line-group symmetries to calculate only the minimal set of two-electron integrals and to optimize the computation of the Fock matrix. The present communication reports a benchmark study of the FT-1D code using polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFe) as a test case. Our results not only confirm the algorithmic correctness of the code through agreement with other studies where they are applicable, but also show that the use of convergence acceleration enables accurate results to be obtained in situations where other widely-used codes(e.g., PLH and Crystal) fail. It is also found that full attention to the line-group symmetry of the PTFe polymer leads to an increase of between one and two orders of magnitude in the speed of computation. The new code can therefore be viewed as extending the range of electronic-structure computations for stereoregular polymers beyond the present scope of the successful and valuable code Crystal.

The Salvadora persica(***)*** stick,usually known as miswak,is still being em-ployed as an oral hygiene agent for plaque and gingivitis *** study aims to assess the antibacterial,antibiofilm,antioxidant,and phytochemical profile of *** *** ***-sica was purchased from a local market,grinded and extracted with petroleum *** disk dif-fusion,microdilution,and micro-plate assays were performed to evaluate the antibacterial and an-tibiofilm activities of the prepared extract at different concentrations against𝛽-lactam resistance Streptococcus *** radical scavenging 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and stable radical cationic chromophore,2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate)(ABTS)methods were used to determine their antioxidant *** and spectrometric analyses were performed using gas chromatography-mass(GC-MS)*** minimum inhibitory concentration(mic)of *** extract against𝛽-lactam resistance Streptococcus species ranged from 6.25 to 12.5 mg/*** maximum suppression of biofilm formation by *** extract was observed at mic with a percentage of 68.66%,against Streptococcus *** *** ex-tract exhibited antioxidant activity with IC 50 of 20μg/mL and 35μg/mL from DPPH and ABTS,*** phytochemical characterization showed the presence of 22 compounds with ma-jor compounds;benzyl isothiocyanate(36.21%)and n-hexadecanoic acid(27.62%).The *** extract exhibited antibacterial activity against𝛽-lactam resistant Streptococcus species,showing a promising natural alternative that could be a treatment option.

Post-labelling of 3’ terminus of RNA with 22p is a new method for sequencing RNA developed in the past two years. We designed and synthesized a novel radioactive earbonyl reagent: 125Ⅰ-labelled N-acetyl-3, 5-diiodotyrosyl hydrazide (125Ⅰ-NADITH). It has been successfully used to label four different nucleoside dialdehydes and oxidized tRNA at its 3’ terminus. The advantages of (125Ⅰ over 32P are （ⅰ） much more sensitive and （ⅱ） a longer half-life. The procedures for the synthesis of 125Ⅰ-NADITH are as follows:
