The palladium-catalyzed late-stage aroylation of 4-methyl-1,5-diaryl-lH-pyrazole-3-carboxylates has been developed via direct and exclusive mono-Csp^2-H bond activation with broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. A dual-core dimeric palladacycle is confirmed by X-ray single crystal crystallography, and probably serves as an active species in the catalytic cycle.

Gaseous compounds are usually on-line detectable on sensors. The limitations of conventional sensors are suffering from incapability for exactly identifying multiple components as well as incompatibility to possible toxicants in every odor sample. Herein, we discuss an inlet modification to the laboratory standard mass spectrometer, inspired by the sensitive olfactory systems of animals, for direct sniffing,established by connecting a mini pump to the nebulizer gas tubing. The modified mass spectrometry method—sniffing-mass spectrometry(sniffing-MS)—can acquire detailed fingerprint spectra of mixed odors and shows high tolerance to toxicants. Furthermore, the method has a low limit of detection in the order of parts per trillion and is a ‘sampling-free' technique for analyzing various gaseous compounds simultaneously, thus offering versatility for smelling daily commodities, tracking diffusion, and locating position of odors. Sniffing-MS can mimic or even surpass the olfaction of animals and is applicable for analyzing gaseous/volatile compounds, especially those polar compounds, in a simple manner depending on the intrinsic molecular mass-to-charge ratio.

Objective:To summarize the first aid and nursing of the operating room due to serious complications caused by postpartum massive bleeding.Methods:One case of emergency hemorrhage was ineffective in emergency hysterectomy.Results:The uterus was successfully removed and the bleeding was successfully stopped.It was transferred to the ICU under general anesthesia.Conclusion:For pregnant women with postpartum massive bleeding and hemorrhagic shock and diffuse intravascular coagulation(DIC),targeted surgical treatment and complete operating room emergency care are of great significance to save maternal lives.

BACKGROUND Treatment of postoperative anastomotic stenosis for colorectal cancer is often challenging,especially for patients who do not respond well to endoscopy.In cases where patients have undergone an enterostomy,the stenosis can be easily resolved through magnetic compression.However,common magnetic compre-ssion techniques cannot be performed on those without enterostomy.We design-ed a novel Y–Z deformable magnetic ring(Y–Z DMR)and successfully applied it to a patient with a stenosis rectal anastomosis and without enterostomy after rectal cancer surgery.CASE SUMMARY We here report the case of a 57-year-old woman who had undergone a laparo-scopic radical rectum resection(Dixon)for rectal cancer.However,she started facing difficulty in defecation 6 months after surgery.Her colonoscopy indicated stenosis of the rectal anastomosis.Endoscopic balloon dilation was performed six times on her.However,the stenosis still showed a trend of gradual aggravation.Because the patient did not undergo an enterostomy,the conventional endoscopic magnetic compression technique could not be performed.Hence,we imple-mented a Y–Z DMR implemented through the anus under single channel.The magnetic ring fell off nine days after the operation and the rectal stenosis was relieved.The patient was followed up for six months and reported good defeca-tion.CONCLUSION The Y–Z DMR deformable magnetic ring is an excellent treatment strategy for patients with rectal stenosis and without enterostomy.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Microchannel Heat Sink with Highly-Dense Micro-Jet Arrays

This paper proposed a new structure of highly-dense micro-jet arrays for hybrid jet-impingement/microchannel heat sinks(~120 jet per cm^(2) with jet width of 0.35 mm).Parametric study is performed to investigate the influence of structure and flow parameters on the convective heat transfer of water jet cooling in confined space.The simulation results show that the optimal jet width,jet spacing and impingement distance are around 0.2 mm,0.2 mm and 0.3 mm,respectively,which can achieve a low thermal resistance as well as a relatively low pressure drop.The analysis of the heat transfer pathways shows that the micro-fin jet structures can extend the impinging heat transfer area and conduct a considerable proportion of heat,which can reach up to 38.9%with the Reynolds number ranging from 797.1 to 5602.2.The heat transfer characteristics in the heat sink will shift from impingement dominated heat transfer to the channel-convection dominated heat transfer as the jet impingement distance increases.A correlation is proposed to predict the average Nusselt number on the stagnation area for the heat sink with different structure parameters,and the deviations of predictions from the numerical results are less than 10%.

From ore to MOF: A case of MIL-100(Fe) production from iron ore concentrates

Within this work, iron ore concentrates instead of elemental iron Fe0and iron salts like Fe（NO3）3and FeCl3were selected as iron source to prepare MIL-100（Fe）(labeled as MIL-100（Fe）-ore). The corresponding synthesis cost is reduced to half of the MIL-100（Fe） produced from elemental iron and iron salts. As well, the unreacted iron ore concentrates can be easily separated from the as-prepared MIL-100（Fe）-ore by magnetic to facilitate the purification process, free of the strong acids to wash the residual iron. The as-obtained MIL-100（Fe）-ore with Langmuir surface area up to 2281.6 m2g-1displayed long-term chemical stability. Furthermore, the sorption capacity of MIL-100（Fe）-ore towards malachite green（MG） is up to 522.3 mg g-1at 25℃ and initial pH = 3.2, higher than that of MIL-100（Fe） yielded by conventional hydrothermal process. Finally, the production cost and life cycle assessment of MIL-100（Fe）-ore were compared with other traditional production procedures. The results revealed that our work greatly reduced the synthesis cost and enhanced the environmental sustainability.

Meiotic recombination is essential for sexual reproduction and its regulation has been extensively studied in many taxa.However,genome-wide recombination landscape has not been reported in ciliates and it remains unknown how it is affected by the unique features of ciliates:the synaptonemal complex(SC)-independent meiosis and the nuclear dimorphism.Here,we show the recombination landscape in the model ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila by analyzing single-nucleotide polymorphism datasets from 38 hybrid progeny.We detect 1021 crossover(CO)events(35.8 per meiosis),corresponding to an overall CO rate of 9.9 cM/Mb.However,gene conversion by non-crossover is rare(1.03 per meiosis)and not biased towards G or C alleles.Consistent with the reported roles of SC in CO interference,we find no obvious sign of CO interference.CO tends to occur within germ-soma common genomic regions and many of the 44 identified CO hotspots localize at the centromeric or subtelomeric regions.Gene ontology analyses show that CO hotspots are strongly associated with genes responding to environmental changes.We discuss these results with respect to how nuclear dimorphism has potentially driven the formation of the observed recombination landscape to facilitate environmental adaptation and the sharing of machinery among meiotic and somatic recombination.

According to the World Health Organization’s world report on hearing,nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide will suffer from hearing loss by 2050,which may contribute to a severe impact on individual life quality and national economies.Sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL)occurs commonly as a result of noise exposure,aging,and ototoxic drugs,and is pathologically characterized by the impairment of mechanosensory hair cells of the inner ear,which is mainly triggered by reactive oxygen species accumulation,inflammation,and mitochondrial dysfunction.Though recent advances have been made in understanding the ability of cochlear repair and regeneration,there are still no effective therapeutic drugs for SNHL.Chinese herbal medicine which is widely distributed and easily accessible in China has demonstrated a unique curative effect against SNHL with higher safety and lower cost compared with Western medicine.Herein we present trends in research for Chinese herbal medicine for the treatment of SNHL,and elucidate their molecular mechanisms of action,to pave the way for further research and development of novel effective drugs in this field.

Nanorubber/epoxy composites containing 0,2,6 and 10 wt%nanorubber are subjected to uniaxial compression over a wide range of strain rate from 8×10^(-4) s^(-1) to~2×10^(4) s^(-1).Unexpectedly,their strain rate sensitivity and strain hardening index increase with increasing nanorubber content.Potential mechanisms are proposed based on numerical simulations using a unit cell model.An increase in the strain rate sensitivity with increasing nanorubber content results from the fact that the nanorubber becomes less incompressible at high strain,generating a higher hydro-static pressure.Adiabatic shear localization starts to occur in the epoxy under a strain rate of 22,000 s^(-1) when the strain exceeds 0.35.The presence of nanorubber in the epoxy reduces adiabatic shear localization by preventing it from propagating.
