Development and Application of a Validated UHPLC Method for the Determination of Atropine and Its Major Impurities in Antidote Treatment Nerve Agent Auto-Injectors (ATNAA) Stored in the Strategic National Stockpiles

The development and implementation of advanced analytical technologies is essential for extending the expiry for complex drug products stored in the Strategic National Stockpiles. Consequently, a novel Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic (UHPLC) method has been developed for the analysis of atropine and its respective impurities to support the analytical research platform for auto-injectors. This study is part of a larger research effort to improve the efficiency and broaden the applicability of advanced analytical methods for medical counter-measure medications. The current HPLC compendial methodology for atropine sulfate injection requires an analysis time of 40 minutes for atropine. In comparison, the novel gradient UHPLC method required only 8 minutes to evaluate both atropine and its major pharmaceutical impurities. Improved separation was achieved on a Waters Acquity UHPLC BEH C18 1.7 μm, 2.1 × 100 mm column employing gradient elution of mobile phase solvent A (0.1% H3PO4) and solvent B (0.1% H3PO4, 90% ACN, and 10% H2O). The method was validated according to USP Category I requirements for assay. The daily standard calibration curves were linear over a concentration range from 50 μg/mL to 250 μg/mL with a correlation coefficient of >0.999. The detection limit (LOD) and quantitation limit (LOQ) were 3.9 μg/ml and 13.1 μg/ml, respectively. Resolution results indicate that atropine and the following impurities, degradants and a preservative can also be separated and analyzed using this proposed method: noratropine, 4,4’-di-hy-droxydiphenyl ether, 2,4’-dihydroxydiphenyl ether, 4-bromophenol, 4-hydro-xyatropine, tropic acid, apoatropine HCl, atropic acid, hydroquinone, nitroethane, phenol and catechol. The UHPLC method demonstrated enhanced selectivity and significantly reduced the analysis time when compared with the traditional USP compendial HPLC method. Improved prediction of shear wave velocity for clastic sedimentary rocks using hybrid model with core data

Active vibration control of tensegrity structures for performance enhancement: A comparative study

This study performs a novel control effi ciency assessment approach that compares performance of optimal control algorithms regarding vibration of tensegrity structures. Due to complex loading conditions and the inherent characteristics of tensegrities, e.g. geometrical nonlinearity, the quantization of control effi ciency in active control of tensegrity constitutes a challenging task especially for diff erent control algorithms. As a fi rst step, an actuator energy input, comprising the strain energy of tensegrity elements and their internal forces work, is set to constant levels for the linearquadratic regulator (LQR). Afterwards, the actuator energy of the linear-quadratic Gaussian (LQG) is iterated with identical actuator energy input in LQR. A double layer tensegrity grid is employed to compare the control effi ciencies between LQR and LQG with fi ve diff erent control scenarios. The results demonstrate the effi ciency and robustness in reducing the dynamic response of tensegrity structures, and a theoretical guideline is provided to search optimal control options in controlling actual tensegrities.

The excitonic spin polarization in dependence of the size of semiconductor quantum well(QW)was investigated by observing the two different circular polarizations of photoluminescence(PL).From the measurements of PL in QWs,it was found that there is a difference between the two different polarization conditions,which is caused by spindependent phase-space *** PL spin polarization was estimated from the signals of the left and right circularly polarized PL and was found to depend on the size of the wells as well as on the strength of the bias *** effects of the size of the well and applied electric field on the excitonic PL spin polarization were studied.

Magnetic, Dielectric and Complex Impedance Properties of xBa_(0.95)Sr_(0.05)TiO_3–(1-x)BiFe_(0.9)Gd_(0.1)O_3Multiferroic Ceramics

xBa_（0.95）Sr_（0.05）TiO_3–（1-x）BiFe_（0.9）Gd_（0.1）O_3[x BST–（1-x）BFGO]（x = 0.00, 0.10, 0.20 and 0.25） multiferroic ceramics were prepared by the standard solid-state reaction technique. Structural characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction. All the samples showed rhombohedral distorted perovskite structure. Surface morphology of the ceramics was studied by the field emission scanning electron microscope（FESEM）. From the FESEM observation, the grain size was observed to be decreased with increasing BST content. Enhanced magnetic properties were observed in BFGO with the increase in BST content because of large lattice distortion. The complex initial permeability increased with the increasing of BST content. The study of dielectric properties showed that the dielectric constant increased, whereas dielectric loss decreased with increasing of BST content due to the reduction of oxygen vacancies. An analysis of the electric impedance and modulus with frequency was performed at different temperatures. Non-Debye-type relaxation processes occur in the compound which was confirmed from the nature of the Cole–Cole plot. The DC conductivity was found to increase with the rise in temperature which indicates the semiconducting behavior of the compound with characteristics of the negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The activation energy, responsible for the relaxation determined from the modulus spectra（0.246 eV）, was found to be almost same as the value obtained from the impedance study（0.240 eV）, indicating that charge carriers overcome the same energy barrier during relaxation. The frequency response of imaginary parts of electric impedance and modulus suggested that the relaxation in xB ST–（1-x）BFGO ceramics follows the same mechanism at various temperatures.

In this paper, a local model network H-infinity control is proposed for CE-150 helicopter stabilization. The proposed strategy capitalizes on recent developments on H-infinity control and its promising results in robust stabilization of plants under unstructured uncertainties. CE-150 helicopters are known for their varying operating conditions along with external disturbances. Therefore, local model networks are introduced for their adaptive feature and since they provide a powerful combination of fuzzy logic and conventional linear control techniques to control nonlinear systems without the added computational burden of soft-computing techniques. Using the fact that the system can be linearized at different operating points, a mixed sensitivity H-infinity controller is designed for the linearized system, and combined within a network to make transitions between them. The proposed control structure ensures robustness, decoupling of the system dynamics while achieving good performance. A comparison is carried-out against the well-known proportional-integral-derivative （PID） control technique. Results are presented to illustrate the controller＇s performance in various operating conditions.

Supersonic Moist Air Jet Impingements on Flat Surface

Pronounced aeroacoustic resonances are exhibited in the flow field where a jet emerges from an orifice or a nozzle and impinges on a solid surface. One instance where such resonances are produced is in a high speed jet impingement, such as in the space launch vehicle systems, jet-engine exhaust impingement, and in the short take-off and vertical landing （STOVE） aircraft, etc. A highly unsteady flowfield leading to a drastic increase of noise level with very high dynamic pressure and thermal loads are noticed on nearby surfaces results dramatic lift loss, severe ground erosion and hot gas ingestion to the inlet in the jet engines. This highly unsteady behavior of the im- pinging jets is due to a feedback loop between the fluid and acoustic fields. In actual jet flow, the working gas may contain condensable gas such as steam or moist air. In these cases, the non-equilibrium condensation may occur at the region between nozzle exit and an object. The jet flow with non-equilibrium condensation may be quite different from that without condensation. Therefore, in this study, the effect of the non-equilibrium condensation of moist air on the axisymmetric under-expanded supersonic impinging jet on a vertical flat plate was investigated numerically.

Deforestation effects on biological and other important soil properties in an upland watershed of Bangladesh

Deforestation occurs at an alarming rate in upland watersheds of Bangladesh and has many detrimental effects on the environment. This study reports the effects of deforestation on soil biological proper- ties along with some important physicochemical parameters of a southern upland watershed ***. Soils were sampled at 4 paired sites, each pair representing a deforested site and a forested site, and having similar topographical characteristics. Significantly fewer （p〈0.001） fungi and bacteria, and lower microbial respiration, active microbial biomass, metabolic and microbial quotients were found in soils of the deforested sites. Soil physical properties such as moisture content, water holding capacity, and chemical properties such as organic matter, total N, avail- able P and EC were also lower in deforested soils. Bulk density and pH were significantly higher in deforested soils. Available Ca and Mg were inconsistent between the two land uses at all the paired sites. Re- duced abundance and＇biomass of soil mesofauna were recorded in defor- ested soils. However, soil anecic species were more abundant in defor- ested soils than epigeic and endogeic species, which were more abundant in forested soils than on deforested sites.
