Polarization of GRB prompt emission and its application to POLAR’s data

Synchrotron emission polarization is very sensitive to the magnetic field configuration.Recently,polarization of synchrotron emission with a mixed(SM)magnetic field in the gamma-ray burst(GRB)afterglow phase has been developed.Here,we apply these SM models to the GRB prompt phase and compare their polarization properties with that of synchrotron emission in purely ordered(SO)magnetic field.We find that the polarization properties in an SM model are very similar to these in a corresponding SO model(e.g.,synchrotron emission in a mixed magnetic field with an aligned ordered part(SMA)and synchrotron emission with a purely ordered aligned magnetic field(SOA)),only with a lower polarization degree(PD).We also discuss the statistical properties of the models.We find PDs of the simulated bursts are concentrated around 25%for both SOA and synchrotron emission in a purely ordered toroidal magnetic field(SOT),while they can range from 0%to 25%for SMA and synchrotron emission in a mixed magnetic field with a toroidal ordered part(SMT),depending onξ_B value,i.e.,the ratio of magnetic reduction of the ordered magnetic field over that of random magnetic field.From statistics,if PDs of majority GRBs are non-zero,then it favors SO and SM models.Further,if there are some bright GRBs with prominently lower PDs than that of the majority GRBs,it favors SOT(SMT)models;if all the bright GRBs have comparable PDs with the majority ones,it favors SOA(SMA)models.Finally,we apply our results to POLAR’s data and find that~10%time-integrated PDs of the observed bursts favor SMA and SMT models,and theξ_B parameter of these bursts is constrained to be around 1.135.

Lateral root elongation in maize is related to auxin synthesis and transportation mediated by N metabolism under a mixed NO_(3)^(–) and NH_(4)^(+) supply

A mixed nitrate (NO_(3)^(–)) and ammonium (NH_(4)^(+)) supply can promote root growth in maize (Zea mays),however,the changes in root morphology and the related physiological mechanism under different N forms are still unclear.Here,maize seedlings were grown hydroponically with three N supplied in three different forms (NO_(3)^(–)only,75/25 NO_(3)^(–)/NH_(4)^(+)and NH_(4)^(+)only).Compared with sole NO_(3)^(–)or NH_(4)^(+),the mixed N supply increased the total root length of maize but did not affect the number of axial roots.The main reason was the increased total lateral root length,while the average lateral root (LR) length in each axle was only slightly increased.In addition,the average LR density of 2nd whorl crown root under mixed N was also increased.Compared with sole nitrate,mixed N could improve the N metabolism of roots (such as the N influx rate,nitrate reductase (NR) and glutamine synthase (GS)enzyme activities and total amino content of the roots).Experiments with exogenously added NR and GS inhibitors suggested that the increase in the average LR length under mixed N was related to the process of N assimilation,and whether the NR mediated NO synthesis participates in this process needs further exploration.Meanwhile,an investigation of the changes in root-shoot ratio and carbon (C) concentration showed that C transportation from shoots to roots may not be the key factor in mediating lateral root elongation,and the changes in the sugar concentration in roots further proved this conclusion.Furthermore,the synthesis and transportation of auxin in axial roots may play a key role in lateral root elongation,in which the expression of ZmPIN1B and ZmPIN9 may be involved in this pathway.This study preliminarily clarified the changes in root morphology and explored the possible physiological mechanism under a mixed N supply in maize,which may provide some theoretical basis for the cultivation of crop varieties with high N efficiency.

The future of optoelectronics is directed towards small-area light sources,foremost being microLEDs.However,their use has been inhibited so far primarily due to fabrication and integration challenges,which impair efficiency and yield.Recently,bottom-up nanostructures grown using selective area epitaxy have garnered attention as a solution to the aforementioned issues.Prof.lan Fu et.***.have used this technique to demonstrate uniform p-i-n core-shell InGaAs/InP nanowire array light emitting diodes.The devices are capable of voltage and geometry-controlled multi-wavelength and high-speed operations.Their publication accentuates the wide capabilities of bottom-up nanostructures to resolve the difficulties of nanoscale optoelectronics.

A Review of Artificial Waterfalls in Gardens

When artificial waterfalls are built in gardens,leaves from trees or vegetation often fall into the water storage pool and block the pipelines,requiring regular cleaning of pipelines.This not only increases the manpower needed for maintenance but also disrupts the use of the waterfalls.Therefore,it is necessary to design a new type of artificial waterfall that is suitable for gardens.The waterfall should incorporate features that make cleaning easier,including filter plates and water funnels to prevent clogging caused by fallen leaves and debris.

Ventricular arrhythmogenesis is a key cause of sudden cardiac death following myocardial infarction(mi).Accumulating data show that ischemia,sympathetic activation,and inflammation contribute to arrhythmogenesis.However,the role and mechanisms of abnormal mechanical stress in ventricular arrhythmia following mi remain undefined.We aimed to examine the impact of increased mechanical stress and identify the role of the key sensor Piezo1 in ventricular arrhythmogenesis in mi.Concomitant with increased ventricular pressure,Piezo1,as a newly recognized mechano-sensitive cation channel,was the most up-regulated mechanosensor in the myocardium of patients with advanced heart failure.Piezo1 was mainly located at the intercalated discs and T-tubules of cardiomyocytes,which are responsible for intracellular calcium homeostasis and intercellular communication.

Purpose:To identify the risk factors for training-related lower extremity muscle injuries in young males by a non-invasive method of body composition analysis.Methods:A total of 282 healthy young male volunteers aged 18-20 years participated in this cohort study.Injury location,degree,and injury rate were adjusted by a questionnaire based on the overuse injury assessment methods used in epidemiological studies of sports injuries.The occurrence of training injuries is monitored and diagnosed by physicians and treated accordingly.The body composition was measured using the BodyStat QuadScan 4000 multifrequency Bio-impedance system at 5,50,100 and 200 kHz to obtain 4 impedance values.The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to check whether the data conformed to a normal distribution.Data of normal distribution were shown as mean±SD and analyzed by t-test,while those of non-normal distribution were shown as median(Q1,Q3)and analyzed by Wilcoxon rank sum test.The receiver operator characteristic curve and logistic regression analysis were performed to investigate risk factors for developing training-related lower extremity injuries and accuracy.Results:Among the 282 subjects,78(27.7%)developed training injuries.Lower extremity training injuries revealed the highest incidence,accounting for 23.4%(66 cases).These patients showed higher percentages of lean body mass(p=0.001),total body water(TBW,p=0.006),extracellular water(p=0.020)and intracellular water(p=0.010)as well as a larger ratio of basal metabolic rate/total weight(p=0.006),compared with those without lower extremity muscle injuries.On the contrary,the percentage of body fat(p=0.001)and body fat mass index(p=0.002)were lower.Logistic regression analysis showed that TBW percentage>65.35%(p=0.050,odds ratio=3.114)and 3rd space water>0.95%(p=0.045,odds ratio=2.342)were independent risk factors for lower extremity muscle injuries.Conclusion:TBW percentage and 3rd space water measured with bio-impedance method are potential risk factors for predicting the incidence of lower

Fabrication of Molecularly Imprinted Electrospun Nanofibers with Mono-amidoxime Functional Ligand for Efficient Decontamination of Toxic Organophosphates

There is an urgent imperative to discover practical and efficacious artificial catalysts for the expeditious decontamination of toxic organophosphates. Herein, we propose a novel molecularly imprinted approach utilizing electrospun fiber scaffolds. Specifically, an amidoxime-based functional polymer (PMAOX) has been synthesized, which contains amidoxime groups that can act as nucleophiles and ligands for the formation of catalytic active sites. This polymer was blended with polyacrylonitrile (PAN), a well-processable material, to prepare a nanofiber mat using electrospinning techniques. Then, the amidoxime side groups on fiber surface were further cross-linked after the molecular coordination of templates to complete the molecularly imprinting process. This approach can not only enhance the content of functional molecularly imprinted polymers without affecting structural stability, but also combines surface mi technology to fully expose and leverage the advantages of active sites. The as prepared molecularly imprinted electrospun nanofibers miF-Zn-PMAOX/PAN-6/4 catalyzes the degradation of paraoxon with a half-life of 32 min, and miF-Ag-PMAOX/PAN catalyzes the degradation of parathion with a half-life of 18 min. The maximum catalytic rate evidence rate enhancements nearly 3700-fold of the self-hydrolysis. Thus, the mono-amidoxime based molecularly imprinted fibers demonstrate the versatility and superiority as self-detoxifying for organophosphates.

BACKGROUND Myocardial infarction(mi)is a critical cardiovascular event with multifaceted etiology,involving several genetic and environmental factors.It is essential to understand the function of plasma metabolites in the development of mi and unravel its complex pathogenesis.METHODS This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization(MR)approach to investigate the causal relationships between plasma metabolites and mi risk.We used genetic instruments as proxies for plasma metabolites and mi and conducted MR analyses in both directions to assess the impact of metabolites on mi risk and vice versa.In addition,the large-scale genome-wide association studies datasets was used to identify genetic variants associated with plasma metabolite(1400 metabolites)and mi(20,917 individuals with mi and 440,906 individuals without mi)susceptibility.Inverse variance weighted was the primary method for estimating causal effects.MR estimates are expressed as beta coefficients or odds ratio(OR)with 95%CI.RESULTS We identified 14 plasma metabolites associated with the occurrence of mi(Pmi,whereas the remaining 6 plasma metabolites[1-palmitoyl-2-arachidonoyl-GPE(16:0/20:4)levels(OR=1.051,95%CI:1.018–1.084,P=0.002),behenoyl dihydrosphingomyelin(d18:0/22:0)levels(OR=1.076,95%CI:1.027–1.128,P=0.002),1-stearoyl-2-docosahexaenoyl-GPE(18:0/22:6)levels(OR=1.067,95%CI:1.027–1.109,P=0.001),alpha-ketobutyrate levels(OR=1.108,95%CI:1.041–1.180,P=0.001),5-acetylamino-6-formylam

The defense system of teleost fish organized on innate and adaptive immunity protects them against a wide variety of pathogenic microorganisms in the aquatic environment.Phagocytosis is one of the most effective defense strategies against microbial challenge mainly performed by classical‘professional’phagocytes(including monocytes,macrophages and granulocytes).They contain,kill and process the internalized pathogens for antigen presentation by providing antigenic ligands to initiate activation and clonal expansion of T and B cells,which bridge the innate and adaptive immunity.The discovery of phagocytic B cells in teleost fish has broken the paradigm that primary vertebrate B cells are lack of phagocytosis of particulates,as well as led to the investigation of phagocytic activity of mammalian B-1 B cells.The active phagocytic,microbicidal capabilities and antigen presentation in teleost phagocytic B cell have demonstrated to be similar as professional phagocytes,providing a potential impact on development of new vaccination strategies to prevent and control infectious diseases.In this review,we aim to address current progress on the antimicrobial role of phagocytic B cells in teleost fish by comparing it with other professional phagocytes and mammalian B-1 B cells,and provide the application prospect of phagocytic B cells in developing vaccines as well as the prevention of fish diseases.
