The Toll signaling pathway is responsible for defense against both Grampositive bacteria and ***-negative binding protein 3(GNBP3)has a strong affinity for the fungal cell wall component,β-1,3-glucan,which can activate the prophenoloxidase (proPO)cascade and induce the Toll signaling *** differentiation factor 88 (MyD88)is an intracellular adaptor protein involved in the Toll signaling *** this study,we monitored the response of 5 key genes (TmGNBP3,TmMyD88,and Tenecin 1,2, and 3)in the Toll pathway of the mealworm Tenebrio molitor immune system against the fungus Beauveria bassiana JEF-007 using ***3,Tenecin 1,and Tenecin 2 were significantly upregulated after fungal *** better understand the roles of the Toll signaling pathway in the mealworm immune system,TmGNBP3and TmMyD88 were knocked down by RNAi *** gene expression levels decreased at 2 d postknockdown and were dramatically reduced at 6 d post-dsRNA ***, mealworms were compromised by *** JEF-007at 6d post-dsRNA injection. Boron nitride nanotubes(BNNTs)show exceptional physical properties including high mechanical strength and thermal conductivity;however,their applications have been restricted due to limited dispersibility in processing ***,a novel BNNT dispersion method with exceptional dispersibility in a wide range of solvents has been demonstrated by surtace polarity modulation through short-molecule pyridine *** atoms in pyridine are selectively bonded to electron-deficient boron atoms of the BNNT surface through Lewis acid-base reaction,which ch.nges the surface polarity of BNNTs from neutral to ***-dispersing pyridine-attached BNNTs(Py-BNNTs)create a thick and stable electronic double layer(EDL),resulting in uniform dispersion of BNNTs in solvents with an exceptional solubility parameter range of 18.5-48 MPa^1/*** uniform dispersion of BNNTs is maintained even after the mixing with diverse ***,composites incorporating uniformly-distributed BNNTs have been realized,and extraordinary property enhancements have been *** thermal conductivity of 20 wt.%Py-BNNT/epoxy composite has been significantly improved by 69.6%and the tensile strength of 2 wt.%Py-BNNT/PVA has been dramatically improved by 75.3%.Our work demonstrates a simple and facile route to dispersing BNNTs in diverse solvents,consequently leading to selective utlization of BNNT dispersed solvents in various application fields.

chondrosarcoma of the nasal septum is extremely rare. In some cases, it may be diff icult to preoperatively differentiate low grade chondrosarcoma from benign cartilaginous tumors such as chondroma. We report a case of low grade chondrosarcoma of the nasal septum with characteristic radiologic f indings. characteristic radiologic f indings such as calcif ications on computed tomography scan and a ring-and-arc pattern on enhanced T1 weighted image were useful in the preoperative diagnosis of low grade chondrosarcoma of the septum. Awareness of radiologic f indings of low grade chondrosarcoma can help to make an accurate diagnosis and perform appropriate excision, leading to successful local control.

To investigate the characteristic radiologic findings of cryptogenic multifocal ulcerous stenosing enteritis (CMUse) which can be differentiated from other similar bowel disease and to assess their clinical behavior. METHODSTwenty pathologically and clinically confirmed CMUse patients (males:females = 8:12; mean age: 40.4 years) between March 2002 and August 2015 from seven academic centers in South Korea were retrospectively reviewed. We evaluated small bowel series (SBS; n = 25), computed tomography (CT) enterography (n = 21), magnetic resonance (MR) enterography (n = 2), and abdominopelvic CT (n = 18) images, focusing on enteric and perienteric manifestations. Any ch.nge in radiologic features during follow-up period was recorded. We evaluated clinical data including presenting symptoms, laboratory finding and presence of relapse from electronic medical records. Histopathologic findings were also evaluated. RESULTSThe main symptoms were abdominal pain (n = 12) and anemia (n = 10). All patients showed small bowel strictures (n = 52, mean: 2.6 per patient) on initial CT/MR, located in the ileum (n = 47) or jejunum (n = 5). Strictures showed short-length (mean: 10.44 mm) and circumferential bowel wall thickening (mean: 5.56 mm) with layered enhancement (n = 48) that were also noted on initial SBS (n = 36) with shallow ulcers (n = 10). Some ulcerative lesions or wall thickening progressed into strictures on follow-up SBS/CT, and some strictures revealed recurrent ulceration on follow-up SBS. There were no penetrating disease features like fistula or abscess and no gastrointestinal tract involvement except the small bowel. Nine patients experienced disease recurrence (median relapse-free period: 32 mo) even post-operatively. Histopathologic features of surgically resected specimens were characterized as multiple superficial ulcerations confined to mucosa or submucosa and multiple strictures. The nestling diet of fairy pitta <i>pitta nympha</i>on Jeju Island, Korea

The nestling diet of the Fairy Pitta (pitta nympha) was studied by videotaping during breeding period in Jeju Island, 2009. Earthworms of several species were the most common food resources for nestlings, averaging 82% of all items, followed by 4% of Homoptera larvae. The remaining was only rarely recorded, including Lepidopteran larvae and adults, slugs, spiders, beetle adults and larvae (Coleoptera) and grasshoppers. Adults provided the number of preys ranging from 1 to 7 items to chicks per one visit. The average value of prey number per visit was 3.0 (SD = 1.38). The estimated average length of prey was 5.7 cm (SD = 2.85), and 96% of the food items were smaller than 10 cm. The staying time for feeding in an early stage was longer than other stages. Provision rate at a forenoon (mean ± SD, 14.7 ± 4.92) and an afternoon time (15.8 ± 5.30) was not significantly higher than that of noon time (11.7 ± 4.49). These results provide basic information for conservation action of international endangered species of this species.

Simple synthesis of sandwich-like Snse2/rGO as high initial coulombic efficiency and high stability anode for sodium-ion batteries

Metal selenides owing to their high theoretical capacity and good conductivity are considered as one of the potential candidates for the anode materials of sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).However,their practical applications are greatly restricted by the poor cycling performances and complicated synthesis *** this work,a sandwich-like Sn se2/reduced graphene oxide(r GO)composite with a small amount of r GO(7.3%)is synthesized by a simple one-pot solvothermal *** as-synthesized Sn se2/r GO shows improved initial coulombic efficiency(ICE)of 73.7%,high capacity of 402.0 m Ah g-1 after 150 cycles at 0.1 A g-1 with a retention of 86.2%and outstanding rate *** abundant Sn-O-C bonds of synthesized material not only accelerate the charge transfer at the interface but also enhance the mechanical strength to accommodate volume variation and prevent active material loss during ***,the compact structure leads to thin solid electrolyte interface(seI)so that high initial coulombic efficiency was ***,full cells are assembled to test its potential *** work offers a simple method to synthesize Sn se2/r GO as a candidate anode for SIBs.

Accumulation and speciation of selenium in Cardamine sp. in Yutangba se mining Field, Enshi, china

A naturally selenium-accumulating Cardamine sp. is growing in Yutangba selenium mining Field, Enshi area, Hubei Province, china, where the geochemical environment is selenium-enriched and endemic selenosis ever occurred in humans. The present study investigated the characteristics of accumulation, speciation and quantity of selenium in Cardamine sp. with HPLC-ICP-MS. Results show that Cardamine sp. can accumulate se at most 1427 mg/kg in seedling leaves. Even after the biomass incensement of growing up, the plant still could accumulate se up to several hundred of mg/kg in concentration. Moreover, the biomass enrichment coefficient(BEC) of se is exceedingly high, in the seedling leaves mostly, higher than 50 mg/kg; in the range of 43.7–68 mg/kg; and the lowest value is higher than 3 mg/kg in mature fronds. se is present in the plant predominantly in form of se Cys2 with the highest concentration in seeds; up to 1081 mg/kg as se. In contrast, se Cys2 levels are low during early growth period; they are 136.1 mg/kg as se in seedling fronds and 39.4 mg/kg as se in mature fronds, respectively. se Met concentration is comparatively low; 10.6 mg/kg as se in seedling frond and 5.3 mg/kg as se in half mature fronds, respectively. This indicates that Cardamine sp. is extremely efficient in extracting se from soil and translocating it into its above-ground biomass. Therefore, Cardamine sp., found in Yutangba se mining Field may be a new se hyperaccumulator. It is still uncertain whether the se-accumulation or detoxification of Cardamine sp. happens through the pathway of se Cys methylated to form se-methylseleno Cys or through the formation of se-carboxymethyl- selenohomocysteine. Indeed, further study should be carried out on the determination of more se species to explain the high se hyperaccumulation in Cardamine sp.

Background:The trend of military patients becoming infected with vivax malaria reemerged in the Republic of Korea(ROK)in *** common explanation has been that infective Anopheles mosquitoes from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have invaded Republic of Korea’s demilitarized zone(DMZ).The aim of this study was to verify the relationship between meteorological factors and the number of malaria patients in the military in this ***:The authors estimated the effects of meteorological factors on vivax malaria patients from the military based on the monthly number of malaria cases between 2006 and ***,precipitation,snow depth,wind velocity,relative humidity,duration of sunshine,and cloud cover were selected as the meteorological factors to be studied.A systematic pattern in the spatial distribution of malaria cases was assessed using the Moran’s *** causality tests and cross-correlation coefficients were used to evaluate the relationship between meteorological factors and malaria patients in the ***:Spatial analysis revealed significant clusters of malaria patients in the military in Republic of Korea in 2011(Moran’s I=0.136,p-value=0.026).In the six years investigated,the number of malaria patients in the military in Paju decreased,but the number of malaria patients in the military in Hwacheon and chuncheon *** average,maximum and minimum temperatures;wind velocity;and relative humidity were found to be predicting factors of malaria in patients in the military in *** contrast,wind velocity alone was not able to predict malaria in Hwacheon and chuncheon,however,precipitation and cloud cover were able to predict malaria in Hwacheon and ***:This study demonstrated that the number of malaria patients in the military is correlated with meteorological *** variation in occurrence of malaria cases was principally attributed to differences in meteorological factors by regions of
