Ocular trauma treated with pars plana vitrectomy: early outcome report

AIM： To evaluate demographic variables and visual outcomes, among patients with ocular injuries involving the posterior segment, managed with pars plana vitrectomy.· METHODS： The records of patients were studied retrospectively from March to September 2010, to determine the age, gender, place of occurrence of trauma, visual acuity, anatomical site, nature of injury,wound length, the presence of an afferent pupillary defect, and the timing of vitrectomy. The Ocular Trauma Score was measured. The minimum follow-up from presentation was 6mo.·RESULTS： Ninety patients（77 males, 13 females）, with a mean age of 32.7 ±15.8y were included over the 6-month period. The majority of cases occurred in the workplace（47 patients）, followed by home（14 patients）.The mean visual acuity（log MAR） of patients significantly improved from 2.36 ±0.72 preoperatively to 1.50 ±1.14 postoperatively. Twenty-three patients had preoperative vision better than 2.0 log MAR, the postoperative visual acuity was significantly better among these patients than patients with worse than 2.0 log MAR（P 〈0.001）. Visual improvement between groups with early vitrectomy（〉7d）and delayed vitrectomy（〉7d） was not significantly different（P =0.66）. Postoperative visual acuity was not significantly different between patients with injury in Zone I and II（P =0.64）, but patients with injury in Zone III had significantly poorer visual acuity（P =0.02）. Patients with relative afferent pupillary defect had significantly poorer postoperative visual acuity（P =0.02）. Preoperative visual acuity, the difference of preoperative and postoperative visual acuity, and postoperative visualacuity were significantly different between groups with different ocular trauma scores（P〈 0.001）.·CONCLUSION： Trauma is more likely to occur in men under 40 y of age and in the workplace. 目的:评估先天性上睑下垂患者的弱视发病情况。方法:在本横断面研究中,包括1岁以上的先天性上睑下垂患者100例(114眼)。最佳矫正视力小于10/10或两眼之间至少相差2/10者定义为弱视。年幼患者不能进行斯内伦视力表检测者,观察其注视情况。不同弱视患者的类型:1)屈光参差性弱视:散光性屈光参差≥1.00D;远视性球镜屈光参差≥1.00D,近视性球镜屈光参差≥-3.00D(睫状肌麻痹);2)斜视性弱视,3)形觉剥夺性弱视(SDA)。观察弱视的总发病率及类型,并对单侧和双侧上睑下垂患者进行比较。结果:弱视的发生率在上睑下垂患者为39/114(34.2%),其具体原因:屈光参差性弱视占29.8%,SDA占10.5%,斜视性弱视4.3%,严重的上睑下垂患者弱视发病率更高,视轴遮盖者(OA)占76%,而视轴未遮盖者只占22%。在视轴遮盖的单侧眼睑下垂患者,散光屈光参差性弱视发生率更高,在双侧眼睑下垂至少1眼视轴遮盖者,球镜屈光参差性弱视发生率更高。无论单侧和双侧上睑下垂,如果有视轴遮盖,则SDA比较多见。结论:由于屈光参差性弱视比SDA发生率更高,关注导致的弱视所有原因对于预防儿童上睑下垂所致的弱视极其重要。

Theoretical Investigation of Hydrogen Sulfide Adsorption on the Surface of F Functionalized Carbon and Carbon Silicon Nanotubes (7,0) in the Gas Phase and Water

In order to develop a sensor for the detection of toxic H_2S molecule,the interactions of C–NT and CSi–NT with H_2S molecule were investigated by density functional theory calculations. The effects of F functionalization and water on the adsorption of H_2S gas on C–NT and CSi–NT surfaces were investigated. The studied nanotubes can interact with the H_2S molecule effectively and so adsorptions of H_2S on studied nanotubes are exothermic and possible from the energetic viewpoint. Replacing the C atoms of C–NT with Si atoms may be a good strategy for improving the sensitivity of C–NT towards H_2S. F functionalization and water cause an increase and decrease in the absolute adsorption energy（Ead） values of H_2S on the studied nanotubes,respectively. There are good linearity dependencies between Ead and orbital energy values of studied nanotubes. The Ead and orbital energy values of studied nanotubes can be considered as important parameters to propose suitable nanotubes with increased potential of H_2S adsorption.

Antioxidant Properties of Substituted Thymols and Their Adsorption on Aluminum Phosphide(AlP)Nanotube(8,0)as Controlled Drug Delivery Device:Theoretical Study in Gas Phase and Ethanol

We have studied the adsorption of thymol derivatives on AlP-nanotube surface by using density functional calculations in gas phase. Also the antioxidant activity of thymol was investigated in gas phase and ethanol. The effects of NMe2, OEthyl and Me substituents on the antioxidant activity and adsorption ability of thymol on AlP-nanotube were investigated. Results show that AlP-nanotube can effectively interact with substituted thymols, so their adsorptions are exothermic and experimentally possible from the energetic viewpoint. Results also show that, replacing NMe2 group in the x position of thymol may be a good strategy to improve the sensitivity of thymol toward AlP-nanotube surface. The NMe2 and OEthyl substitutions decrease the BDE and IP values and increase the antioxidant activity of thymol. The BDE and IP values of thymols have linear dependencies with corresponding Ead values. These can be utilized to select novel thymol derivatives with higher antioxidant activity and drug delivery ability.

Antioxidant Activity of Substituted Enterolactone Derivatives in the Gas Phase and Water

The antioxidant activity of ortho and meta substituted Enterolactone derivatives has been investigated in the gas phase and *** reaction enthalpies of antioxidant activity of the studied derivatives have been calculated and compared with the corresponding values of *** show that EWG substituents increase the BDE and IP,while the EDG ones rise in the *** Enterolactone derivatives with the lowest BDE,IP and PA values were identified as the compounds with high antioxidant *** show that the substituents in the ortho position have high potential for the synthesis of novel Enterolactone *** show that Enterolactone derivatives can processes their protective role via HAT and SPLET mechanism in gas phase and solvent,*** calculated reaction enthalpies of the substituted Enterolactones have linear dependence with Hammett constants and EHOMO that can be utilized in the selection of suitable substituents for the synthesis of novel antioxidants based on Enterolactone.

Antioxidant Activity of Sesamol Derivatives and Their Drug Delivery via C60 Nanocage: a Theoretical Study

The antioxidant activity of sesamol derivatives and their drug delivery via fullerene were investigated. Fullerene can interact with sesamol derivatives, and their adsorptions were possible from the energetic viewpoint. Adding the NH_2 group to sesamol can improve the sensitivity of sesamol toward fullerene surface. The NH_2 and OMe substitutions increase the antioxidant activity of sesamol. The results can also be used to select novel sesamol derivatives with higher antioxidant activity and higher drug delivery ability.

Adsorption of Synthesized Pyridinyl-pyrazolecarbox Amide Derivatives as Anti-fungal on the Surface of Ge-nanotube(6,6)

The anti-fungal activities of synthesized pyridinyl-pyrazole-carbox amide derivatives 1a^1c were investigated via theoretical parameters. The obtained results in present paper were compared with the reported experimental results. Experimental results show that derivative 1a has the highest and derivative 1c the lowest anti-fungal activity. The interactions of derivatives 1a^1c with Ge-nanotube（6, 6） were investigated, and also quantum molecular descriptors of derivatives 1a^1c were calculated. Results show that, derivatives 1a^1c can interact with Ge-nanotube（6, 6） effectively, and their adsorptions were exothermic and possible from the theoretical viewpoint. The absolute ΔEad and ΔGad values of derivative 1a on Ge-nanotube（6, 6） were higher than the absolute ΔEad and ΔGad values of 1 b and 1c. Derivative 1a has the highest absolute μ, ω and ΔN values. The theoretical and experimental trends of anti-fungal activity of derivatives 1a^1c were similar, successfully.

Studies on the Ability of Carbon Nanotube(5,5) as Drug Carrier and Anticancer Properties of Benzylthio-indolyl-triazol-amine Derivatives

The anticancer activities of synthesized benzylthio-indolyl-triazol-amine derivatives 1a^1c were investigated via theoretical scales. The experimental results show that derivative 1a has the highest anticancer activity, and 1c has the lowest one. The interactions of 1a^1c with C-nanotube（5,5） were investigated. Also the quantum molecular descriptors of derivatives 1a^1c were calculated and the results show that they can interact with C-nanotube（5,5） effectively. The adsorptions of 1a^1c on C-nanotube（5,5） surface were exothermic and experimentally possible from the energetic viewpoint. The results indicated that ΔEad and ΔGad values of derivative 1a on C-nanotube（5,5） were higher than those of the corresponding derivatives 1b and 1c, so 1a has the highest ｜μ｜, ω and ｜？N｜ values and the lowest value, and the trends of theoretical anticancer activities of 1a^1c are similar to the experimental values successfully.

Study of Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide on the Surface of Sn-doped Carbon Nanotube

In recent years, the discovery of suitable catalyst to the oxidation of carbon monoxide(CO) is a major concern in industry. In present study, in the first step the carbon nanotube(CNT) with Sn was doped and the surface of Sn-CNT via O_2 molecule was activated. In the second step the CO oxidation on the surface of Sn-CNT via Langmuir Hinshelwood(LH) and Eley Rideal(ER) mechanisms was investigated. Results show that O_2-Sn-CNT can oxidize the CO molecule via Sn-CNT-O-O* + CO → Sn-CNT-O-O*-CO → Sn-CNT-O* + CO_2 and Sn-CNT-O* + CO → Sn-CNT + CO_2 reactions. Results show that CO oxidation on activated Sn-CNT surface via the ER mechanism has lower energy barrier than LH mechanism. Finally, calculated parameters reveal that activated Sn-CNT is an acceptable catalyst with high potential to the oxidation of CO molecule.

Mechanical characteristics of biodegradable magnesium matrix composites:A review

In recent years,a new generation of biodegradable metallic materials,magnesium alloys,has been called a revolutionary material for biomedical applications(*** orthopedics applications as a bone-implant material),thanks to the reasonable strength(similar to bone tissue,compared to available metallic alloys)and high biocompatibility of magnesium and its ***,pure magnesium can corrode too quickly in the physiological pH(7.4–7.6)and high chloride environment of the physiological system and therefore lose their mechanical integrity before tissues have *** approach to this challenge(high corrosion rate of Mg)can be(i)alloying of element additions,(ii)surface treatment and(iii)development of metal(magnesium)matrix composites(MMCs).Magnesium-based composites,as bio-materials,can provide a combination of unique characteristics including adjustable mechanical properties(*** strength,elastic modulus,ductility)and corrosion *** is the main advantage of magnesium-based composites as compared with alloying and surface treatment ***,the matrix materials are biomedical magnesium alloys based on Mg–Zn,Mg–Ca and Mg–REE alloy systems(REE stands for rare earth elements including yttrium,Y,cerium,Ce,lanthanum,La).The reinforcement phases are mainly based on hydroxyapatite(HAP),calcium polyphosphate(CPP),andβ-tricalcium phosphate(β-TCP)particles,and hybrid HAP+β-TCP *** this paper a comprehensive review is provided on different grades of biodegradable magnesium matrix composites,with focus on their mechanical properties.
