Background Krill（Euphausia superba） and salps（Salpa thompsoni） are key macrozooplankton grazers in the Southern Ocean ecosystem. However, due to differing habitat requirements, both species previously exhibited little spatial overlap. With ongoing climate change-induced seawater temperature increase and regional sea ice loss, salps can now extend their spatial distribution into historically krill-dominated areas and increase rapidly due to asexual reproduction when environmental conditions are favorable. Understanding the potential effects on krill is crucial, since krill is a species of exceptional trophic significance in the Southern Ocean food web. Negative impacts on krill could trigger cascading effects on its predators and prey. To address this question, we combined two individual-based models on salps and krill, which describe the whole life cycle of salp individuals and the dynamic energy budget of individual krill. The resulting new model PEKRIS（PErformance of KRIll vs. Salps） simulates a krill population for 100 years under varying chlorophyll-a concentrations in the presence or absence of *** All of the investigated krill population properties（abundance, mean length, and yearly egg production） were significantly impacted by the presence of salps. On the other hand, salp density was not impacted if krill were present. The medians of krill population properties deviated during variable maximum chlorophyll-a density per year when salps were introduced by-99.9%（-234 individuals per 1000 m3） for krill density,-100%（-22,062 eggs per 1000 m3） for krill eggs and-0.9%（-0.3 mm） for mean length of *** If both species compete for the same food resource in a closed space, salps seem to inhibit krill populations. This paper offers a systematic literature review of real-time detection and classification of Power Quality Disturbances(PQDs).A particular focus is given to voltage sags and notches,as voltage sags cause huge economic losses while research on voltage notches is still very incipient.A systematic method based on scientometrics,text similarity and the analytic hierarchy process is proposed to structure the review and select the most relevant literature.A biblio-metric analysis is then performed on the bibliographic data of the literature to identify relevant statistics such as the evolution of publications over time,top publishing countries,and the distribution by relevant topics.A set of articles is subsequently selected to be critically *** critical review is structured in steps for real-time detection and classification of PQDs,namely,input data preparation,preprocessing,transformation,feature extraction,feature selec-tion,detection,classification,and *** associated with the type of disturbance(s)addressed in the literature are also explored throughout the review,including the perspectives of those studies aimed at multiple PQDs,or specifically focused on voltage sags or voltage *** real-time performance of the reviewed tools is also ***,unsolved issues are discussed,and prospects are highlighted.

Investigation of normal,lateral,and oblique impact of microscale projectiles into unidirectional glass/epoxy composites

Spacesuits and spacecraft must endure high velocity impacts from micrometeoroids. This work considers the impact of 100 μm diameter projectiles into composite targets at velocities from 0.5 km/s to 2 km/*** work begins by presenting an energy-based theoretical model relating depth of penetration(Do P)and impact force to impact velocity, characteristic time, and threshold velocity and force. Next, this work compares numerical simulations of normal impact on composites to the theoretical model. Numerical simulations are conducted with LS-DYNA and the well-known composite model, MAT-162. The numerical models consider unidirectional S2-glass fiber reinforced SC-15 epoxy composite laminates. The numerical model shows good correlation with the theoretical model. The numerical model also investigates lateral impact, parallel to the fiber direction, and oblique impact at angles from 30°to 82.5°.This work decomposes oblique impact into normal and lateral components, and compares them with normal and lateral impact results. The results show good correlation of the normal component of oblique results with the theoretical model. This numerical and theoretical study focuses on Do P, velocity, and penetration resistance force as functions of time. The theoretical model and numerical simulations are used to determine new Do P parameters: characteristic time of depth of penetration and threshold impact velocity. These models are a first step in developing the capability to predict Do P for oblique,microscale, high-speed impact on composite materials.
