At present,Alzheimer’s disease(AD)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)are two highly prevalent disorders worldwide,especially among elderly individuals.T2DM appears to be associated with cognitive dysfunction,with a higher risk of developing neurocognitive disorders,including *** diseases have been observed to share various pathophysiological mechanisms,including alterations in insulin signaling,defects in glucose transporters(GLUTs),and mitochondrial dysfunctions in the ***,the aim of this review is to summarize the current knowledge regarding the molecular mechanisms implicated in the association of these pathologies as well as recent therapeutic *** this context,the hyperphosphorylation of tau and the formation of neurofibrillary tangles have been associated with the dysfunction of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways in the nervous tissues as well as the decrease in the expression of GLUT-1 and GLUT-3 in the different areas of the brain,increase in reactive oxygen species,and production of mitochondrial alterations that occur in *** findings have contributed to the implementation of overlapping pharmacological interventions based on the use of insulin and antidiabetic drugs,or,more recently,azeliragon,amylin,among others,which have shown possible beneficial effects in diabetic patients diagnosed with AD.

Parallel Kinematic Machines(PKMs)are being widely used for precise applications to achieve complex motions and variable poses for the end effector *** are found in medical,assembly and manufacturing industries where accuracy is *** is often desired to have a compact and simple architecture for the robotic *** this paper,the kinematic and dynamic analysis of a novel 3-PRUS(P:prismatic joint,R:revolute joint,U:universal joint,S:spherical joint)parallel manipulator with a mobile platform having 6 Degree of Freedom(Do F)is *** kinematic equations for the proposed spatial parallel mechanism are formulated using the Modified Denavit-Hartenberg(DH)technique considering both active and passive *** kinematic equations are used to derive the Jacobian matrix of the mechanism to identify the singular points within the workspace.A Jacobian based sti ness analysis is done to understand the variations in sti ness for different poses of the mobile platform and further,it is used to decide trajectories for the end effector within the singularity free *** analytical model of the robot dynamics is presented using the Euler-Lagrangian approach with Lagrangian multipliers to include the system *** gravity and inertial forces of all links are considered in the mathematical *** analytical results of the dynamic model are compared with ADAMS simulation results for a pre-defined trajectory of the end effector.

Paleo-Earthquakes along the Zheduotang Fault,Xianshuihe Fault System,Eastern Tibet:Implications for Seismic Hazard Evaluation

The Kangding City in eastern Tibet is at high risk due to frequent strong earthquakes along the Xianshuihe sinistral strike-slip fault bounding the chuandian Block to the *** knowledge of paleo-seismicity recurrence along this fault system is key to the evaluation of earthquake hazards in this region;thus,more accurate paleoseismic information are *** examined the paleo-seismicity along the Zheduotang fault in the central segment of the Xianshuihe fault system by applying the field investigation,trenching,and Quaternary dating methods(e.g.,OSL and ^(14)C).Field observations found~8.5 m offset of stream by sinistral slip along the Zheduotang *** trenched the central fault zone of the Zheduotang fault and found that the colluvial wedges and five buried,discontinuous,A-soil horizons progressively have been offset in the shallow graben on the SW-side of the main fault indicative of the *** dating results of OSL and ^(14)C,in line with existing data,enable us to establish the paleo-seismic history of the Zheduotang *** shows at least eight surface ruptures in the last 7500 years identified from displaced buried soils,colluvial wedges and *** study reveals~100 years minimum paleo-earthquake recurrence,suggesting potential large earthquakes in the Kangding area in the future.

Electron-hole hybridization in bilayer graphene

Band structure determines the motion of electrons in a solid, giving rise to exotic phenomena when properly engineered. Drawing an analogy between electrons and photons, artificially designed optical lattices indicate the possibility of a similar band modulation effect in graphene systems. Yet due to the fermionic nature of electrons, modulated electronic systems promise far richer categories of behaviors than those found in optical lattices. Here, we uncovered a strong modulation of electronic states in bilayer graphene subject to periodic potentials. We observed for the first time the hybridization of electron and hole sub-bands, resulting in local band gaps at both primary and secondary charge neutrality points. Such hybridization leads to the formation of flat bands, enabling the study of correlated effects in graphene systems. This work may provide a novel way to manipulate electronic states in layered systems, which is important to both fundamental research and application.

Atomically phase-matched second-harmonic generation in a 2D crystal

Second-harmonic generation(SHG)has found extensive applications from hand-held laser pointers to spectroscopic and microscopic ***,some cleavable van der Waals(vdW)crystals have shown SHG arising from a single atomic layer,where the SH light elucidated important information such as the grain boundaries and electronic structure in these ultra-thin ***,despite the inversion asymmetry of the single layer,the typical crystal stacking restores inversion symmetry for even numbers of layers leading to an oscillatory SH response,drastically reducing the applicability of vdW crystals such as molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2)).Here,we probe the SHG generated from the noncentrosymmetric 3R crystal phase of MoS_(2).We experimentally observed quadratic dependence of second-harmonic intensity on layer number as a result of atomically phase-matched nonlinear dipoles in layers of the 3R crystal that constructively *** studying the layer evolution of the A and B excitonic transitions in 3R-MoS_(2) using SHG spectroscopy,we also found distinct electronic structure differences arising from the crystal structure and the dramatic effect of symmetry and layer stacking on the nonlinear properties of these atomic *** constructive nature of the SHG in this 2D crystal provides a platform to reliably develop atomically flat and controllably thin nonlinear media.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of rutile-reinforced AA6061 matrix composites produced via stir casting process

A novel process of fabricating aluminium matrix composites(AMCs)with requisite properties by dispersing rutile particles in the aluminum matrix was studied.A novel bi-stage stir casting method was employed to prepare composites,by varying the mass fractions of the rutile particles as 1%,2%,3%and 4%in AA6061 *** density,tensile strength,hardness and microstructures of composites were ***-stage stir casting method engendered AMCs with uniform distribution of the reinforced rutile particles in the AA6061 *** was confirmed by the enhancement of the properties of AMCs over the parent base ***-reinforced AMCs exhibited higher tensile strength and hardness as compared with unreinforced parent *** properties of the composites were enhanced with the increase in the mass fraction of the rutile ***,beyond 3 wt.%of rutile particles,the tensile strength *** hardness and tensile strength of the AMCs reinforced with 3 wt.%of rutile were improved by 36%and 14%respectively in comparison with those of matrix alone.

Upcoming technologies in the fields of flexible electronics require the cost-efficient fabrication of complex circuitry in a streamlined *** printing techniques such as inkjet printing can enable such applications thanks to their inherent freedom of design permitting the mask-free deposition of multilayer optoelectronic devices without the need for subtracting *** we present an active matrix sensor array comprised of 100 inkjet-printed organic thin film transistors(OTFTs)and organic photodiodes(OPDs)monolithically integrated onto the same ultrathin *** the OTFTs and OPDs exhibited high-fabrication yield and state-of-the-art performance after the integration *** scaling of the OPDs,we achieved integrated pixels with power consumptions down to 50 nW at one of the highest sensitivities reported to date for an all-organic integrated ***,we demonstrated the application potential of the active matrix by static and dynamic spatial sensing of optical signals.

Design of DSTATCOM Controller for Compensating Unbalances

In a three phase power system, the voltages at the generation side are in sinusoidal and equal in magnitude with 120? phase difference between the phases. However, at the load side voltages may become unbalanced due to unequal voltage magnitudes at the fundamental frequency, phase angle deviations or unequal distribution of single phase loads. The voltage unbalance is a major power quality issue, because a small unbalance in the phase voltages can cause a larger unbalance in the phase currents. A completely balanced three-phase three wire system contains only positive sequence components of voltage, current and impedance, whereas unbalanced system contains both positive and negative sequence components of voltages and currents. The negative sequence component of current in the unbalanced system increases the temperature and losses in the equipments. Hence, it is necessary to mitigate this problem by supplying the negative sequence current to the load at the load side and keep the source side balanced. This paper proposes the shunt connected, current injecting Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator (DSTATCOM) with appropriate controller to mitigate the unbalanced load current. The symmetrical components based Hysteresis Current Controller (HCC) is designed for DSTATCOM to diminish the unbalances in a three-phase three-wire system. The performance of the controller is studied by simulating the entire system in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The DSTATCOM with HCC is found to be better than other controllers because it is suitable for compensating both balanced and unbalanced loads.
