Dicyphus maroccanus Wagner and Nesidiocoris tenuis Reuter （Hemiptera： Miridae） are 2 biological control agents in tomatoes. Through the crop seasons, a natural shift in the occurrence of both mirids in favor ofN. tenuis has been observed at the end of the cropping cycle in eastern Spain. To better optimize their conservation, the reasons for the observed change, such as intraguild interactions （IGP） or the influence of environmental conditions, are worth elucidating. To do this, we first studied the IGP of adult females on heterospecific nymphs in the laboratory. We next studied exploitative competition between adults and nymphs of each species when feeding on Ephestia kueniella Zeller （Lepidoptera： Pyralidae） eggs in the laboratory. Finally, to analyze the competitive displacement between both mirids, we conducted a semifield experiment in which both predators were released together. All experiments were conducted at 2 temperature regimes （20 and 25~C）. Adult- to-nymph intraguild interactions occurred only at 25 ~C at very low levels, showing that N. tenuis attacked and consumed a greater proportion ofheterospecific nymphs. Nesidiocoris tenuis was a better competitor than D. maroccanus when feeding on the shared prey in the presence of its heterospecific nymph at 25 ~C. In semifield conditions, N. tenuis showed a competitive advantage over D. maroccanus at both temperatures. We conclude that there is not direct interference between both species, however, N. tenuis has a greater ability to outcompete, since it is best adapted to higher temperatures and it is able to remove food sources for D. maroccanus.

AIM:To assess:(1)frequency and clinical relevanceof gluten sensitive enteropathy(GSE)detected by serology in a mass screening program;(2)sensitivity of antitransglutaminase(tTGA)and antiendomysium antibodies(Ema);and(3)adherence to gluten-free diet(GFD)and follow-up. METHODS:One thousand,eight hundred and sixtyeight subjects recruited from an occupational health department underwent analysis for tTGA and Ema and, if positive,duodenal biopsy,DQ2/DQ8 genotyping, clinical feature recording,blood tests,and densitometry were ***>98%of individuals had tTGA mality and was considered positive when confirmed twice in the same *** to a GFD and follow up were registered. RESULTS:Twenty-six(1.39%)subjects had positive tTGA and/or Ema,and 21 underwent biopsy:six marsh Ⅲ(oneⅢa,fourⅢb,oneⅢc),nine marshⅠand six marsh 0(frequency of GSE 1:125).The sensitivity of Ema for GSE was 46.6%(11.1%for marshⅠ,100% for marshⅢ),while for tTGA,it was 93.3%(88.8% for marshⅠ,100%for marshⅢ).All 15 patients with abnormal histology had clinical features related to ***ⅠandⅢsubjects had more abdominal pain than marsh 0(P=0.029),and a similar trend was observed for distension and *** differences in the percentage of osteopenia were found between marshⅠandⅢ(P=0.608).Adherence to follow-up was 69.2%.Of 15 GSE patients,66.7%followed a GFD with 80%responding to it. In recent years, there has been an upsurge of interest in enzyme treatment of textile fibres. Enzymes are globular proteins whose catalytic function is due to their three dimensional structure. For this reason, stability strategies make use of compounds that avoid dismantling or distorting protein 3D structures. This study is concerned with the use of microencapsulation techniques to optimize enzyme stabilization. Laccases were embedded in phophatidylcholine liposomes and their encapsulation capacity was assessed. Their enzymatic activity and stability were analyzed, comparing free-enzymes, enzymes in liposomes, and the lipid fraction separated from the aqueous fraction. An increase in their encapsulation efficiency was found at higher lipid/laccase ratios. Relative activity of enzyme-containing vesicles has also been shown to be retained much more than that of free native enzymes. The loss of activity of laccases entrapped in the vesicles in the total stability process is lower than 10% compared with 40% to 60% of loss of free-laccases after heating the samples for 3 days. Laccase stabilization could be of interest to future textile or cosmetic applications because of their potential for environmentally friendly oxidation technologies.

AIM To develop a fast, low-cost diagnostic strategy to identify single point mutations in highly variable genomes such as hepatitis C virus(HCV).METHODS In patients with HCV infection, resistance-associated amino acid substitutions within the viral quasispecies prior to therapy can confer decreased susceptibility to direct-acting antiviral agents and lead to treatment failure and virological relapse. One such naturally occurring mutation is the Q80 K substitution in the HCV-NS3 protease gene, which confers resistance to PI inhibitors, particularly simeprevir. Low-cost, highly sensitive techniques enabling routine detection of these single point mutations would be useful to identify patients at a risk of treatment failure. Light Cycler methods, based on real-time PCR with sequencespecific probe hybridization, have been implemented in most diagnostic laboratories. However, this technique cannot identify single point mutations in highly variable genetic environments, such as the HCV genome. To circumvent this problem, we developed a new method to homogenize all nucleotides present in a region except the point mutation of interest. RESULTS Using nucleotide-specific probes Q, K, and R substitutions at position 80 were clearly identified at a sensitivity of 10%(mutations present at a frequency of at least 10% were detected). The technique was successfully applied to identify the Q80 K substitution in 240 HCV G1 serum samples, with performance comparable to that of direct Sanger sequencing, the current standard procedure for this purpose. The new method was then validated in a Catalonian population of 202 HCV G1-infected individuals. Q80 K was detected in 14.6% of G1 a patients and 0% of G1 b in our setting. CONCLUSION A fast, low-cost diagnostic strategy based on real-time PCR and fluorescence resonance energy transfer probe melting curve analysis has been successfully developed to identify single point mutations in highly variable genomes such as hepatitis C virus. Background:Universal vaccination for hepatitis B virus(HBV)and migratory movements have changed the demographic characteristics of this disease in Spain and in ***,we evaluated the characteristics of the disease and the possible differences according to origin(immigrants vs non-immigrants)and access to ***:This is a multicenter cross-sectional study(June 2014 to may 2015)in which outpatients with a positive HBsAg were seen and followed in four Hepatology *** and clinical data and indication and access to treatment were collected in two different regions of Catalonia(Spain)where there are no barriers to treatment due to a comprehensive coverage under the National Health ***:A total of 951 patients were evaluated(48.1%men).Of these,46.6%were immigrants(58.7%of them were born in Africa)and were significantly younger compared to *** proportions of patients with alcohol consumption,being overweight,and other indicators of metabolic co-morbidities were significantly higher in *** the 937 patients receiving HBeAg examination,91.7%were *** HBeAg-positive infection was significantly higher in immigrants(3.9%vs 0.6%,P=0.001)and chronic HBeAg-negative hepatitis was higher non-immigrants(31.7%vs 21.4%,P<0.001).Not only was the proportion of patients who met treatment criteria significantly higher among nonimmigrants(38.4%vs 29.2%,P=0.003),but also the proportion of those with indication of effectively receiving therapy at the time of data collection(83.2%vs 57.8%,P<0.001).Conclusions:The immigrant population with HBV is younger and has a lower prevalence of metabolic co-morbidities and a higher frequency of chronic HBeAg *** having access to care and an indication for treatment,some do not get adequately treated due to several factors including local adaptation that precludes access to treatment.
