Wildlife trafficking is a global phenomenon posing many negative impacts on socio-environmental *** exploration of wildlife trafficking trends and the impact of interventions is significantly encumbered by a suite of data reuse *** describe a novel,open-access data directory on wildlife trafficking and a corresponding visualization tool that can be used to identify data for multiple purposes,such as exploring wildlife trafficking hotspots and convergence points with other crime,discovering key drivers or deterrents of wildlife trafficking,and uncovering structural *** searches,expert elicitation,and peer-reviewed publications were used to search for extant sources used by industry and non-profit organizations,as well as those leveraged to publish academic research *** open-access data directory is designed to be a living document and searchable according to multiple *** directory can be instrumental in the data-driven analysis of unsustainable illegal wildlife trade,supply chain structure via link prediction models,the value of demand and supply reduction initiatives via multi-item knapsack problems,or trafficking behavior and transportation choices via network interdiction problems.

In vivo radiometric analysis of glucose uptake and distribution in mouse bone

Bone formation and remodeling occurs throughout life and requires the sustained activity of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, particularly during periods of rapid bone growth. Despite increasing evidence linking bone cell activity to global energy homeostasis, little is known about the relative energy requirements or substrate utilization of bone cells. In these studies, we measured the uptake and distribution of glucose in the skeleton in vivo using positron-emitting 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose （[lSF]-FDG） and non-invasive, high-resolution positron emission tomography/computed tomography （PE~/CT） imaging and ex vivo autoradiography. Assessment of [~SF]-FDG uptake demonstrated that relative to other tissues bone accumulated a significant fraction of the total dose of the glucose analog..Skeletal accumulation was greatest in young mice undergoing the rapid bone formation that characterizes early development. PET/CT imaging revealed that [lSF]-FDG uptake was greatest in the epiphyseal and metaphyseal regions of long bones, which accords with the increased osteoblast numbers and activity at this skeletal site. Insulin administration significantly increased skeletal accumulation of [lSF]-FDG, while uptake was reduced in mice lacking the insulin receptor specifically in osteoblasts or fed a high-fat diet. Our results indicated that the skeleton is a site of significant glucose uptake and that its consumption by bone cells is subject to regulation by insulin and disturbances in whole-body metabolism.

Aims Organisms on islands are thought to escape biotic pressure and lose defensive ***,broadscale,evidence-based tests of this idea are *** this study,we asked:(i)whether the proportion of spinescent plant species differed between islands and mainlands and(ii)whether the proportion of spinescent species increased with increasing island area and with decreasing island distance to *** We compiled species lists for 18 island–mainland pairs around *** classified 1129 plant species as spinescent or nonspinescent using published species *** Findings There was no significant difference between the proportion of spinescent species found on islands and on *** of spinescent species were not significantly related to island area or distance to *** results suggest that spinescence is just as important to island plants as it is to mainland plants,even for plants inhabiting small or distal *** is unexpected,given prevailing thought and previous work on island–mainland *** study demonstrates the importance of testing well-accepted yet untested ideas.

Background： Pancreatectomies have been identified as procedures with an increased risk of *** surgical patients, readmissions within 30 days of discharge are usually procedure-related. We sought to determine predictors of 30-day readmission following pancreatic resections in a large healthcare ***： We retrospectively collected information from the records of 383 patients who underwent pancreaticresections from 2004–2013. To find the predictors of readmission in the 30 days after discharge,we performed a univariate screen of possible variables using the Fisher’s exact test for categorical variables and the Mann–Whitney U test for continuous variables. Multivariate analysis was used to determinethe independent factors.

Thrapeutic equivalence in the treatment of hypertension:Can lercanidipine and nifedipine GITS be considered to be interchangeable?

AIM: To undertake a review of the evidence that nifedipine GITS and lercanidipine are therapeutically equivalent in the management of essential ***: A systematic review of the published literature was prompted by the findings of two meta-analyses which indicated that there was a lower incidence of peripheral(ankle) oedema with lercanidipine. However,neither meta-analysis gave detailed attention to comparative antihypertensive efficacy or cardiovascular protection. Accordingly,a systematic,detailed and critical review was undertaken of individual published papers. The review started with those studies incorporated into the 2 meta-analyses and then all other salient and directly relevant papers identified through the following search criteria: all randomized controlled trials in which the therapeutic profile and antihypertensive effects of lercanidipine were directly compared with those of nifedipine GITS(in hypertensive patients). The searchstrategy was focused on the reports of clinical trials of lercanidipine vs nifedipine GITS,which were identified through a systematic search of PubMed(from 1966 to October 2012),Embase(from 1980 to October 2012) and the Cochrane library(from 1 October 2008 to end October 2013). The search combined terms related to lercanidipine vs nifedipine GITS(including MeSH search using calcium antagonists,calcium channel blockers and dihydropyridines).RESUlTS: With regard to blood pressure(BP) control and the consistency of BP control throughout 24-h,there is limited published evidence. However,two studies using 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring clearly identified the dose-dependency of BP lowering with lercanidipine and its variably sustained 24-h efficacy. In contrast,there is evidence of a consistent antihypertensive effect throughout 24 h with nifedipine GITS. Spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma in type 2B von Willebrand disease

Intramural duodenal hematoma is a rare cause of a proximal gastrointestinal tract *** of intramural duodenal hematoma most often occurs following blunt abdominal trauma in children,but spontaneous non-traumatic cases have been linked to anticoagulant therapy,pancreatitis,malignancy,vasculitis and *** report an unusual case of spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma presenting as an intestinal obstruction associated with acute pancreatitis in a patient with established von Willebrand disease,type *** patient presented with abrupt onset of abdominal pain,nausea,and *** tomography imaging identified an intramural duodenal mass consistent with blood measuring 4.7 cm×8.7 cm in the second portion of the duodenum abutting on the head of the *** lipase was 3828 units/*** was managed conservatively with bowel rest,continuous nasogastric decompression,total parenteral nutrition,recombinant factorⅧ(humateP)and *** resolved over the course of the *** case highlights an important complication of an inherited coagulopathy.
