The presenilin genes(PsEN1 and PsEN2)are mainly responsible for causing early-onset familial Alzheimer’s disease,harboring~300 causative mutations,and representing~90%of all mutations associated with a very aggressive disease *** 1 is the catalytic core of theγ-secretase complex that conducts the intramembranous proteolytic excision of multiple transmembrane proteins like the amyloid precursor protein,Notch-1,N-and E-cadherin,LRP,syndecan,Delta,jagged,CD44,ErbB4,and *** 1 plays an essential role in neural progenitor maintenance,neurogenesis,neurite outgrowth,synaptic function,neuronal function,myelination,and ***,an imbalance caused by mutations in presenilin 1/γ-secretase might cause aberrant signaling,synaptic dysfunction,memory impairment,and increased Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio,contributing to neurodegeneration during the initial stages of Alzheimer’s disease *** review focuses on the neuronal differentiation dysregulation mediated by PsEN1 mutations in Alzheimer’s ***,we emphasize the importance of Alzheimer’s disease-induced pluripotent stem cells models in analyzing PsEN1 mutations implication over the early stages of the Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis throughout neuronal differentiation impairment.

Use of silica nanopowder to accelerate CO_2 sorption by Ca(OH)_2

Promising technologies have recently emerged to capture CO2 from postcombustion flue gas and to enhance the production of hydrogen from natural gas by steam-methane reforming, on the basis of sorp- tion of CO2 by Ca-based powders. The rate of CO2 sorption on Ca-based powders is limited by both carbonation kinetics and transport of CO2 to unreacted sorption sites. Ca-based powders may exhibit cohesive aggregation, thus hindering gas-solids contact efficiency. In our work, we tested the sorption rate of powder samples prepared by dry mixing of a cohesive Ca（OH）2 powder with a silica nanopowder used as additive. The silica nanopowder serves to improve the dispersibility of Ca（OH）2. Consequently, when a CO2 enriched gas and the modified sorbent are brought into contact, the rate of CO2 sorption is enhanced in the initial fast phase of interest for practical applications.

Computer-aided sperm analysis： a useful tool to evaluate patient＇s response to varicocelectomy

Preoperative and postoperative sperm parameter values from infertile men with varicocele were analyzed by computer-aided sperm analysis （CAsA） to assess if sperm characteristics improved after varicocelectomy. semen samples of men with proven fertility （n = 38） and men with varicocele-related infertility （n = 61） were also analyzed. Conventional semen analysis was performed according to WHO （2010） criteria and a CAsA system was employed to assess kinetic parameters and sperm concentration. seminal parameters values in the fertile group were very far above from those of the patients, either before or after surgery. No significant improvement in the percentage normal sperm morphology （P = 0. 10）, sperm concentration （P = 0.52）, total sperm count （P = 0.76）, subjective motility （%）（P = 0.97） nor kinematics （P = 0.30） was observed after varicocelectomy when all groups were compared. Neither was significant improvement found in percentage normal sperm morphology （P = 0.91）, sperm concentration （P =0. 10）, total sperm count （P = 0.89） or percentage motility （P = 0.77） after varicocelectomy in paired comparisons of preoperative and postoperative data. Analysis of paired samples revealed that the total sperm count （P = 0.01） and most sperm kinetic parameters： curvilinear velocity （P = 0.002）, straight-line velocity （P = 0.0004）, average path velocity （P = 0.0005）, linearity （P = 0.02）, and wobble （P = 0.006） improved after surgery. CAsA offers the potential for accurate quantitative assessment of each patient＇s response to varicocelectomy.

Currently, pharmaceutical preparations are serious contributors to liver disease; hepatotoxicity ranking as the most frequent cause for acute liver failure and post-commercialization regulatory decisions. The diagnosis of hepatotoxicity remains a difficult task because of the lack of reliable markers for use in general clinical practice. To incriminate any given drug in an episode of liver dysfunction is a step-by-step process that requires a high degree of suspicion, compatible chronology, awareness of the drug’s hepatotoxic potential, the exclusion of alternative causes of liver damage and the ability to detect the presence of subtle data that favors a toxic etiology. This process is time-consuming and the final result is frequently inaccurate. Diagnostic algorithms may add consistency to the diagnostic process by translating the suspicion into a quantitative score. such scales are useful since they provide a framework that emphasizes the features that merit attention in cases of suspected hepatic adverse reaction as well. Current efforts in collecting bona fide cases of drug-induced hepatotoxicity will make refinements of existing scales feasible. It is now relatively easy to accommodate relevant data within the scoring system and to delete low-impact items. Efforts should also be directed toward the development of an abridged instrument for use in evaluating suspected drug-induced hepatotoxicity at the very beginning of the diagnosis and treatment process when clinical decisions need to be made. The instrument chosen would enable a confident diagnosis to be made on admission of the patient and treatment to be fine-tuned as further information is collected.

With neuron division and neuron budding,a spiking neural P system can generate exponential work space in polynomial time as the case for P systems with active *** this way,spiking neural P systems can efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff,which is illustrated with an efficient solution to sAT problem.
