The potential leaching and mobilization of trace elements from FGD-gypsum of a coal-fired power plant under water re-circulation conditions

Experimental and geochemical modelling studies were carried out to identify mineral and solid phases containing major, minor, and trace elements and the mechanism of the retention of these elements in Flue Gas Desulphurisation（FGD）-gypsum samples from a coal-fired power plant under filtered water recirculation to the scrubber and forced oxidation conditions. The role of the p H and related environmental factors on the mobility of Li, Ni, Zn, As, Se, Mo, and U from FGD-gypsums for a comprehensive assessment of element leaching behaviour were also carried out. Results show that the extraction rate of the studied elements generally increases with decreasing the p H value of the FGD-gypsum leachates. The increase of the mobility of elements such as U, Se, and As in the FGD-gypsum entails the modification of their aqueous speciation in the leachates; Uo2So4, H2 Se, and HAs o2 are the aqueous complexes with the highest activities under acidic *** speciation of Zn, Li, and Ni is not affected in spite of p H changes; these elements occur as free cations and associated to So4 ^2 in the FGD-gypsum leachates. The mobility of Cu and Mo decreases by decreasing the p H of the FGD-gypsum leachates, which might be associated to the precipitation of Cu Se2 and Mo Se2, respectively. Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry of the solid phase combined with geochemical modelling of the aqueous phase has proved useful in understanding the mobility and geochemical behaviour of elements and their partitioning into FGD-gypsum samples.

Background:Universal vaccination for hepatitis B virus(HBV)and migratory movements have changed the demographic characteristics of this disease in Spain and in ***,we evaluated the characteristics of the disease and the possible differences according to origin(immigrants vs non-immigrants)and access to ***:This is a multicenter cross-sectional study(June 2014 to May 2015)in which outpatients with a positive HBsAg were seen and followed in four Hepatology *** and clinical data and indication and access to treatment were collected in two different regions of Catalonia(Spain)where there are no barriers to treatment due to a comprehensive coverage under the National Health ***:A total of 951 patients were evaluated(48.1%men).of these,46.6%were immigrants(58.7%of them were born in Africa)and were significantly younger compared to *** proportions of patients with alcohol consumption,being overweight,and other indicators of metabolic co-morbidities were significantly higher in *** the 937 patients receiving HBeAg examination,91.7%were *** HBeAg-positive infection was significantly higher in immigrants(3.9%vs 0.6%,P=0.001)and chronic HBeAg-negative hepatitis was higher non-immigrants(31.7%vs 21.4%,Pot only was the proportion of patients who met treatment criteria significantly higher among nonimmigrants(38.4%vs 29.2%,P=0.003),but also the proportion of those with indication of effectively receiving therapy at the time of data collection(83.2%vs 57.8%,Ponclusions:The immigrant population with HBV is younger and has a lower prevalence of metabolic co-morbidities and a higher frequency of chronic HBeAg *** having access to care and an indication for treatment,some do not get adequately treated due to several factors including local adaptation that precludes access to treatment.

What is the most effective exercise protocol to improve cardiovascular fitness in overweight and obese subjects？

Background: Increased peak oxygen consumption(Vo2 peak) can reduce cardiovascular risks associated with obesity. our aim was to analyze the effect of a weight loss program on cardiovascular fitness in overweight(W) and obese(o) ***: one hundred and sixty-seven subjects(77 males and 90 females), aged 18–50 years, performed a modified Bruce protocol before(pre)and after(post) a weight loss program of 24 weeks. This program combined physical training(strength, S; endurance, E; combined strength + endurance, SE; or physical activity recommendation, PA) 3 times per week, with a 25%–30% caloric restriction ***: Vo2 peak improved in overweight and obese males(pre and post values in L/min, respectively; W = 3.2 ± 0.6 vs. 3.7 ± 0.5, p o = 3.6 ± 0.6 vs. 3.8 ± 0.6, p = 0.013) as well as in overweight females(2.0 ± 0.3 vs. 2.3 ± 0.4, p o2 peak in the first ventilatory threshold(VT1) increased for all 4 interventions in males(p or S in the obese group(1.6 ± 0.2 vs. 1.7 ± 0.3, p = 0.141). In females, it increased in E(0.9 ± 0.2 vs. 1.4 ± 0.3, p overweight groups. Time-to-exhaustion improved in all subjects except for females in PA group(15.7 ± 0.3 min vs. 15.9 ± 0.3 min, p = 0.495).Conclusion: our results suggest that all methods, including the recommendation of physical activity, can improve cardiovascular fitness in overweight subjects and obese males.

A Multiparameter Colloidal Titrations for the Determination of Cationic Polyelectrolytes

In water treatment processes and conditioning drinking water, PEs are widely used;however, their environmental impact is still doubtful, since residual concentrations increase organic matter content and represents a potential health hazard. This paper demonstrates a multiparametric study of two colloidal titration methods: spectrophotometric and zeta potential end point detection. The first one was optimized to guarantee the accuracy of cationic commercial PE quantification. It includes the indicator dose optimization using analytical criteria for competing equilibria, a calibration curve for two ranges of CPE concentration (1 - 5 ppm and 5 - 100 ppm) and the interference study of flocculant and Sn in the CPE quantification. The second method provides a physicochemical validation of the electric surface phenomena occurring during the colloidal titration and the end point detection. As an additional contribution the zeta potential titration was discussed and proposed as an alternative method for quantifying CPE when the sample is metal free.

We present an interplay of high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy imaging and the corresponding theoretical calculations based on elastic scattering quantum chemistry techniques of the adsorption of a gold-functionalized rosette assembly and its building blocks on a Au(111)surface with the goal of exploring how to fabricate functional 3-D molecular nanostructures on *** supramolecular rosette assembly stabilized by multiple hydrogen bonds has been sublimed onto the Au(111)surface under ultra-high vacuum conditions;the resulting surface nanostructures are distinctly different from those formed by the individual molecular building blocks of the rosette assembly,suggesting that the assembly itself can be transferred intact to the surface by in situ thermal *** unanticipated result will open up new perspectives for growth of complex 3-D supramolecular nanostructures at the vacuum-solid interface.

Nowadays, fat transfer is an accepted technique that has been popularized in clinical practice, during which large volumes of fat are strategically relocated to increase and improve the contour of the body. In the present study, we investigated the histological and morphometric changes after large volumes of fat were grafted within the subcutaneous cellular tissue. An experimental study was designed using four 3-month-old male pigs. one hundred cc of decanted fat tissue was transferred into the right leg. Volume augmentation achieved by auto lipo-injecting within the subcutaneous cellular tissue persisted up to two months. Although there is a reduction in cell number and size, an increased amount of extracellular matrix and the presence of oily cysts and microcalcifications were observed. ong>Conclusion:ong> The volume augmentation, which is achieved by autologous fat transfer in large quantities in subcutaneous cellular tissue, can remain for months.
