Predictive value of positive lymph node ratio in patients with locally advanced gastric remnant cancer

BACKGROUND Traditional lymph node stage(N stage)has limitations in advanced gastric remnant cancer(GRC)patients;therefore,establishing a new predictive stage is *** To explore the predictive value of positive lymph node ratio(LNR)according to clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of locally advanced *** Seventy-four patients who underwent radical gastrectomy and lymphadenectomy for locally advanced GRC were retrospectively *** relationship between LNR and clinicopathological characteristics was *** survival analysis was performed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Cox regression *** Number of metastatic LNs,tumor diameter,depth of tumor invasion,Borrmann type,serum tumor biomarkers,and tumor-node-metastasis(TNM)stage were correlated with LNR stage and N *** analysis revealed that the factors affecting survival included tumor diameter,anemia,serum tumor biomarkers,vascular or neural invasion,combined resection,LNR stage,N stage,and TNM stage(all P<0.05).The median survival time for those with LNR0,LNR1,LNR2 and LNR3 stage were 61,31,23 and 17 mo,respectively,and the differences were significant(P=0.000).Anemia,tumor biomarkers and LNR stage were independent prognostic factors for survival in multivariable analysis(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION The new LNR stage is uniquely based on number of metastatic LNs,with significant prognostic value for locally advanced GRC,and could better differentiate overall survival,compared with N stage.

Azocalixarenes: a scaffold of universal excipients with high efficiency

Excipients are important components of pharmaceutical preparations that affect their quality, safety, and efficacy. Macrocyclic receptors are a family of supramolecular excipients with several advantages, including molecular-level protection, small sizes,fast kinetics of host-guest recognition, and modular construction. With the continuous advances in the medical field, personalized and precision medicine requires the development of excipients with low dosages, integrated modifying effects, universality,and controlled release. To meet these requirements, we have developed a new family of macrocyclic excipients based on calixarenes by integrating their covalent(broad chemical design space) and noncovalent(wide range of substrates) ***, azocalixarenes(Azo CAs) were designed, showing high binding affinities to a broad spectrum of active pharmaceutical ingredients(APIs), selectivity to interferents, and responsiveness to hypoxic microenvironments. Due to their highly efficient and controllable recognition, Azo CAs serve as low-dose excipients for 30 APIs. Molecular encapsulation by Azo CAs results in the integrated modification of the physicochemical properties of APIs, including solubility, stability, bioavailability,and biocompatibility. Moreover, Azo CAs can be reduced by azoreductases overexpressed in hypoxic microenvironments,leading to the controlled release of APIs. Collectively, Azo CA excipients have broad application prospects for a series of diseases such as enteritis, arthritis, stroke, cancer, bacterial infection and kidney injury, with diverse therapeutic modalities,including chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, immunotherapy, boron neutron capture therapy, radiotherapy, fluorescence imaging, and their combinations.

Regulating ion transport behaviors toward dendrite-free potassium metal batteries:recent advances and perspectives

With abundant potassium resources and high capacity,potassium metal batteries(PMBs)present a compelling option for the next generation of energy storage ***,PMBs suffer from an unstable anode interface caused by uncontrolled dendrite growth,which results in unsatisfactory cyclability and safety *** investigations suggest that significant progress has been made in enhancing the interfacial stability of *** various effective strategies for stabilizing interfaces can ultimately be attributed to the regulation of the sluggish ion transfer kinetics and irregular deposition,i.e.,the arrangement of ion transport behaviors at the *** modulation of ions transport rate and ions deposition directions makes it possible to obtain a dendrite-free and smooth deposition ***,the influencing factors and action mechanism of K^(+)interface transport behaviors are discussed to understand the nature of material design for constructing stable anode interfaces,including regulating the solvation and desolvation structures,accelerating K^(+)transport kinetics and controlling K^(+)deposition *** addition,the deficiencies and prospects of the research on electrolyte,separators and designed electrode involved in the manufacturing and testing and ion transport process of PMBs are *** review is expected to provide some possible directions for constructing dendrite-free interfaces in advanced PMBs-related research and offer significant insights for prospective experimental research and commercial applications.

This study presents experimental evidence of the dependence of non-radiative recombination processes on the electron-phonon coupling of perovskite in perovskite solar cells(PSCs).Via A-site cation engineering,a weaker electron-phonon coupling in perovskite has been achieved by introducing the structurally soft cyclohexane methylamine(CMA^(+))cation,which could serve as a damper to alleviate the mechanical stress caused by lattice oscillations,compared to the rigid phenethyl methylamine(PEA^(+))*** demonstrates a significantly lower non-radiative recombination rate,even though the two types of bulky cations have similar chemical passivation effects on perovskite,which might be explained by the suppressed carrier capture process and improved lattice geometry *** resulting PSCs achieve an exceptional power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 25.5%with a record-high opencircuit voltage(V_(OC))of 1.20 V for narrow bandgap perovskite(FAPbI_(3)).The established correlations between electron-phonon coupling and non-radiative decay provide design and screening criteria for more effective passivators for highly efficient PSCs approaching the Shockley-Queisser limit.

Hydroxyapatite/palmitic acid superhydrophobic composite coating on AZ31 magnesium alloy with both corrosion resistance and bacterial inhibition

The coating-modified magnesium(Mg)alloys exhibit controllable corrosion resistance,but the insufficient antibacterial performance limits their clinical applications as degradable *** coatings show excellent performance in terms of both corrosion resistance and inhibition of bacterial adhesion and *** this work,a hydroxyapatite(HA)/palmitic acid(PA)superhydrophobic composite coating was fabricated on the Mg alloy by the hydrothermal technique and immersion *** HA/PA composite coating showed superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of 153°and a sliding angle of 2°.The coated Mg alloy exhibited excellent corrosion resistance in the simulated body fluid,with high polarization resistance(77.10 kΩ·cm^(2))and low corrosion current density((0.491±0.015)μA·cm^(-2)).Meanwhile,the antibacterial efficiency of the composite coating was over 98% against *** and *** in different *** results indicate that the construction of such superhydrophobic composite coating(HA/PA)on the Mg alloy can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy implants within the human body and avoid bacterial infection during the initial stages of implantation.

Human Notum(hNotum)inhibitors could be used for treating Wnt signalling-associated diseases including colorectal ***,two series of chalcone derivatives were designed and synthesized aiming to find selective and potent hNotum ***–activity relationship(SAR)studies showed that 2-methoxyl and 5-bromine substitutions on A-ring significantly enhanced anti-hNotum effect,while 4’-ethoxyl and 3’-alkyl substitutions on B-ring were beneficial for hNotum *** all tested chalcones,B11 displayed the most potent anti-Notum effect(IC_(50)=3.6 nmol/L),good selectivity,excellent chemical stability and suitable metabolic *** investigations showed that B11 acted as a competitive inhibitor of hNotum,while this agent(5μmol/L)significantly weaken the migration abilities of colorectal cancer ***,this study deciphers the SARs of chalcones as hNotum inhibitors and reports a novel and potent hNotum inhibitor with the anti-migration effect on colorectal cancer cells,which offers a promising lead compound to develop novel anti-cancer agents.

Skeletal muscle plays a vital role in the regulation of systemic metabolism,partly through its secretion of endocrine factors which are collectively known as *** myokine levels are associated with metabolic diseases,such as type 2 diabetes(T2D).The significance of interorgan crosstalk,particularly through myokines,has emerged as a fundamental aspect of nutrient and energy ***,a comprehensive understanding of myokine biology in the setting of obesity and T2D remains a major chal*** this review,we discuss the regulation and biological functions of key myokines that have been extensively studied during the past two decades,namely interleukin 6(IL-6),irisin,myostatin(MSTN),growth differentiation factor 11(GDF11),fibroblast growth factor 21(FGF21),apelin,brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),meteorin-like(Metrnl),secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine(SPARC),β-aminoisobutyric acid(BAIBA),Musclin,and Dickkopf 3(Dkk3).Related to these,we detail the role of exercise in myokine expression and secretion together with their contributions to metabolic physiology and *** significant advancements in myokine research,many myokines remain challenging to measure accurately and investigate ***,new research techniques and detection methods should be developed and rigorously ***,developing a comprehensive perspective on myokine biology is crucial,as this will likely offer new insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying obesity and T2D and may reveal novel targets for therapeutic interventions.

The Internet of Things(IoT)access controlmechanism may encounter security issues such as single point of failure and data *** address these issues,a blockchain-based IoT reputation value attribute access control scheme is ***,writing the reputation value as an attribute into the access control policy,and then deploying the access control policy in the smart contract of the blockchain system can enable the system to provide more fine-grained access control;Secondly,storing a large amount of resources fromthe Internet of Things in Inter Planetary File System(IPFS)to improve system throughput;Finally,map resource access operations to qualification tokens to improve the performance of the access control *** simulation experiments based on the Hyperledger Fabric *** simulation experimental results,it can be seen that the access control system can achieve more fine-grained and dynamic access control while maintaining high throughput and low time delay,providing sufficient reliability and security for access control of IoT devices.

Investigation on vehicle occupant dummy applicability for under-foot impactloading conditions

Purpose:Under-foot impact loadings can cause serious lower limb injuries in many activities,such asautomobile collisions and underbody explosions to military *** present study aims to comparethe biomechanical responses of the mainstream vehicle occupant dummies with the human body lowerlimb model and analyze their robustness and applicability for assessing lower limb injury risk in underfoot impact loading ***:The Hybrid III model,the test device for human occupant restraint(THOR)model,and a hybridhuman body model with the human active lower limb model were adopted for under-foot impactanalysis regarding different impact velocities and initial lower limb ***:The results show that the 2 dummy models have larger peak tibial axial force and highersensitivity to the impact velocities and initial postures than the human lower limb *** particular,the Hybrid III dummy model presented extremely larger peak tibial axial forces than the human lowerlimb *** the case of minimal difference in tibial axial force,Hybrid III's tibial axial force(7.5 KN)isstill 312.5%that of human active lower limb's(2.4 KN).Even with closer peak tibial axial force values,thebiomechanical response curve shapes of the THOR model show significant differences from the humanlower limb ***:Based on the present results,the Hybrid III dummy cannot be used to evaluate the lowerlimb injury risk in under-foot loading *** contrast,potential improvement in ankle biofidelity and related soft tissues of the THOR dummy can be implemented in the future for betterapplicability.
