Design of artificial biomimetic channels with Na+permeation rate and selectivity potentially outperforming the natural sodium channel

Artificial ion channels that enable high-efficiency ion transport have important implications in nanofluidics and biomedical applications such as drug ***,we show a simulation-based chemical design of a biomimetic sodium channel that possesses permeation rate and selectivity potentially higher than those of the state-of-the-art natural vertebrate voltage-gated sodium ***,our theoretical findings have undergone empirical testing,aligning well with the Arrhenius law as derived from a diverse range of experimental *** high-efficiency ion transport is achieved by anchoring the carboxylate functional groups within the channel filter.A key chemical guiding principle underlying the ion channel design is that the free-energy barrier for the Na+passage across the channel should be comparable to typical thermal energy at room *** the implementation of the chemical design,we found that the relatively low free-energy barrier can be attributed to the compensation effect of the carboxylate groups to the partially lost oxygen shell of the ion within the ion channel,as well as to the consonant vibration of the ions inside and outside the *** mechanistic understanding brings new insight,at the molecular level,into the high-efficiency ion transport across the designed membrane *** proof of principle achieved from the simulations will stimulate future experimental confirmation and potential applications of the high-performance artificial channels in nanofluidics and in bioinspired iontronics.

Alcohothermal synthesis of sulfidated zero-valent iron for enhanced Cr(Ⅵ)removal

Sulfidation of zero-valent iron(ZVI)has attracted broad attention in recent years for improving the sequestration of contaminants from ***,sulfidated ZVI(S-ZVI)is mostly synthesized in the aqueous phase,which usually causes the formation of a thick iron oxide layer on the ZVI surface and hinders the efficient electron transfer to the *** this study,an alcohothermal strategy was employed for S-ZVI synthesis by the one-step reaction of iron powder with elemental *** is found that ferrous sulfide(FeS)with high purity and fine crystallization was formed on the ZVI surface,which is extremely favorable for electron ***(Ⅵ)removal experiments confirm that the rate constant of SZVI synthesized by the alcohothermal method was 267.1-and 5.4-fold higher than those of un-sulfidated ZVI and aqueous-phase synthesized S-ZVI,*** characterizations proved that Cr(Ⅵ)was reduced and co-precipitated on S-ZVI in the form of a Fe(Ⅲ)/Cr(Ⅲ)/Cr(Ⅵ)composite,suggesting its environmental benignancy.

Progress on gas-solid phase photoreactor and its application in CO2 reduction

The burgeoning field of photocatalytic reduction of CO2has emerged as a remarkable promising solution to address some of the most pressing global energy and environmental issues which we face today. Researchers around the global have been striving to augment the efficiency of CO2photocatalytic reduction, employing strategies that range from modifying the fundamental properties of photocatalysts to suppress the electron-hole recombination, optimizing reaction conditions to achieve the highest yield, and conceptualizing and constructing photoreactors to improve the adsorption process. Among these factors, the photoreactor plays a critical role in enhancing the overall photocatalytic efficiency. Understanding the various types of photoreactors and their operational dynamic can significantly influence the experimental design, thus guiding the data collecting and analysis. Compared to the solid-liquid phase, gas-solid phase photocatalytic reduction of CO2is gaining recognition for its potential advantages, such as rapid molecular diffusion rates, adjustable CO2concentrations, and uniform and sufficient light exposure. Nonetheless, the currently reported gas-solid phase photoreactors are still in their infancy. In this review, we dissect the underlying mechanism of photocatalytic CO2reduction and the performance evaluation criteria of photoreactors, and review the development process of gas-solid phase photoreactors. Furthermore, we explore the evolution of gas-solid phase photoreactors, elucidating their growth trajectory and future possibilities. We present a comprehensive classification of gas-solid phase photoreactors,offering a new insight into their design and functionality, summarizing their strengths and inevitable ***, we provide a forward-looking perspective on the future developmental prospects of carbon neutrality.

Knowledge about the seismic elastic modulus dispersion,and associated attenuation,in fluid-saturated rocks is essential for better interpretation of seismic observations taken as part of hydrocarbon identification and time-lapse seismic surveillance of both conventional and unconventional reservoir and overburden performances.A Seismic Elastic Moduli Module has been developed,based on the forced-oscillations method,to experimentally investigate the frequency dependence of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio,as well as the inferred attenuation,of cylindrical samples under different confining pressure *** with three standard samples showed that the measured elastic moduli were consistent with the published data,indicating that the new apparatus can operate reliably over a wide frequency range of f∈[1-2000,10^(6)]*** Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of the shale and the tight sandstone samples were measured under axial stress oscillations to assess the frequency-and pressure-dependent *** dry condition,both samples appear to be nearly frequency independent,with weak pressure dependence for the shale and significant pressure dependence for the *** particular,it was found that the tight sandstone with complex pore microstructure exhibited apparent dispersion and attenuation under brine or glycerin saturation conditions,the levels of which were strongly influenced by the increased effective *** addition,the measured Young's moduli results were compared with the theoretical predictions from a scaled poroelastic model with a reasonably good agreement,revealing that the combined fluid flow mechanisms at both mesoscopic and microscopic scales possibly responsible for the measured dispersion.

Post-traumatic peritendinous adhesion presents a significant challenge in clinical *** study proposes the use of diamond-like carbon(DLC)deposited on polylactic acid(PLA)membranes as a biophysical mechanism for anti-adhesion barrier to encase ruptured tendons in tendon-injured *** results indicate that PLA/DLC composite membrane exhibits more efficient anti-adhesion effect than PLA membrane,with histological score decreasing from 3.12±0.27 to 2.20±0.22 and anti-adhesion effectiveness increasing from 21.61%to 44.72%.Mechanistically,the abundant C=O bond functional groups on the surface of DLC can reduce reactive oxygen species level effectively;thus,the phosphorylation of NF-κB and M1 polarization of macrophages are ***,excessive inflammatory response augmented by M1 macrophage-originated cytokines including interleukin-6(IL-6),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)is largely *** biocompatibility evaluation,PLA/DLC membrane is slowly absorbed within tissue and displays prolonged barrier effects compared to traditional PLA *** studies show the DLC depositing decelerates the release of degradation product lactic acid and its induction of macrophage M2 polarization by interfering esterase and PLA ester bonds,which further delays the fibrosis *** was found that the PLA/DLC membrane possess an efficient biophysical mechanism for treatment of peritendinous adhesion.

Dear Editor,Three dimensional(3D)bioprinted extracellular matrix(ECM)can be used to provide both biochemical and biophysical cues to direct mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)differentiation,and then differentiated cells were isolated for implantation in vivo using surgical ***,the reduced cell activity after cell isolation from 3D constructs and low cell retention in injured sites limit its application[1].Methacrylated gelatin(GelMA)hydrogel has the advantage of fast crosslinking,which could resemble complex architectures of tissue construct in vivo[2].Here,we adopted a noninvasive bioprinting procedure to imitate the regenerative microenvironment that could simultaneously direct the sweat gland(SG)and vascular differentiation from MSCs and ultimately promote the replacement of glandular tissue in situ(Fig.1a).

The modulation of metal-support interfacial interaction is significant but challenging in the design of high-efficiency and high-stability supported ***,we report a synthetic strategy to upgrade Cu-CeO_(2)interfacial interaction by the pyrolysis of mixed metal-organic framework(MOF)*** obtained highly dispersed Cu/CeO_(2)-MOF catalyst via this strategy was used to catalyze water-gas shift reaction(WGSR),which exhibited high activity of 40.5μmolCOgcat^(-1).s^(-1)at 300℃and high stability of about 120 *** on comprehensive studies of electronic structure,pyrolysis strategy has significant effect on enhancing metal-support interaction and then stabilizing interfacial Cu^(+)species under reaction *** Cu^(+)species and generated oxygen vacancies over Cu/CeO_(2)-MOF catalyst played a key role in CO molecule activation and H2O molecule dissociation,*** collaborated closely and then promoted WGSR catalytic performance in comparison with traditio nal supported *** study shall offer a robust approach to harvest highly dispersed catalysts with finely-tuned metal-support interactions for stabilizing the most interfacial active metal species in diverse heterogeneous catalytic reactions.
