Novel approach of crater detection by crater candidate region selection and matrix-pattern-oriented least squares support vector machine

Impacted craters are commonly found on the surface of planets, satellites, asteroids and other solar system bodies. In order to speed up the rate of constructing the database of craters, it is important to develop crater detection algorithms. This paper presents a novel approach to automatically detect craters on planetary surfaces. The approach contains two parts： crater candidate region selection and crater detection. In the first part, crater candidate region selection is achieved by Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi （KLT） detector. Matrix-pattern-oriented least squares support vector machine （MatLSSVM）, as the matrixization version of least square support vector machine （SVM）, inherits the advantages of least squares support vector machine （LSSVM）, reduces storage space greatly and reserves spatial redundancies within each image matrix compared with general LSSVM. The second part of the approach employs MatLSSVM to design classifier for crater detection. Experimental results on the dataset which comprises 160 preprocessed image patches from Google Mars demonstrate that the accuracy rate of crater detection can be up to 88%. In addition, the outstanding feature of the approach introduced in this paper is that it takes resized crater candidate region as input pattern directly to finish crater detection. The results of the last experiment demonstrate that MatLSSVM-based classifier can detect crater regions effectively on the basis of KLT-based crater candidate region selection.

The edge S sites of thermodynamically stable 2H MoS_(2)are active for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)but the active sites are *** the dominance of the basal S sites,they are generally inert to HER because of the low p-band ***,we reported a synergistic combination of phase engineering and NH_(4)^(+) intercalation to promote the HER performance of MoS_(2).The rational combination of 1T and 2H phases raises the p-band center of the basal S sites while the intercalated NH4+ions further optimize and stabilize the electronic band of these *** S sites with regulated band structures afford moderate hydrogen adsorption,thus contributing to excellent HER performance over a wide pH *** an acid medium,this catalyst exhibits a low overpotential of 169 mV at 10 mA·cm^(−2)and Tafel slope of 39 mV·dec^(−1)with robust stability,superior to most of recently reported MoS_(2)-based non-noble *** combined use of in/ex-situ characterizations ravels that the appearance of more unpaired electrons at the Mo 4d-orbital reduces the d-band center which upshifts the p-band center of the adjacent S for essentially improved HER *** work provides guidelines for the future development of layered transition-metal-dichalcogenide catalysts.

The effect of micro-structural uncertainties of recycled aggregate concrete on its global stochastic properties via finite pixel-element Monte Carlo simulation

In this paper, the effect of micro-structural uncertainties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) on its global stochastic elastic properties is investigated via finite pixel-element Monte Carlo simulation. Representative RAC models are randomly generated with various distribution of aggregates. Based on homogenization theory, effects of recycled aggregate replacement rate, aggregate volume fraction, the unevenness of old mortar, proportion of old mortar, aggregate size and elastic modulus of aggregates on overall variability of equivalent elastic properties are investigated. Results are in a good agreement with experimental data in literature and finite pixel-element method saves the computation cost. It is indicated that the effect of mesoscopic randomness on global variability of elastic properties is considerable.

L-Heptopyranoses are important components of bacterial polysaccharides and biological active secondary metabolites like septacidin(SEP),which represents a group of nucleoside antibiotics with antitumor,antifungal,and pain-relief ***,little is known about the formation mechanisms of those L-heptose *** this study,we deciphered the biosynthetic pathway of the L,L-gluco-heptosamine moiety in SEPs by functional characterizing four genes and proposed that SepI initiates the process by oxidizing the 4’-hydroxyl of L-glycero-α-D-manno-heptose moiety of SEP-328(2)to a keto ***,SepJ(C5 epimerase)and SepA(C3 epimerase)shape the 4’-keto-L-heptopyranose moiety by sequential epimerization *** the last step,an aminotransferase SepG installs the 4’-amino group of the L,L-gluco-heptosamine moiety to generate SEP-327(3).An interesting phenomenon is that the SEP intermediates with 4’-keto-L-heptopyranose moieties exist as special bicyclic sugars with hemiacetal-hemiketal ***,L-pyranose is usually converted from D-pyranose by bifunctional C3/C5 *** is an unprecedented monofunctional L-pyranose C3 *** in silico and experimental studies revealed that it represents an overlooked metal dependent-sugar epimerase family bearing vicinal oxygen chelate(VOC)architecture.

Calpastatin participates in the regulation of cell migration in BAP1-deficient uveal melanoma cells

AIM: To detect how BRCA-associated protein 1(BAP1) regulates cell migration in uveal melanoma(UM) cells. METHODS: Wound healing and transwell assays were performed to detect UM cell migration abilities. Protein chip, immunoprecipitations and surface plasmon resonance analyses were applied to identify BAP1 protein partners. Western blot and calpain activity assays were used to test the expression and function of calpastatin(CAST). RESULTS: CAST protein was confirmed as a new BAP1 protein partner, and loss of BAP1 reduced the expression and function of CAST in UM cells. The overexpression of CAST rescued the cell migration phenotype caused by BAP1 ***: BAP1 interacts with CAST in UM cells, and CAST and its subsequent calpain pathway may mediate BAP1-related cell migration regulation.

Primary biliary cholangitis(PBC,formerly known as primary biliary cirrhosis)is a chronic female-predominant inflammatory and cholestatic liver disease with a prolonged course and poor prognosis[1].It is characterized by anti-mitochondrial autoanti-body(AMA),immunoglobulin M and lymphocyte infiltration in the portal area of liver tissue.A recent systemic review has shown a steady rise both in incidence and prevalence of PBC,with 5.31/100000 persons and 40.2/100000 persons,respectively[2].It can cause fatigue,pruritus and is associated with a high risk of cirrhosis and liver failure if left untreated[3].The pathogenesis of PBC may be related to genetic,environmental,immune factors and individual susceptibility,but the specific etiology is not *** previous studies[4,5]have found that gut microbiota plays an important role in a variety of liver diseases,including *** bidirectional crosstalk between liver and microbiome appears to be crucial in maintaining health and could be therapeutically targeted,such as by fecal microbiota transplantation.

OsNAC5 orchestrates OsABI5 to fine-tune cold tolerance in rice

Due to its tropical origins,rice(Oryza sativa)is susceptible to cold stress,which poses severe threats to ***5,a NAC-type transcription factor,participates in the cold stress response of rice,but the detailed mechanisms remain poorly ***,we demonstrate that OsNAC5 positively regulates cold tolerance at germination and in seedlings by directly activating the expression of ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 5(OsABI5).Haplotype analysis indicated that single nucleotide polymorphisms in a NAC-binding site in the OsABI5 promoter are strongly associated with cold ***5 also enhanced OsABI5 stability,thus regulating the expression of cold-responsive(COR)genes,enabling fine-tuned control of OsABI5 action for rapid,precise plant responses to cold *** affinity purification sequencing coupled with transcriptome deep sequencing identified several OsABI5 target genes involved in COR expression,including DEHYDRATION-RESPONSIVE ELEMENT BINDING FACTOR 1A(OsDREB1A),OsMYB20,and PEROXIDASE 70(OsPRX70).In vivo and in vitro analyses suggested that OsABI5 positively regulates COR gene transcription,with marked COR upregulation in OsNAC5-overexpressing lines and downregulation in osnac5 and/or osabi5 knockout *** study extends our understanding of cold tolerance regulation via OsNAC5 through the OsABI5-CORs transcription module,which may be used to ameliorate cold tolerance in rice via advanced breeding.

How does a strong surrounding magnetic field influence the evolution of a supernova remnant?

We simulate the evolution of supernova remnants(SNRs) in a strong magnetic field. Usually,supernovae explode in a normal interstellar medium with magnetic field of no more than 50 μG, which has been well studied. However, the surrounding magnetic field will be much stronger in some situations, such as in a galactic center. Therefore, we try to explore these situations. The simulations show that a strong magnetic field of 1 mG will align the motion of ejecta in a way similar to a jet. The ejecta propagating perpendicularly to the magnetic field will be reflected and generate a strong reverse shock. When the reverse shock converges in the explosion center, it will more or less flow along the central magnetic field. Finally,most of the ejecta will propagate parallel to the magnetic field.
