Recent publication of the global epidemiology of clonorchiasis and its relationship with cholangiocarcinoma in the journal of Infectious Diseases of Poverty has stressed the importance of Clonorchis sinensis *** further demonstrate its threat on public health,especially in China,comparisons between clonorchiasis and hepatitis B are made in terms of epidemiology,clinical symptoms and carcinogenicity,disability,as well as changing ***,major problems and prioritized researches are argued,from basic biology to *** between the majority of infected population and the minority of researches in China urges for more work from Chinese scientists and international cooperation.

This paper reviews the epidemiological status and characteristics of clonorchiasis at global level and the etiological relationship between Clonorchis sinensis infection and cholangiocarcinoma(CCA).A conservative estimation was made that 15 million people were infected in the world in 2004,of which over 85%distributed in *** epidemiology of clonorchiasis is characterized by rising trend in its prevalence,variability among sexes and age,as well as endemicity in different *** data indicate that *** infection is carcinogenic to human,and it is predicted that nearly 5000 CCA cases attributed to *** infection may occur annually in the world decades later,with its overall odds ratio of *** is becoming one major public health problem in east Asia,and it is worthwhile to carry out further epidemiological studies.

To the Editor： In recent Chinese Medical Journal, Sheng et al. reported a case with diffuse parenchymal lung diseases, which was believed to be attributed to the infection of liver fluke Clonorchis sinensis. However after careful check of the available evidences in this case, we think the case was more probably caused by the infection of lung fluke Paragonimus spp.

Significant disease burden is caused by infections with human liver flukes, includingClonorchis sinensis,Opisthorchis viverrini andO. felineus. Epidemiology is characterized by high burden in the male than the female, and in the elder than the younger. Chemotherapy is the mainstream for morbidity control, but it could not prevent re-infection. Mean-while, behavioral change on the dietary habit of ingesting raw freshwater fish is challenging. In this opinion, we argue why it is important to educate children for sustainable control of liver fluke infections. Then, the design, development and key messages of an educational cartoon for preventing liver fluke infections is introduced. Technical focuses are emphasized based on a pilot using the education cartoon for preventing clonorchiasis in China. Finally, how to further develop and verify this education strategy is discussed.

The term neglected tropical diseases(NTDs)was coined about 15 years ago because this group of diseases is predominantly endemic in tropical and subtropical areas and neglected in research and control compared to HIV/AIDS,tuberculosis,and malaria(1–2).Thus,compared to the early establishment of World Days for“the big three diseases”,namely HIV/AIDS,tuberculosis,and malaria in 1988,1995,and 2007,respectively,Jan 30,2020 has just designated as the first World NTDs Day with the slogan of“Beat NTDs:For *** all”(3).

Echinococcosis is a neglected zoonotic disease,causing great morbidity and mortality due to the wide distribution of its endemic *** holds a high percentage in the global burden of both cystic and alveolar echinococcosis.A national survey conducted between 2012 and 2016 showed that an estimated 50 million people are at risk of contracting the disease in western China,of whom about 0.17 million are cases with *** this,research and development on echinococcosis in China is greatly inadequate compared to that in other *** this paper,we argue that there is a need for more research and work to be conducted in China on echinococcosis,including researching techniques in regards to diagnosis,treatment,and vaccination,and developing products through technical transformation and piloting strategies to control and even ***,great opportunities exist for China to strengthen the research and development on this disease through initiatives such as Health China 2030,the Belt and Road Initiative,the China-Africa cooperation,as well as through further cooperation between China and the World Health *** of these can bring us closer to controlling echinococcosis in China as well as in other *** element of crucial importance will be the training and development of professionals,which can be strengthened through international cooperation.
