Bactrocera tryoni and Bactrocera neohumeralis are morphologically similar sibling pest fruit fly species that possess different biological attributes,geographic distributions,and host *** need to differentiate between the two species is critical for accurate pest status assessment,management,biosecurity,and maintenance of reference *** morphologically similar,adults may be separated based on subtle characters;however,some characters exhibit intraspecific variability,creating overlap between the two ***,there is currently no single molecular marker or rapid diagnostic assay that can reliably distinguish between *** and ***;therefore,ambiguous samples remain *** we report the first molecular marker that can consistently distinguish between *** and *** diagnostic region consists of two adjacent single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)within the pangolin(pan)gene *** confirmed the genotypes of each species are consistent across their distributional range,then developed a tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS)PCR assay for rapid diagnosis of the *** assay utilizes four primers in multiplex,with two outer universal primers,and two internal primers:one designed to target two adjacent SNPs(AA)present in *** and the other targeting adjacent SNPs present in ***(GG).The assay accurately discriminates between the two species,but their SNP genotypes are shared with other nontarget tephritid fruit fly ***,this assay is most suited to adult diagnostics where species confirmation is necessary in determining ambiguous surveillance trap catches;maintaining pure colony lines;and in Sterile Insect Technique management responses.

Shared decision-making(SDM)occurs when patients,families and clinicians consider patients’values and preferences alongside the best medical evidence and partner to make the best decision for a given patient in a specific *** is increasingly promoted within Western contexts and is also being explored outside such settings,including in *** and tools to promote SDM can improve patients’knowledge/understanding,participation in the decision-making process,satisfaction and trust in the healthcare *** has also proposed long-term benefits to patients,clinicians,organisations and healthcare *** successfully perform SDM,clinicians must know their patients’values and goals and the evidence underlying different diagnostic and treatment *** is relevant for decisions throughout stroke care,from thrombolysis to goals of care,diagnostic assessments,rehabilitation strategies,and secondary stroke *** physician,patient,family,cultural and system barriers to SDM *** to overcome these barriers and facilitate SDM include clinician motivation,patient participation,adequate time and tools to support the process,such as decision *** research about SDM in stroke care is lacking,decision aids are available for select decisions,such as anticoagulation for stroke prevention in atrial *** research is needed regarding both cultural aspects of successful SDM and application of SDM to stroke-specific contexts.

Filter socks frequently are used for erosion and sediment perimeter control during oil and gas development activities in the Appalachian Basin of the United *** specify the use of composted wood material for sock *** specification,as opposed to non-composted or fresh wood chips(woods-run),has created inefficiencies during well site *** than use fresh wood chips created during site construction,composted chips must be procured and used as filter sock media for erosion and sedimentation *** woods-run chips could be used as filter sock media instead of composted chips,there could be a significant reduction in energy/capital costs,truck traffic,and disposal *** primary objective of this research project was to compare the effectiveness of woodsrun material versus traditionally composted wood chips in controlling sediment transport as well as other chemical and physical parameters in a laboratory *** significant differences in pH(5.96 versus 6.02) or conductivity(0.029 dS/m versus 0.035 dS/m) were found in sediment laden water filtered through woods-run versus composted chips,***,chip particle sizes were outside the allowable limits for composted sock media,and moisture content also was outside the specified limits for woods-run ***(NO) concentrations were significantly higher in woods-run,while phosphorus(P) and potassium(k) concentrations were greater in composted chips;however none of the N,P,or k concentrations were above the regulatory ***,no difference in the filtering efficiency or time was found between woods-run and composted *** laboratory results indicate that current regulations allowing the use of woods-run chips in all but the highest quality watersheds is justified.

Surrogate Measures to Assess Mobility of People as a Resilience Indicator in Disaster Management: An Exploratory Study in Southeastern Sri Lanka

Understanding social resilience can assist in the formulation of disaster management policies to help communities better prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. However, direct social resilience measurement methods such as household surveys are not always a practical option as they are a time-and resource-exhaustive process. Existing measures mainly utilize publicly available census data, which often provide a poor and outdated assessment of current social resilience status. Another limitation includes a failure to capture multiple facets of indicators that are process-oriented and dynamic in nature such as mobility of people. These challenges can be addressed by employing a surrogate approach. Surrogates are alternative measures to depict the target indicator. The surrogate approach can capture key facets of a target indicator, which can be used as potential measures for the target indicator. A framework to conceptualize the surrogate approach is presented, and operationalized using a case study approach on the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka to identify surrogates to measure mobility of people as a resilience indicator. Six higher-order themes were identi-fied as potential surrogates to measure mobility of people in a disaster context. The approach proposed to methodically identify potential surrogates and their measurement protocols can help to improve the current knowledge base and understanding of complex interrelationships of social resilience.

Decidual natural killer （dNk） cells express an array of activation receptors to regulate placental immunity and development during early pregnancy. We investigated the functional character of human dNk cells during the first and second trimester of gestation and the interaction between dNk and trophoblast cells. Although the frequency of CD56＋CD16-dNk among the total CD45＋ leukocytes did not change over this period, the expression of the activating receptors, Nkp80 and NkG2D, was greatly upregulated. We observed a significantly higher number of extravillous trophoblast cells in proximity to the dNk cells in the first trimester in comparison with the second trimester decidua. NkG2D expression by first trimester dNk cells was decreased when co-cultured with the HTR-8 trophoblast cell line. In the second trimester, functional markers of dNk activation, i.e., angiogenic factor production （e.g., vascular endothelial growth factor, interleukin-8, interferon-gamma）, remained stable despite an increase in Nkp80 or NkG2D surface expression. Furthermore, the degranulation capacity of dNk cells, as assessed by CD107a, was decreased in the second trimester. We suggest that in the first trimester, trophoblast-dNk interactions generate a population of dNk cells with a suppressed activating phenotype. In the second trimester, the loss of trophoblast-dNk interactions led to the inhibition of dNk cell function, although their activating receptor expression was increased. We speculate that during pregnancy, two mechanisms operate to modulate the dNk cell activation：suppression of activating receptor levels in the first trimester by trophoblasts and disengagement of receptor-ligand coupling in the second trimester.

AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(P<0.02)and those from the Visayas(P<0.003).Based on the International Retinoblastoma Staging System,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.
