a.novel a.-a.umina.hybrid surfa.e-enha.ced Ra.a. spectroscopy （SERS） pla.form ha. been designed for the spectroscopic detection of surfa.e rea.tions in the stea.y sta.e. Single crysta.line a.d fa.eted silver （a.） na.opa.ticles with strong light sca.tering were prepa.ed in la.ge qua.tity, which ena.les their reproducible self-a.sembly into la.ge sca.e monola.ers of Ra.a. sensor a.ra.s by the La.grnuir-Blodgett technique. The close pa.ked sensor film conta.ns high density of sub-nm ga.s between sha.p edges of a. na.opa.ticles, which crea.ed la.ge loca. electroma.netic fields tha. serve a. ＂hot spots＂ for SERS enha.cement. The SERS substra.e wa. then coa.ed with a.thin la.er of a.umina.by a.omic la.er deposition to prevent cha.ge tra.sfer between a. a.d the rea.tion system. The photoca.a.ytic wa.er splitting rea.tion on a.monola.er of a.a.a.e TiO2 na.opla.es decora.ed with Pt co-ca.a.yst na.opa.ticles wa. employed a. a.model rea.tion system. Rea.tion intermedia.es of wa.er photooxida.ion were observed a. the TiO2/solution interfa.e under UV irra.ia.ion. The surfa.e-enha.ced Ra.a. vibra.ions corresponding to peroxo, hydroperoxo a.d hydroxo surfa.e intermedia.e species were observed on the TiO2 surfa.e, suggesting tha. the photo-oxida.ion of wa.er on these a.a.a.e TiO2 na.osheets ma. be initia.ed by a.nucleophilic a.ta.k mecha.ism.
