Short-term outcomes after the loading phase of intravitreal bevacizumab and subthreshold macular laser in non-center involved diabetic macular edema

AIM： To compare the effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab and subthreshold macular photocoagulation （SMP）, for the treatment of non-center involved diabetic macular edema （non-CI DME）. METHODS： Prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study included patients with type 2 diabetes, non-CI DME and best-corrected visual acuity （BCVA） of 0.30 logMAR or better. Each eye was randomized into three groups： group 1, monthly intravitreal bevacizumab; group 2, single SMP; group 3, single SMP and monthly bevacizumab. Main outcome measures were BCVA, and macular thickness measured with optical coherence tomography as macular central subfield thickness （CST）, macular area of greater thickness （MAGT） and total macular volume （TMV）. Results were analyzed after 3mo. RESULTS： A total of 32 eyes were included. Group 3 improved in BCVA （0.19±0.16 to 0.12±0.14 logMAR; P=0.041） and in TMV （7.90±0.57 to 7.65±0.73 mm3; P=0.025）. Group 1 improved in MAGT （325±26.26 to 298.20±44.85 μm; P=0.022） and TMV （7.79±0.57 to 7.50±0.56 mm3, P=0.047）. Group 2 didn’t show significant improvement of any variable. CONCLUSION： The loading phase of bevacizumab as monotherapy or combined with SMP is superior to SMP as monotherapy in providing short-term visual and anatomical improvement in non-CI DME.

苹果酸脱氢酶(MDH)广泛存在于动物、植物以及微生物体内,是生物体进行糖代谢的关键酶之一。在辅酶Ⅰ(NAD^+)或辅酶Ⅱ(NADP^+)的作用下,能够催化草酰乙酸和苹果酸之间相互转化。虽然目前真核微生物中MDH已被广泛研究,但是对原核生物中的这种酶却鲜有报道。因此,有必要对MDH的相关研究信息进行综述,以期更好地了解这种酶的功能。本文综述了细菌相关研究的各种数据信息,进一步挖掘MDH的分子多样性,包括分子量、低聚态、辅因子与底物的结合力,以及酶反应方向的差异等。通过对不同细菌来源的MDH的晶体结构的分析,可鉴别底物与辅因子结合的部位以及形成二聚体的重要残基。对这些结构信息的了解将有利于指导研究人员对酶的结构进行修饰从而提高其催化能力,比如增加酶的活性、辅助因子的结合能力、底物特异性和热稳定性等。另外,本文通过分析比较MDH系统发生树的重建,将其蛋白超家族分成两个主分支,同时在古生菌、细菌和真核微生物等不同细胞的MDH之间建立联系。

Al-Sn alloys were produced by the induction melting method with different Bi additions. Microstructure shows grains 130 μm average size. Fracture toughness and hardness tests have shown that ternary alloying elements present significantly affected the samples with Bi alloying. Plastic deformation was evaluated by using the forging test;the results have shown that the addition of 3.5 at.% Bi increased the value at least twice as compared with unalloyed sample. Wear test indicated that bismuth slightly affected the tribological behavior. It was found that a concentration of 3.0 at.% Bi, considerably enhances the alloys performance.

Dystrophin is a membrane-associated protein responsible for structural stability of the sarcolem-ma in cardiac myocytes and is very sensitive to ischemic *** goal of our study was to determine if ischemic preconditioning could prevent dystrophin breakdown through inhibition of matrix metalloprotein-ase-2(MMP-2)*** rabbit hearts were subjected to global ischemia with or without reperfusion in order to evaluate if dystrophin is preserved by ischemic preconditioning through MMP-2 *** preconditioning significantly reduced the infarct size induced by 30 min of ischemia and 180 min of ***,it also diminished dystrophin proteolysis and attenuated MMP-2 activity after 30 min ***,our study shows a novel protective role of ischemic preconditioning as a mechanism of preservation of plasma membrane integrity by inhibiting MMP-2 activation.

Context: Preliminary screening has been undertaken by woody species of Tamaulipan thornscrub for wood density and its utilization northeastern Mexico for different purposes and to find possible relationship of density with wood fibre characteristics. This technique can be used in the selection of species with high wood density for possible utility. Aims: It is to determine the variability in wood density and in fiber cell morphology and its length and among wood species of the Tamaulipan thornscrub, northeastern Mexico. Methods: Wood density and wood fibres are characterized in these woody species following standard methodology. Results: The results reveal large variability in wood density and in fibre cell morphology h. The species have been classified on the basis of wood density and its fibber cell morphology and has been recommended for their possible utilization for different purposes. Conclusions: Species desirable for strong furniture making, paper pulp, soft furniture, fence etc. can be selected on the basis of fibre length to breadth ratios as strong fibres for furniture and fibre cells with broad lumen and thin cell wall use for fabrication of paper pulp and other utilities.

The aim of this study was to evaluate injectable,in situ cross-linkable elastin-like recombinamers(ELRs)for osteochondral *** the ELR-based hydrogel alone and the ELR-based hydrogel embedded with rabbit mesenchymal stromal cells(rMSCs)were tested for the regeneration of critical subchondral defects in 10 New Zealand ***,cylindrical osteochondral defects were filled with an aqueous solution of ELRs and the animals sacrificed at 4months for histological and gross evaluation of features of biomaterial performance,including integration,cellular infiltration,surrounding matrix quality and the new matrix in the *** both approaches helped cartilage regeneration,the results suggest that the specific composition of the rMSC-containing hydrogel permitted adequate bone regeneration,whereas the ELR-based hydrogel alone led to an excellent regeneration of hyaline *** conclusion,the ELR cross-linker solution can be easily delivered and forms a stable well-integrated hydrogel that supports infiltration and de novo matrix synthesis.

This research was carried out to determine a potential role of leukotrienes in the acute hepatotoxicity induced by CC14 in rats. An inhibitor of leukotrienes biosynthesis, diethylcarbamazine (DEC, 25 and 50 mg ·kg-1 ip) exerted hepatoprotective effects, decreasing the activity of alanine aminotransfer-ase in serum and the concentration of liver triglycerides. DEC reduced histological damage of liver evidenced by electron microscopy. The hepatoprotective effects of DEC were dose-dependent. The results favor the role of leukotrienes in CC14 hepatotoxicity.

Non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) is a heterogeneous disease accounting for approximately 85% of all lung cancers. Only 17% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage. Treatment is multidisciplinary and radiotherapy plays a key role in all stages of the disease. More than 50% of patients with NSCLC are treated with radiotherapy(curative-intent or palliative). Technological advancesincluding highly conformal radiotherapy techniques, new immobilization and respiratory control systems, and precision image verification systems-allow clinicians to individualize treatment to maximize tumor control while minimizing treatment-related toxicity. Novel therapeutic regimens such as moderate hypofractionation and advanced techniques such as stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT) have reduced the number of radiotherapy sessions. The integration of SBRT into routine clinical practice has radically altered treatment of early-stage disease. SBRT also plays an increasingly important role in oligometastatic disease. The aim of the present guidelines is to review the role of radiotherapy in the treatment of localized, locally-advanced, and metastatic NSCLC. We review the main radiotherapy techniques and clarify the role of radiotherapy in routine clinical practice. These guidelines are based on the best available evidence. The level and grade of evidence supporting each recommendation is provided.
