Efficient removal of the recalcitrant metamizole contaminant from drinking water by using a CaLaCoO_(9) perovskite supported on recycled polyethylene

Metamizole(MZ)is a widely used anti-inflammatory *** to its common use,this contaminant is found in sewage and *** order to reduce the contamination produced by the MZ,we fabricated in this work a photocatalytic composite using recycled polyethylene(RPE)and the CaLaCoO_(9)(LCCO)*** nanoparticles had a microplate-like morphology and sizes of 1.4–5.5μm according to the analysis of *** photocatalytic properties of the LCCO powders were evaluated under ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)irradiation and found a removal efficiency of 96%.When the RPE+LCCO composite was employed for the photocatalytic degradation of MZ,a maximum degradation of 92.5%was *** influence of the pH on the photocatalytic activity was also studied and found that an initial pH=3 produced a total degradation of MZ after 240 min of UV-Vis ***,three reuse cycles were carried out for the pure LCCO powders and for the RPE+LCCO composites and found that the maximum loss of degradation was 5%.Furthermore,scavenger experiments demonstrated that the super oxide and hydroxyl radicals are formed during the photocatalytic reaction and were responsible for the degradation of ***,the X-ray photoelectron-spectroscopy and Raman analysis demonstrated the formation of defects(oxygen vacancies),those ones delayed the electron-hole recombination,which in turn,enhanced the degradation of the ***,the studies performed in this work proved that composites made with recycled plastics and LCCO perovskites are a low-cost and feasible alternative for the cleaning of water sources polluted with pharmaceutical compounds.

Background Treeline ecotones of Mediterranean ecoregions have been affected by the increasing intensity and severity of droughts. Even though the effect of droughts on forest dynamics has been widely documented, knowledge is relatively scarce of how extreme climate episodes affect the hydraulic structure and, therefore, the phys-iology of woody plants. The Mediterranean Andes have experienced an uninterrupted period of drought since 2010, including an extremely dry year in 2019 with approximately 80% rainfall deficit. Here, we investigated shifts in wood anatomical and physiological traits of Kageneckia angustifolia, an endemic treeline species, in response to this drought *** We evaluated the xylem plasticity of three K. angustifolia populations across their natural distribution(31–35° SL) based on anatomical(vessel structure and distribution) and physiological(intrinsic water-use efficiency) variables in the tree rings. We focused on the period 2000–2020 that corresponds to before the megadrought(2000–2007),(ii) megadrought(2008–2018) and(iii) hyperdrought(2019–2020). The variables were annualized and analyzed by linear mixed-effects *** Our results provide insights to the anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying the resilience of treeline forests to persistent droughts in central Chile. We found that the extreme drought in 2019–2020 triggered shifts in vessel size and frequency that increased hydraulic safety. These significant shifts in vessel traits occurred in parallel with a decrease in pit aperture area and an increase in water-use efficiency, further increasing the resilience of K. angustifolia to extreme drought *** Our results revealed coordinated shifts in vessel size and frequency and water-use efficiency in response to the megadrought, thereby reducing vulnerability to hydraulic failure. Pharmacodynamic Study of Parallel Groups Comparing the Effect of Rivaroxaban 20 Mg (Laboratorios Leti, S.A.V.) vs Rivaroxaban 20 Mg (Bayer Laboratories) on Prothrombin Time

Background: The prevalence of both atrial fibrillation (FA) and diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing and they often occur together and constitute a high risk of thrombosis. Rivaroxaban is a Factor Xa inhibitor with a rapid onset and disappearance of action after oral administration;it acts by inhibiting the active form of the coagulation factor. In order to reflect the effect of the action of Rivaroxaban, we used the prothrombin time (PT);however, it′s not the most accurate, but it is the one available in our community. Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, analyst-blinded, parallel group clinical study to verify the efficacy of Rivaroxaban Leti 20 mg (RL) (12 volunteers vs Rivaroxaban Bayer 20 mg (RB) (13 volunteers). The variables were determination of PT and Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT) at baseline and at 24, 48 and 72 hours after administering a daily dose of 20 mg for three days. The determination was carried out with the IDG method (Integrated Diagnostics Group Sanzay Corporation) with an International Sensitivity Index (ISI) of 1.17 PT and aPTT were taken before the first dose, and then, every day during the next 3 days, three hours after the ingestion of their daily dose at 7 am. Results: The 25 healthy volunteers were similar in age, BMI, and SBP/DBP level with a greater number of men in the Bayer group. The efficacy of rivaroxaban was similar in both groups with prolongation of PTT to the 2nd day of treatment with PT, and percentage changes from baseline (14.46 ± 0.97 for RB vs 14.17 ± 0.94 RL p: 0.45), PTT results and percentage changes from the base (RB: 34 ± 4.53 RL: 33.46 ± 2.82). The safety of rivaroxaban was good in both groups with no serious adverse events. The equivalence in the logarithmically transformed PT result (ln) on day two, Mean and CI (90%) 99.2 (94.4-104) and 100 (99.5-100.8);neither the means nor the 90% confidence intervals of the PT variable transformed logarithmically to ensure its normality, were far from the 80%-125%

BACKGROUND Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children(MIS-C) has emerged as a new disease associated with COVID-19 that presents in acute critically ill children with acute cardiovascular *** To determine whether the age-adjusted N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) value(Z-log-NT-proBNP) is associated with severe MIS-C and myocardial *** A retrospective study was conducted which included children with MIS-C managed at our institution between April 1,2020,and February 28,*** divided the population into groups depending on severity based on pediatric intensive care unit(PICU) *** compared Z-log-NT-proBNP values across these groups and analyzed Z-log-NT-proBNP dynamics during the onemonth *** We included 17 participants [median age 3(2-9) years] and seven(41%) required PICU ***(100%) of these cases presented very high(Z-log > 4) levels of NT-proBNP at the time of admission compared to only 5(50%) patients with non-severe MIS-C(P = 0.025).NT-proBNP was significantly correlated with highsensitive Troponin I levels(P = 0.045),Ross modified score(P = 0.003) and left ventricle ejection fraction(P = 0.021).CONCLUSION Raised NT-proBNP,specifically very high values(Z-log-NT-proBNP > 4) could help in the early identification of MIS-C patients with myocardial dysfunction requiring inotropic support and PICU admission.

We present the structural,morphological and photocatalytic properties of stretchable composites made with carbon nanotubes (CNTs),silicon rubber and Ni@TiO_(2):W nanoparticles(TiWNi NPs) with average size of 37±2 *** images showed that the TiWNi NPs decorated the surface of the CNT fibers,which are oriented in a preferential *** NPs presented a mixture of anatase/rutile phases with cubic *** performance of the TiWNi powders and stretchable composites was evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of diclofenac (DCF) anti-inflammatory drug under ultraviolet-visible *** results revealed that the maximum DCF degradation percentages were 34.6%,91.9%,97.1%,98.5%and 100%for the CNT composite (stretched at 0%),TiWNi powders,CNT+TiWNi(stretched at 0%),CNT+TiWNi (stretched at 50%) and CNT+TiWNi (stretched at 100%),***,stretching the CNT+TiWNi composites was a good strategy to enhance the DCF degradation percentage from 97.1%to 100%,since stretching created additional defects (oxygen vacancies) that acted as electron sink,delaying the electron-hole recombination,and favors the DCF ***/absorbance measurements confirmed the presence of such ***,the reactive oxygen species (ROS) were determined by the scavenger’s experiments and found that the main ROS were the·OH and O_(2)-radicals,which attacked the DCF molecules,causing their *** results of this investigation confirmed that the stretchable CNT/TiWNi-based composites are a viable alternative to remove pharmaceutical contaminants from water and can be manually separated from the decontaminated water,which is unviable using photocatalytic powders.

Contributions to data transmission at critical moments on unmanned aerial vehicles

As for unmanned aircraft, the knowledge of the aircraft performance is directly related with the navigation, guidance, and control system programming. Therefore, the measured data in each phase of the flight must be sufficiently precise to obtain a good characterization of *** article proposes new methods of sending information to ground, which make it possible to know the aircraft behavior accurately, and for this purpose, four contributions have been made for ALO(Avión Ligero de Observación, Spanish acronym for Light Observation Aircraft). Currently, the characterization is based on data obtained at ten samples per second, insufficient to acquire detailed knowledge of what happened during the whole flight of an aircraft. As a result of these contributions, many more samples per second of accelerations and angular velocities are obtained at the most critical moments of the flight, such as takeoff or landing. Among the improvements included are data compression techniques, providing references to locate the measured data in time and identifying labels of each parameter.

Background:Capacitation is a set of physiological changes sperms undergo to acquire fertilizing *** vivo,this process is directly associated with high calcium levels in sperm ***,the vitamin D hypercalcemic metabolite,is related to human sperm motility,capacitation,and acrosome *** work aimed to study the effect of calcitriol on bull sperm quality parameters and ***:One million freezethawed spermatozoa were obtained from different bulls and treated with 20 nM of calcitriol for 30 *** cells(negative control)and treated ones with calcitriol or heparin(100μg/mL,positive capacitation control)were evaluated for motility,viability,and functional ***(70μM,30 min)treatment was included as a reactive oxygen species(ROS)positive sperm ***:The results elucidated that sperm exposed to 20 nM calcitriol showed higher viability,vigor,and capacitation than their positive and negative *** percentage of sperm with intact plasma and acrosome membranes,mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨm),and phosphatidylserine externalization was similar in all the conditions evaluated,while ROS production was higher with heparin and menadione-treated groups than the calcitriol group or negative ***:Our results indicate that calcitriol induces the capacitation of thawed bull spermatozoa and maintains acceptable values of progressive motility,viability,and vigor without altering key biological parameters such as redox status,ΔΨm,and cell death.

An alternative model to the well-established paradigm of the externally switchable drug delivery systems is herein proposed. In contrast to the on--off archetype, here the amount of released drug is pre-set by the application of an external stimulus, and is gradually released after the withdrawal of the exogenous signal. These attributes are achieved through an innovative approach featuring the integration of plasmonic nanovehicles in a polymer-based film. Such a platform is provided with optically responsive capabilities together with multiple diffusional barriers, allowing for an ＂on-demand＂ time-limited release where light acts as a therapeutic ＂starting shot＂. These nanoarchitectured depots have great potential as implantable drug delivery systems in clinical scenarios where a recurrent, sustained, and yet, on--off administration of medication is required. The application of these hybrid materials may extend the implementation of nanomedicine strategies beyond the point-of-care setting.

Emerging technologies such as electric vehicles,solid-state transformers,and DC transformers are implemented using the closed-loop bi-directional dual-active-bridge(DAB)*** this context,it is necessary to have average models that provide an efficient way of tuning the proportional integral(PI)compensator parameters for large-and small-signal *** present a novel small-signal model(SSM)for DAB converter with a single closed-loop PI controller and the total elimination of reactive current(IQ=0).The method applies a modulation technique for IQ=0 and introduces a composite function in the controller while reducing the original nonlinear switching model,which allows to decrease the order of the transfer function and analyze the closed-loop *** proposed SSM is analyzed using different response time,load,and DC voltage *** simulation and experimental results demonstrate the ease of implementation and effectiveness of the proposed model with respect to other SSM techniques.
