Effects of crop residues for animal consumption and soil enhancement on the electricity generation potential of residues:A case study of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district,Ghana

Many studies have estimated the potential of crop residues for energy generation globally and recognized its great potential,especially in rural areas where on-grid electricity is ***,crop residues have other equally important uses as animal feed and as mulch for soil enhancement,especially in rural farming ***,most of the known studies have neglected the estimation of the quantity of crop residues that will be required for feeding animals and also for the enhancement of soil through mulching in their energy potential estimation from crop *** these two important uses can lead to the over-exploitation of the residues for energy generation at the expense of conservation agriculture practices as well as depriving animals of quality feed which can lead to low crop yield and animal production,with the ability to cause hunger and *** study has assessed the potential of electricity generation from agricultural residues in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of Ghana using gasification technology,taking cognizance of the proportion of residues needed for animal consumption and soil *** results of the study indicate that out of the 207646.22 t of residues that can be generated from maize,yam,cassava,millet,sorghum,and groundnut,26830.36 t(representing 13%)will be required by sheep,goats,and cows for consumption,and 13936.17 t(representing 7%)will be required for mulching soils where the crops are ***,it was found that a total of 592.17 MW∙h of electricity can be generated from crop residues without animal consumption and soil enhancement needs,while 461.89 MW∙h could be generated from the residues,considering animal feed and soil *** study has indicated that it is not enough to consider soil enhancement and animal feeding in agricultural biomass power generation through recovery factors without the exact quantification of residues required for these purposes since this can lead to a vi

Measuring Causal Effect with ARDL-BART: A Macroeconomic Application

Modeling dynamic systems with linear parametric models usually suffer limitation which affects forecasting performance and policy implications. This paper advances a non-parametric autoregressive distributed lag model that employs a Bayesian additive regression tree (BART). The performance of the BART model is compared with selection models like Lasso, Elastic Net, and Bayesian networks in simulation experiments with linear and non-linear data generating processes (DGP), and on US macroeconomic time series data. The results show that the BART model is quite competitive against the linear parametric methods when the DGP is linear, and outperforms the competing methods when the DGP is non-linear. The empirical results suggest that the BART estimators are generally more efficient than the traditional linear methods when modeling and forecasting macroeconomic time series.

为提高Ti6Al4V（TC4）合金的表面性能，借助双层辉光等离子表面合金化技术在其表面制备渗钽层，结合Taguchi实验设计研究了工艺参数对渗钽层表面硬度的影响。借助光学显微镜，X射线衍射仪，扫描电子显微镜及能量谱仪分析渗钽层的特征。使用显微硬度计和纳米压入仪对比研究TC4基体和渗钽层的力学性能。结果表明：得到优化的工艺参数组合：温度750 ℃，源阴极压差350 V，保温时间2 h。优化工艺参数的渗钽层连续、均匀、致密，主要由α-Ta和金属间化合物相构成。渗钽层表面硬度比TC4基体提高了约3.2倍，其H/E和H3/E2值分别是TC4基体的2.1倍和15.0倍。双辉等离子表面合金化渗钽处理显著提高了TC4合金的抵抗局部塑性变形能力。

Organosoluble Aliphatic-Aromatic Poly(ether-amide)s Based on Pyridine Moiety in the Main Chain: Synthesis, Characterization and Thermal Studies

A series organosoluble and heterocyclic poly（ether-amide）s （PEA）s were synthesized from a new diamine containing pyridine moiety and four aliphatic-aromatic dicarboxylic acids by direct polycondensation reactions. Dicarboxilic acids 4a-4d containing ether groups were synthesized in two step reactions. At first, dialdehydes 3a-3d were synthesized from four dibromo alkanes la-ld and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde 2, then dicarboxilic acids 4a-4d were synthesized from dialdehydes 3a-3d and malonic acid in a solvent free reaction. On the other hand, the new diamine 8 containing pyridine ring was synthesized in two step reactions. The structures of synthesized monomers and polymers were proven by FTIR, NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Also all of the above polymers were fully characterized by inherent viscosity, solubility tests, gel permeation chromatography （GPC）, differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and thermogravimetric analysis （TGA）. The resulted PEAs have shown good inherent viscosities, solubility and thermal properties.

Effects of Yttrium Addition on Microstructure, Hardness and Resistance to Wear and Corrosive Wear of TiNi Alloy

TiNi alloy has a high resistance to wear and could be an excellent candidate for various tribological applications. In this paper, it was demonstrated that by addition of yttrium, hardness properties and resistance to wear and corrosive wear of TiNi alloy were improved. New yttrium rich regions were formed in microstructure of TiNi alloy. The improved properties of this alloy by the yttrium addition could be attributed to the formation of these regions. The results showed that there was an optimum content for addition of yttrium between 2% and 5% （in wt%）, and above this content the improvement in properties of TiNi became minor.

Studying the piled raft behavior has been the subject of many types of research in the field of geotechnical *** studies have been conducted to understand the behavior of these types of foundations,which are often used for uniform loading on the raft and piles with the same length,while generally the transition load from the upper structure to the foundation is non-uniform and the choice of uniform length for piles in the above model will not be optimally economic and *** most common method in identifying the behavior of piled rafts is the use of theoretical relationships and software *** precise identification of this type of foundation behavior can be very difficult due to several influential parameters and interaction of set behavior,and it will be done by doing time-consuming computer analyses or costly full-scale physical *** the meantime,the technique of artificial neural networks can be used to achieve this goal with minimum time consumption,in which data from physical and numerical modeling can be used for network *** of the advantages of this method is the speed and simplicity of using *** this paper,a model is presented based on multi-layer perceptron artificial neural *** this model pile diameter,pile length,and pile spacing is considered as an input parameter that can be used to estimate maximum settlement,maximum differential settlement,and maximum raft *** this model,we can create an extensive domain of results for optimum system selection in the desired piled raft *** of neural network indicate its proper ability in identifying the piled raft *** presented procedure provides an interesting solution and economically enhancing the design of the piled raft foundation *** innovative design method reduces the time spent on software analyses.

Synthesis and characterization of optically active and organosoluble poly(amide-imide)s containing imidazole rings as pendent groups by direct polycondensation

Six new optically active poly(amide-imide)s(PAIs) 6a-f were prepared by direct polycondensation reaction of N-trimelli-tylimido-L-histidine 4 as a chiral diacid with various aromatic diamines *** phosphite(TPP)/pyridine(Py) in the presence of calcium chloride(CaCl2) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP) were successfully applied to direct polycondensation *** resulting new polymers were in good yields,and had inherent viscosities ranging between 0.29 and 0.41 dL g-1 and were detected with elemental analysis,FTIR,1H-NMR spectroscopy,specific rotation and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),and derivative of thermaogravimetry(DTG).Imidazole pendent groups of the polymer chains disturb interchain and intrachain interactions and make these PAIs readily soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide(DMAc),N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF),dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO),NMP and solvents such as sulfuric *** analysis indicated that the residual weight percents of polymers at 600 °C were between 56.47% and 68.76%,which show their thermal stability.

The influence of particle characteristics on the index void ratios in granular materials

The goal of this paper is to assess the effects of particle and specific gravity characteristics (e.g. shape, size, and specific gravity) on the limiting void ratios emax and emin of granular matter. To assess the effect of specific gravity, two different types of materials—glass beads and natural sands—were used. Particle characteristics such as roundness (R), sphericity (S) regularity (p), the average of R and S, were calculated through image analysis techniques after obtaining high-quality microscope images of individual grains. The German DIN standards were strictly followed to determine the extremities of the void ratio. Exper-imental data were used to investigate the effects of the particle characteristics on the relative density of soils. The results show the significant effect of the mean grain size (D50) on the extreme void ratios of poorly graded glass as well as the significant effect of Cu but negligible effect of Dso on the extreme void ratios of sand. The effect of the specific gravity of the materials was also examined. The results were used to develop models dependent on both particle shape and specific gravity, which were validated by comparison with results of previous studies.
