Sub-nanometer structured silicon-carbon composite nanolayers armoring on graphite for fast-charging and high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries

Silicon/carbon composites are promising alternatives to current graphite anodes in commercial lithiumion batteries(LIBs)because of their high capacity and excellent safety.Nevertheless,the unsatisfactory fastcharging capability and cycle stability of Si/C composites caused by slow charge transport capability and huge volume change under industrial electrode conditions severely hamper their development.Here,a novel Si/C anode was fabricated by homogeneously depositing amorphous C-Si nanolayers on graphite(C-Si@graphite).C-Si nanolayers with uniformly dispersed sub-nanometer Si particles in 3D carbon skeleton significantly boost electron and Li-ion transport and efficiently relieve Si's agglomeration and volume change.As a result,the tailored C-Si@graphite electrodes show an excellent rate capacity(760.3 mAh·g^(-1)at 5.0C)and long cycle life of over 1000 cycles at 1.0C and800 cycles at 2.0C under industrial electrode conditions.In addition,the assembled full cells(C-Si@graphite,anode;Li[Ni_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)]O_(2),cathode)present superior fastcharging capability(240.4 Wh·kg^(-1),charging for16.2 min,3.0C)and long cycle life(80.7%capacity retention after 500 cycles at 1.0C),demonstrating the massive potential of C-Si@graphite for practical application.

Recent progress in the deactivation mechanism of zeolite catalysts in methanol to olefins

Methanol to olefins(MTO) as an important reaction in C1 chemistry can effectively transform non-petroleum carbon resources into value-added chemicals. Zeolites have been widely used as MTO catalysts. However, they usually suffer from a rapid deactivation due to bulky coke species production, and thus require continuous regenerations in industrial application. The key to design and develop highly stable zeolite catalysts for MTO process is to unravel the deactivation mechanism and clarify the structure–performance relationship of catalysts. Here, in this mini-review, we investigate the critical intermediate species inducing zeolite deactivation and analyze the formation and evolution pathways of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)that are the precursors of carbonaceous deposits. In addition, some methods to alleviate the coking mainly including acid regulation, morphology modification and process optimization, are also summarized.

A Weakly-Supervised Crowd Density Estimation Method Based on Two-Stage Linear Feature Calibration

In a crowd density estimation dataset,the annotation of crowd locations is an extremely laborious task,and they are not taken into the evaluation metrics.In this paper,we aim to reduce the annotation cost of crowd datasets,and propose a crowd density estimation method based on weakly-supervised learning,in the absence of crowd position supervision information,which directly reduces the number of crowds by using the number of pedestrians in the image as the supervised information.For this purpose,we design a new training method,which exploits the correlation between global and local image features by incremental learning to train the network.Specifically,we design a parent-child network(PC-Net)focusing on the global and local image respectively,and propose a linear feature calibration structure to train the PC-Net simultaneously,and the child network learns feature transfer factors and feature bias weights,and uses the transfer factors and bias weights to linearly feature calibrate the features extracted from the Parent network,to improve the convergence of the network by using local features hidden in the crowd images.In addition,we use the pyramid vision transformer as the backbone of the PC-Net to extract crowd features at different levels,and design a global-local feature loss function(L2).We combine it with a crowd counting loss(LC)to enhance the sensitivity of the network to crowd features during the training process,which effectively improves the accuracy of crowd density estimation.The experimental results show that the PC-Net significantly reduces the gap between fullysupervised and weakly-supervised crowd density estimation,and outperforms the comparison methods on five datasets of Shanghai Tech Part A,ShanghaiTech Part B,UCF_CC_50,UCF_QNRF and JHU-CROWD++.

Organic compounds represent an appealing group of electrode materials for rechargeable batteries due to their merits of biomass,sustainability,environmental friendliness,and processability.Disodium terephthalate(Na_(2)C_(8)H_(4)O_(4),Na_(2)TP),an organic salt with a theoretical capacity of 255 mAh·g^(-1),is electroactive towards both lithium and sodium.However,its electrochemical energy storage(EES)process has not been directly observed via in situ characterization techniques and the underlying mechanisms are still under debate.Herein,in situ Raman spectroscopy was employed to track the de/lithiation and de/sodiation processes of Na2TP.The appearance and then disappearance of the–COOLi Raman band at 1625 cm^(-1) during the de/lithiation,and the increase and then decrease of the–COONa Raman band at 1615 cm^(-1) during the de/sodiation processes of Na2TP elucidate the one-step with the 2Li+or 2Na+transfer mechanism.We also found that the inferior cycling stability of Na2TP as an anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)than lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)could be due to the larger ion radium of Na+than Li+,which results in larger steric resistance and polarization during EES.The Na2TP,therefore,shows greater changes in spectra during de/sodiation than de/lithiation.We expect that our findings could provide a reference for the rational design of organic compounds for EES.

Effects of iron oxide on crystallization behavior and spatial distribution of spinel in stainless steel slag

Chromium plays a vital role in stainless steel due to its ability to improve the corrosion resistance of the latter.However,the re-lease of chromium from stainless steel slag(SSS)during SSS stockpiling causes detrimental environmental issues.To prevent chromium pollution,the effects of iron oxide on crystallization behavior and spatial distribution of spinel were investigated in this work.The results revealed that FeO was more conducive to the growth of spinels compared with Fe2O3 and Fe3O4.Spinels were found to be mainly distrib-uted at the top and bottom of slag.The amount of spinel phase at the bottom decreased with the increasing FeO content,while that at the top increased.The average particle size of spinel in the slag with 18wt%FeO content was 12.8μm.Meanwhile,no notable structural changes were observed with a further increase in FeO content.In other words,the spatial distribution of spinel changed when the content of iron oxide varied in the range of 8wt%to 18wt%.Finally,less spinel was found at the bottom of slag with a FeO content of 23wt%.

To the Editor:Psoriatic arthritis(PsA)is a highly heterogeneous inflammatory arthritis.It occurs in up to 30%of patients with psoriasis and can have severe impacts on peripheral joints,spine,tendon insertions,and fingers. ^([1])Radiographic progression is currently the preferred method for assessing structural damage of PsA. ^([2])Biologic treatment options for PsA include tumor necrosis factor-αinhibitors(TNFi),interleukin-12/23 inhibitors,and interleukin-17(IL-17)inhibitors.The therapeutic effects of IL-17 inhibitors on structural damage were not consistent over multiple trials.Therefore,a systematic review and meta-analysis of the available randomized controlled trials(RCTs)was conducted to quantify the overall effect of IL-17 inhibitors on structural damage in PsA.This study was registered with PROSPERO(No.CRD42022301774).

Objective:To investigate the effects of Pien Tze Huang(PZH) on the migration and invasion of HCC cells and underlying molecular mechanism.Methods:Cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) was applied to evaluate the cell viabilities of SMMC-7721,SK-Hep-1,C3A and HL-7702(6 × 10^(3)cells/well) co-incubated with different concentrations of PZH(0,0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8 mg/mL) for 24 h.Transwell,wound healing assay,CCK-8and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining were conducted to investigate the effects of PZH on the migration,invasion,proliferation and apoptosis of SK-Hep-1 and SMMC-7721 cells(650 μg/mL for SK-Hep-1 cells and 330 μg/mL for SMMC-7721 cells),respectively.In vivo,lung metastasis mouse model constructed by tail vein injection of HCC cells was used for evaluating the anti-metastasis function of PZH.SK-Hep-1 cells(10^(6)cells/200 μL per mice) were injected into B-NDG mice via tail vein.Totally 8 mice were randomly divided into PZH and control groups,4 mice in each group.After 2-d inoculation,mice in the PZH group were administered with PZH(250 mg/kg,daily) and mice in the control group received only vehicle(PBS) from the 2nd day after xenograft to day 17.Transcriptome analysis based on RNA-seq was subsequently used for deciphering anti-tumor mechanism of PZH.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and Western blot were applied to verify RNA-seq results.Luciferase reporter assay was performed to examine the transcriptional activity of yes-associated protein(YAP).Results:PZH treatment significantly inhibited the migration,invasion,proliferation and promoted the apoptosis of HCC cells in vitro and in vivo(Phanical study showed PZH significantly inhibited the expressions of platelet derived growth factor receptor beta(PDGFRB),YAP,connective tissue growth factor(CCN2),N-cadherin,vimentin and matrix metallopeptidase 2(MMP2,Phanced by PZH treatment in v

Experimental investigation on coal pore-fracture variation and fractal characteristics synergistically affected by solvents for improving clean gas extraction

Chemical solvents instead of pure water being as hydraulic fracturing fluid could effectively increase permeability and improve clean methane extraction efficiency.However,pore-fracture variation features of lean coal synergistically affected by solvents have not been fully understood.Ultrasonic testing,nuclear magnetic resonance analysis,liquid phase mass spectrometry was adopted to comprehensively analyze pore-fracture change characteristics of lean coal treated by combined solvent(NMP and CS_(2)).Meanwhile,quantitative characterization of above changing properties was conducted using geometric fractal theory.Relationship model between permeability,fractal dimension and porosity were established.Results indicate that the end face fractures of coal are well developed after CS2and combined solvent treatments,of which,end face box-counting fractal dimensions range from 1.1227 to 1.4767.Maximum decreases in ultrasonic longitudinal wave velocity of coal affected by NMP,CS_(2)and combined solvent are 2.700%,20.521%,22.454%,respectively.Solvent treatments could lead to increasing amount of both mesopores and macropores.Decrease ratio of fractal dimension Dsis 0.259%–2.159%,while permeability increases ratio of NMR ranges from 0.1904 to 6.4486.Meanwhile,combined solvent could dissolve coal polar and non-polar small molecules and expand flow space.Results could provide reference for solvent selection and parameter optimization of permeability-enhancement technology.

Role of adaptation measures in addressing heatwave exposure in China

Heatwave exposure has increased dramatically because of climate warming and population growth,along with their interactive effects.However,effective adaptation measures can reduce these impacts.Nonetheless,the dynamic changes,regional inequality in adaptive capacity and their potential contributions to reducing exposure in the future remain unclear.This study quantifies the impact of adaptive capacity and underscores regional variations in heatwave magnitudes,population exposure and adaptation levels in China.We projected the future adaptive capacity using air-conditioner penetration,factoring in climate cooling requirements and individuals'purchasing power.Utilising population and gross domestic product(GDP)data from four Shared Socioeconomic Pathways(SSP1,SSP2,SSP3 and SSP5)and daily temperature data from four SSP-based emission scenarios(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5),we estimated heatwave duration,population exposure and avoided impacts through adaptation across China and its sub-regions.Results show a substantial increase in heatwave duration in Southwest and Southern China,especially under the SSP5-8.5 scenario,with a projection of 163.2±36.7 d during 2081-2100.Under the SSP3|SSP3-7.0 scenario,total exposure reaches 156.4±76.8 billion person d per year,which is the highest among all scenarios and 23 times greater than that in 1986-2005 without adaptation.Upon considering adaptation measures,a noteworthy reduction in population exposure is observed,especially in the SSP3|SSP3-7.0 and SSP5JSSP5-8.5 scenarios,with reductions of(62.6±3.9)%and(65.8±5.1)%,respectively,compared with the scenario without adaptation during 2081-2100.Remarkable regional disparities in avoided impacts are also evident,with variations of up to 50%across different regions.The implementation of effective and environmentally friendly adaptation measures can notably address climate change,thereby alleviating the profound threats posed to human well-being.
