Review:Layer⁃Number Controllable Preparation of High⁃Quality Graphene for Wide Applications

Graphene, a well-known two-dimensional(2 D) material, has sparked broad enthusiasm in both scientific and industrial communities in these years, due to its exceptional electrical, thermal, mechanical, and versatile properties. However, many properties and applications of graphene are layer-number dependent. The preparation of high-quality graphene with controlled layer numbers is full of challenge, since the layer number varies much with the synthesis routes and relevant experimental conditions. Hence, there is an urgent need to improve the layer-number controllability of graphene preparation. Generally, graphene can be prepared by two complementary approaches: "top-down" and "bottom-up". Since they have their own advantages, the recent advances in the layer-number tunable preparation of high-quality graphene are separately studied from the two aspects in this review, especially those dedicated to single parameter. Some effective strategies are discussed in detail, mainly including 1) supercritical-CO2 assisted sonication, electrochemical exfoliation of graphite intercalation compounds, and layer-by-layer thinning with plasma or laser, for "top-down" graphene;2) chemical vapor deposition(CVD) on dual-metal substrate, ion-implantation CVD, layer-by-layer CVD, plasma-enhanced CVD, layered-double-hydroxides template-assisted CVD;and 3) graphite-enclosure assisted epitaxial growth and pulsed-magnetron-sputtering assisted physical vapor deposition for "bottom-up" graphene on various substrates. In addition, the respective advantages of graphene with different layer numbers in properties and applications are also presented. Finally, the contribution concludes with some important perspectives on the remained challenges and future perspectives.

Review:Progress in Core-shell Rubber Particles for Efficiently Toughening Resins

Core-shell toughening particles are structured composite particles consisting of generally two different components, one at the center as a rubbery elastic core and surrounding by the second as a glassy inelastic shell. The design, preparation, and application of core-shell polymer particles have been briefly reviewed. Morphological characteristics of the core-shell particles by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) are focused. The vital factors that are useful to control core-shell morphology and toughening properties including core-shell monomer species, polymerization conditions, cross-linking reagents, synthetic method, and post-processing techniques are analyzed. Distinguished properties are mainly considered as the most desirable features that endow core-shell polymer particles with various applicabilities, particularly as effectively toughening components in brittle epoxy resin and polylactide that are substrate of copper clad laminate widely used in the modern electronic world and environmentally friendly materials that are useful as packaging films, disposable tableware, biomedical equipment, and new energy vehicles.

Hamamatsu R1924A is one of the most widely used photomultiplier tubes(PMTs) in nuclear *** the active base suitable for R1924A is still not available in market, an active base is designed for Hamamatsu R1924A PMT, and the test results at high counting rates are presented. The active bases with two different sets of resistor chains were tested and compared by a frequency-controlled green straw hat LED light. A stable signal output up to 100 kHz is achieved using frequency-controlled LED pulsed light. The temperature of bases, which reflects the power consumption and is crucial for applications in vacuum, is also monitored with the same LED pulsed light. The temperature of the active base with smaller resistances reaches about twice of that of the active base with larger resistances in the resistor chain. For the applications in vacuum, the active base with resistance between the two sets of resistor chains may be preferable.

In this report,a kinematical focusing technique will be briefly described,and using this technique,the primary hot isotope yields from the multiplicities of evaporated light particles,associated with isotopically identified intermediate mass fragments,are *** energy and characteristic properties of the fragmenting source at the time of the intermediate mass fragment formation are extracted from these reconstructed primary isotope yields using a self-consistent *** extracted density-dependent symmetry energy is further compared with those experimentally extracted from other heavy-ion reactions in literatures.A direct connection between the freeze-out concept and transport model simulations in a multifragmenting regime of heavy-ion collisions is also demonstrated quantitatively in the present work.

Cosmological interpretation for the stochastic signal in pulsar timing arrays

The pulsar timing array(PTA)collaborations have recently reported compelling evidence for a stochastic signal consistent with a gravitational-wave *** this paper,we combine the latest data sets from NANOGrav,PPTA,and EPTA to explore cosmological interpretations for the PTA signal from first-order phase transitions,domain walls,and cosmic strings,*** find that the domain wall model is strongly disfavored with the Bayes factors compared with the first-order phase transitions and cosmic strings being 1/90 and 1/189,respectively,breaking the degeneracy among these models in individual data *** also find that:(1)a strong phase transition at temperatures below the electroweak scale is favored,and the bubble collisions make the dominant contribution to the energy density spectrum;(2)a small reconnection probability p<1.55×10^(-1)allowed by strings in(super)string theory is favored at the 95%confidence level,and ground-based detectors can further constrain the parameter space.

Effect of Tanshinone IIA on High Glucose-induced Apoptosis and Oxidative Stress Damage in Vascular Endothelial Cells

Objective: The primary cause of microvascular disease in diabetic complications is long-term hyperglycemia, wherein the damage and apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells play a significant role. Sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate(STS) has been found to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health. This study aimed to investigate the impact of STS on high glucose-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress damage in vascular endothelial cells, as well as its potential protective mechanisms. Methods:Human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) were divided into five groups:low-glucose group, high-glucose group, and three STS groups(STS-a, STS-b, and STS-c). The low-glucose group was incubated with DMEM low-sugar medium containing 5.5 mmol·L-1glucose, while the high-glucose group was treated with 33.3mmol·L-1glucose. The STS groups were exposed to 10, 30, and 50 μg·m L-1of STS,respectively. Each group was cultured for 72 h, and the MTT method was utilized to assess cell proliferation. Additionally, flow cytometry was employed to monitor changes in cell apoptosis and cellular oxidative stress indicators at 24, 48, and 72 h of cell culture in each group. Results: As time went on, the cell proliferation ability and apoptosis rate of each group gradually increased. The high-glucose group exhibited lower proliferation ability compared to the other groups. The STS-c group demonstrated the highest OD value for proliferation ability(24 h: 1.19±0.12; 48 h: 1.20±0.13; 72 h:1.25 ±0.12), but it was still lower than that of the low-sugar group. Notably, the high-glucose group had the highest cell apoptosis rate, while the low-glucose group had the lowest. The apoptosis rate of the STS-c group(24 h: 8.02±0.13; 48 h: 10.10±0.12;72 h: 13.18 ±0.11)% was between that of the low-glucose group and the high-glucose group, and lower than the STS-a and STS-b groups. The counterion-mediated hydrogen bonding(CMHB)is related to the hydrogen bonding between bound counterions and polyelectrolyte chains in polyelectrolyte systems,where the counterions can both electrostatically bind to the charged groups of polyelectrolyte chains and act as hydrogen bond donors or acceptors to form hydrogen bonds with the hydrogen bond sites associated with polyelectrolyte chains simultaneously.A large number of literatures illustrate that strong polyelectrolytes(SPs)are insensitive to pH,which severely limmits the applications of SPs as smart ***,our studies have demonstrated that the CMHB makes SPs *** perspective discusses the mechanism of pH responsiveness of SPs and the pH-tunable properties of SPs,based on the pH-controlled CMHB *** future research directions on the pH responsiveness of SPs are also discussed *** is anticipated that the study of the pH responsiveness of SPs not only will provide a new understanding of the fundamental properties of SPs,but also will greatly expand the applications of SPs in the field of smart materials.
