Stimulated shale reservoirs consist of kerogen,inorganic matter,secondary and hydraulic *** dispersed distribution of kerogen within matrices and complex gas flow mechanisms make production evaluation *** we establish an analytical method that addresses kerogen-inorganic matter gas transfer,dispersed kerogen distribution,and complex gas flow mechanisms to facilitate evaluating gas *** matrix element is defined as a kerogen core with an exterior inorganic *** most previous models,we merely use boundary conditions to describe kerogen-inorganic matter gas transfer without the instantaneous kerogen gas source *** is closer to real inter-porosity flow conditions between kerogen and inorganic *** diffusion,surface diffusion,adsorption/desorption,and slip corrected flow are involved in matrix gas ***-fracture coupling is realized by using a seven-region linear flow *** model is verified against a published model and field *** reveal that inorganic matrices serve as a major gas source especially at early *** provides limited contributions to production even under a pseudo-steady *** properties’influence starts from the late matrix-fracture inter-porosity flow regime,while inorganic matter properties control almost all flow regimes except the early-mid time fracture linear flow *** contribution of different linear flow regions is also documented.

Parkinson’s disease(PD)relates to defective mitochondrial quality control in the dopaminergic motor *** studies have revealed that PINK1 and Parkin mutations are indicative of a heightened propensity to PD onset,pinpointing mitophagy and inflammation as the culprit pathways involved in neuronal loss in the substantia nigra(SNpc).In a reciprocal manner,LRRK2 functions in the regulation of basal flux and inflammatory responses responsible for PINK1/Parkin-dependent mitophagy *** intervention in these diseasemodifying pathways may facilitate the development of novel PD therapeutics,despite the current lack of an established drug evaluation *** such,we reviewed the feasibility of employing the versatile global Pink1knockout(KO)rat model as a self-sufficient,spontaneous PD model for investigating both disease etiology and drug *** rats retain clinical features encompassing basal mitophagic flux changes with PD *** demonstrate the versatility of this PD rat model based on the incorporation of additional experimental insults to recapitulate the proinflammatory responses observed in PD patients.

The present study aims to determine the appropriate size of mesh or the number of the element(NoE)for flat-and curved plates,which is suggested to assess its safety subjected to axial compression based on the ultimate limit state(ULS)design and analysis *** unstiffened panel(=plate)and stiff-ened panel,considered primary members of ships and ship-shaped offshore structures,are subjected to repeated axial compression and tension caused by continued vertical bending moments applied to the hull *** are attached with stiffeners by welding,and 6,8 or 10 elements are generally rec-ommended to allocate in flat-plate’s breadth direction in between stiffeners for finite-element(FE)mod-elling,which enables the presentation of the shape of initial deflection applied to the *** the case of the load-shorting curve for curved plate,it is reported that the nonlinear behaviour characteristics,i.e.,snap-through,snap-back,secondary buckling and others,appear in typical flank *** take this into account,we investigated the preferred number of elements(6,8 or 10)generally applied to the flat plate whether it is an appropriate or more fine-sized element(or mesh)that should be considered.A useful guide is documented based on obtained outcomes which may help structural engineers select optimised mesh-size to predict ultimate strength and understand its characteristic of the flat and curved plates.

Environmental application of three-dimensional graphene materials as adsorbents for dyes and heavy metals: Review on ice-templating method and adsorption mechanisms

The remediation of wastewater requires treatment technologies which are robust, efficient,simple to operate and affordable such as adsorption. Lately, three-dimensional(3D)graphene based materials have attracted significant attention as effective adsorbents for wastewater treatment. The intrinsic properties of 3D graphene structure such as large surface area and interconnected porous structure can facilitate the transport of pollutants into the 3D network and provide abundant active sites for trapping the pollutants. For the synthesis of 3D graphene structure, ice-templating is commonly practiced due to its facile steps, cost effectiveness and high scalability potential. This review covers the icetemplating fabrication technique for 3D graphene based materials and their application as adsorbents in eliminating dyes and heavy metals from aqueous media. The assembly mechanisms of the ice-templating fsynthesis are comprehensively discussed. Further discussion on the fundamental principles, critical process parameters and characteristics of ice-templated 3D graphene structures is also included. A thorough review on the mechanisms for batch adsorption of dyes and heavy metals is presented based on the structures and properties of the 3D graphene materials. The review further evaluates the dynamic adsorption in packed columns and the regeneration of 3D graphene based materials.

Skin Impedance at Acupuncture Point Dingchuan in Subjects with and without Asthma

Objective:Asthma can be a disabling disease and despite advances in pharmacology,the prevalence of this condition globally remains high and accounts for a significant proportion of public health care *** pharmacology is the mainstay of asthma management,drug side effects have promoted alternative therapeutic interventions,such as *** points have a lower skin impedance compared to non-acupuncture *** impairment is associated with changes in skin impedance at system-specific acupuncture *** of skin impedance changes may assist in the early diagnosis of asthma and monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for this ***:This study compared skin impedance at acupuncture point Dingchuan(EX-B1),in 92 subjects with normal health(47 subjects,age 32.6 ±1.67yr) and those diagnosed with asthma(45 subjects,age 42.4 ±1.80 yr).Skin impedance was measured using a 2-electrode impedance meter bilaterally at EX-B1,0.5 "cun" lateral to the lower border of 7th cervical ***:The study showed that skin impedance was significantly higher at acupuncture point EX-B1 in subjects with asthma(29.4 ± 21 kΩ) compared to subjects with normal health(13.8±7.9 kΩ)(P=0.013).Skin impedance was negatively correlated to forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1,r=-0.59,P=0.012 in females;and r=-0.68,P=0.015 in males).A receiver operator characteristic(ROC) curve revealed an optimum cut-off point of 35 kΩ for male and 10 kΩ for female ***:We conclude that EX-B1 skin impedance is higher in patients with asthma and skin impedance might be a possible adjunctive parameter for assisting diagnosis and monitoring asthmatic status.

In the present work,garlic polysaccharide(GP)in lowering lipid based on in vitro and in vivo approaches were *** in vitro studies revealed significant effects of GP on cholesterol,sodium cholate,oil binding,and lipase ***,the liver index in the medium and high dose GP group was significantly lower than the control group in normal mice which relatively corresponded to the modulated effect of intestinal flora.A high dose of GP has markedly reduced the ratio of intestinal Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes and increased the abundance of gut probiotics ***,the high dose of GP also significantly reduced the levels of triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol of diabetic mice indicating that GP could not only prevent hyperlipidemia of metabolic syndrome but also further ameliorate dyslipidemia of diabetes *** study provides new prospects for garlic polysaccharide as a hypolipidemic nutraceutical for the treatment of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Role and outcome of conventional surgery in the treatment of pyogenic liver abscess in the modern era of minimally invasive therapy

AIM:To evaluate the role and outcome of conventional surgery in the treatment of pyogenic liver abscess in the modern era of minimally invasive therapy. METHODS:The medical records of thirteen patients with pyogenic liver abscess who underwent surgical treatment between January 1995 and December 2002 were retrospectively reviewed to determine the clinical presentation, indication and nature of surgery, and out-come of surgery. RESULTS:The patients were predominantly women (10/13) with a mean age of 65 ± 17 years. Their main presenting symptoms were abdominal pain (100%) and fever (77%). The aetiologies included biliary (n = 6), cryptogenic (n = 3), portal (n = 2), and trauma (n = 2). Seven patients underwent percutaneous drainage as the initial treatment. Of these, three patients developed peritonitis secondary to peritoneal spillage. Another four patients failed to respond because of multilocula-tion. Salvage surgery was required in these patients. Six patients proceeded to straight laparotomy:two had marked sepsis and multiloculated abscess that precluded percutaneous drainage, and four presented with perito-nitis of uncertain pathology. Surgical procedures included deroofment and drainage (n = 9), liver resection (n = 3), peritoneal lavage (n = 2), cholecystectomy (n = 4), and exploration of common bile duct (n = 2). One patient required reoperation because of bleeding. Three patients required further percutaneous drainage after surgery. The overall mortality was 46%. Four patients died of multiorgan failure and two patients died of pulmonary embolism. CONCLUSION:Surgical treatment of pyogenic liver ab-scess is occasionally needed when percutaneous drainage has failed due to various reasons. Mortality rate in this group of patients has remained high.

Structural analysis of the promoter of tomato 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase 6 gene(Le-ACS6)

Ethylene plays an important role in the regulation of many growth and developmental processes of higher plants. In tomato,Le-ACS6,a member of the ACC synthase multigene family involved in system 1 ethylene biosynthesis during fruit ripening,is subject to negative feedback regulation by ethylene. To identify the cis-elements that are responsible for the negative feedback control,we established an in vitro transient assay system employing particle bombardment on mature-green tomato fruit pericarp to examine the expression of a luciferase(LUC) reporter gene driven by a 5′-serially deleted Le-ACS6 promoter. The results localized putative cis-elements required for negative ethylene-response between -347 and -266 upstream from the translational start site ATG. Several lines of stable transformation of the Le-ACS6 promoter and GUS reporter fusion gene containing internal deletion from -347 to -266 were generated. The expression pattern of the GUS reporter showed that removal of the nucleotides from -347 to -266 completely eliminated the response of the Le-ACS6 promoter to exogenous ethylene.
