The literature on international students’ experiences frequently depicts them within a ‘deficient’ framework, highlighting their perceived lack of essential skills for managing their studies. Moreover, international students’ emotional experiences are often construed as personal and psychological attributes, with their emotions viewed as transient and pathological phases that they will eventually overcome to assimilate into the local context. However, there exists a dearth of literature investigating international students’ experiences from a sociological perspective, particularly concerning their emotional experiences within the broader social and political milieu. Utilizing a longitudinal research design to monitor 25 Chinese international postgraduates from multiple universities in London and Glasgow over the course of one year, this study illuminates the racialised, classed, and gendered dimensions of international students’ experiences in UK higher education through an exploration of their feelings of shame. Drawing on the research findings, it is evident that power relations operate insidiously and covertly to systematically frame international students’ experiences as personal or cultural ‘deficiency’. This process represents a form of misrecognition, which manifests in racialised, gendered, and classed feelings of shame, experienced at the personal level as insecurity, ‘stupidity’, exclusion, and self-doubt. Consequently, social and cultural inequalities within higher education are often situated at the individual level.

The purpose of the paper is to describe the solution to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation associated with the 8-dimensional spin representation Tsp of Uq(so7).The self-duality of Tsp and the symmetry of the corresponding braiding matrix are proved.Also,the minimal polynomial of the braiding R-matrix of Tsp is presented explicitly in an ingenious method by taking advantage of nice features of the spin representation Tsp.

It is known that different relationships exist between the strength and displacement of the stratospheric polar vortex(SPV),and the surface air temperature(SAT)patterns in Eurasia and North America,but the mechanisms behind these relationships remain unclear,especially on an interannual timescale.Based on empirical orthogonal function(EOF)analysis using NCEP reanalysis data over 1958–2018,this study attempts to ascertain the relationship between the SPV intensity and displacement over the Arctic and the SATs in the midlatitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.Our results indicate that a strengthened SPV corresponds to an SAT increase in Eurasia and a decrease in eastern North America and Greenland.When the SPV is shifted towards Eurasia,however,a corresponding SAT increase occurs in both North America and Eurasia,with a larger increase in North America than in Eurasia.Specifically,a strengthened SPV tends to correspond to a positive North Atlantic Oscillation-like circulation in the troposphere with negative geopotential height(GH)anomalies in Greenland and eastern North American continent and positive GH anomalies to the north of 45°N in Eurasia,which corresponds to lower SATs in North America than in Eurasia.However,when the SPV shifted towards Eurasia,it was accompanied by a positive Pacific/North American-like pattern with a deepened Aleutian low,which corresponds to the increasing SATs in North America.These tropospheric circulation changes are related to the response of tropospheric planetary wave activity to the SPV.A strengthened SPV corresponds to the weakening of tropospheric planetary wave-1 waves,which is accompanied by a negative GH in North America but a positive GH in Eurasia.If the SPV shifted towards Eurasia,the tropospheric planetary wave-1(-2)waves strengthened(weakened),and the combined effects of the planetary wave-1 and wave-2 waves would cause positive GH anomalies in both Eurasia and North America.

In a crowd density estimation dataset,the annotation of crowd locations is an extremely laborious task,and they are not taken into the evaluation metrics.In this paper,we aim to reduce the annotation cost of crowd datasets,and propose a crowd density estimation method based on weakly-supervised learning,in the absence of crowd position supervision information,which directly reduces the number of crowds by using the number of pedestrians in the image as the supervised information.For this purpose,we design a new training method,which exploits the correlation between global and local image features by incremental learning to train the network.Specifically,we design a parent-child network(PC-Net)focusing on the global and local image respectively,and propose a linear feature calibration structure to train the PC-Net simultaneously,and the child network learns feature transfer factors and feature bias weights,and uses the transfer factors and bias weights to linearly feature calibrate the features extracted from the Parent network,to improve the convergence of the network by using local features hidden in the crowd images.In addition,we use the pyramid vision transformer as the backbone of the PC-Net to extract crowd features at different levels,and design a global-local feature loss function(L2).We combine it with a crowd counting loss(LC)to enhance the sensitivity of the network to crowd features during the training process,which effectively improves the accuracy of crowd density estimation.The experimental results show that the PC-Net significantly reduces the gap between fullysupervised and weakly-supervised crowd density estimation,and outperforms the comparison methods on five datasets of Shanghai Tech Part A,ShanghaiTech Part B,UCF_CC_50,UCF_QNRF and Jhu-CROWD++.

Glaucoma is a common and complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs)and axons.Currently,there is no effective method to address the cause of RGCs degeneration.However,studies on neuroprotective strategies for optic neuropathy have increased in recent years.Cell replacement and neuroprotection are major strategies for treating glaucoma and optic neuropathy.Regenerative medicine research into the repair of optic nerve damage using stem cells has Received considerable attention.Stem cells possess the potential for multidirectional differentiation abilities and are capable of producing RGCfriendly microenvironments through paracrine effects.This article reviews a thorough researches of recent advances and approaches in stem cell repair of optic nerve injury,raising the controversies and unresolved issues surrounding the future of stem cells.

With the global ban on plastics intensifying, the substitution of plastic with paper has garnered increasing attention. However, the inadequate water and oil repellency of pulp molding hinders its practical applications. Currently, the common method to enhance the oil and water repellency of pulp molding is by adding fluorinated water and oil repellents. Nevertheless, fluorinated compounds are environmentally and physiologically harmful. Therefore, the development of fluorine-free, water and oil repellent alternatives is crucial. In this study, chitosan and stearic acid were utilized as the first and second layers of the oil and water repellent coatings, respectively. The coated samples exhibited favorable water repellency, with a water contact angle of 116.4°, and excellent oil repellency, achieving a 12/12 rating on the kit scale. Importantly, the samples did not exhibit any leakage after being soaked in hot water and hot oil at 95±5℃ for 30 min, demonstrating remarkable performance as a barrier against hot water and oil. Moreover, the coated samples displayed outstanding mechanical properties, thermal stability, biodegradability, and recyclability. The approach presented in this study is simple, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and represents a promising technique for producing fluoride-free, oil-and water-resistant pulp molding products.

Background Most studies on the association of maternal pregnancy weight with offspring weight trajectory have a short follow-up time.This study aimed to explore the associations of maternal prepregnancy body mass index(BMI)and gestational weight gain(GWG)with childhood weight trajectories in a 7-year birth cohort.Methods A total of 946 mother–child pairs(467 boys and 479 girls)from a longitudinal birth cohort in Tianjin City,China,were included in this study,ranging from pregnancy to offspring at 7 years.The outcome variable was defined as overweight or not overweight in offspring at the last round.A group-based trajectory model was applied to identify childhood BMI trajectory groups.Results Five discrete BMI trajectory groups were identified and characterized as constant underweight(25.2%),constant normal weight(42.8%),and high or increasing trajectory[at risk of overweight(16.9%),progressive overweight(11.0%)and progressive obesity(4.1%)].Maternal prepregnancy overweight was associated with 1.72(95%CI 1.14–2.60,P=0.01)to 4.02(95%CI 1.94–8.36,P<0.001)times the risk of all high or increasing trajectory groups,and excessive GWG was related to groups at risk of overweight[relative risk ratio(RRR)2.09,95%CI 1.27–3.46,P=0.004]and progressive obesity(RRR 3.33,95%CI 1.13–9.79,P=0.029).Children in all high or increasing trajectory groups were associated with greater overweight risk at the last round[risk ratios(RRs)ranged from 3.54(95%CI 2.53–4.95,P<0.001)to 6.18(95%CI 4.05–9.42,P<0.001)].Conclusion Maternal prepregnancy overweight and excessive gestational weight gain were associated with increasing or high-level childhood body mass index trajectories as well as a greater risk of overweight at 7 years.

BACKGROUND Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a serious disease causing human dementia and social problems.The quality of life and prognosis of AD patients have attracted much attention.The role of chronic immune inflammation in the pathogenesis of AD is becoming more and more important.AIM To study the relationship among cognitive dysfunction,abnormal cellular immune function,neuroimaging results and poor prognostic factors in patients.METHODS A retrospective analysis of 62 hospitalized patients clinical diagnosed with AD who were admitted to our hospital from November 2015 to November 2020.Collect cognitive dysfunction performance characteristics,laboratory test data and neuroimaging data from medical records within 24 h of admission,including Mini Mental State Examination Scale score,drawing clock test,blood T lymphocyte subsets,and neutrophils and lymphocyte ratio(NLR),disturbance of consciousness,extrapyramidal symptoms,electroencephalogram(EEG)and head nucleus magnetic spectroscopy(MRS)and other data.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent prog-nostic factors.the modified Rankin scale(mRS)was used to determine whether the prognosis was good.The correlation between drug treatment and prognostic mRS score was tested by the rank sum test.RESULTS Univariate analysis showed that abnormal cellular immune function,extrapyramidal symptoms,obvious disturbance of consciousness,abnormal EEG,increased NLR,abnormal MRS,and complicated pneumonia were related to the poor prognosis of AD patients.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the decrease in the proportion of T lym-phocytes in the blood after abnormal cellular immune function(odd ratio:2.078,95%confidence interval:1.156-3.986,P<0.05)was an independent risk factor for predicting the poor prognosis of AD.The number of days of donepezil treatment to improve cognitive function was negatively correlated with mRS score(r=0.578,P<0.05).CONCLUSION The decrease in the proportion of T lymphocytes may have predictive value for the po

Efficacy of Daoyin combined with lower limb robot as a comprehensive rehabilitation intervention for stroke patients: a randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of a comprehensive rehabilitation approach combining Traditional Chinese Medicine Daoyin with lower limb robotics during the recovery phase of stroke patients.METHODS: Stroke patients meeting the specified criteria were randomly assigned to one of four groups using a random number table: Control group, Daoyin group, lower limb robot group(LLR group), and Daoyin and lower limb robot group(DLLR group). Each group received distinct treatments based on conventional rehabilitation training.The treatment duration spanned two weeks with two days of rest per week. Pre-and post-intervention assessments included various scales: Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),Berg balance scale(BBS), Barthel index(BI), Fatigue Scale-14(FS-14), Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA), and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD).RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were observed in the lower limb function measured by FAM between the Control group(15 ± 5) and the DLLR group(18 ± 5)(P = 0.049). In the Barthel index, a statistically significant difference was noted between the Control group(54 ± 18) and the DLLR group(64 ± 11)(P = 0.041).Additionally, significant differences were found in the Berg balance scale between the Control group(21 ± 10)and the DLLR group(27 ± 8)(P = 0.024), as well as between the Control group(21 ± 10) and the LLR group(26 ± 10)(P = 0.048).CONCLUSION: The findings of this study suggest that the combined use of Daoyin and robotics not only enhances motor function in stroke patients but also has a positive impact on fatigue, sleep quality, and mood. This approach may offer a more effective rehabilitation strategy for stroke patients.

Nowadays,optimization techniques are required in various engineering domains to find optimal solutions for complex problems.As a result,there is a growing tendency among scientists to enhance existing nature-inspired algorithms using various evolutionary strategies and to develop new nature-inspired optimization methods that can properly explore the feature space.The recently designed nature-inspired meta-heuristic,named the Golden Jackal Optimization(GJO),was inspired by the collaborative hunting actions of the golden jackal in nature to solve various challenging problems.However,like other approaches,the GJO has the limitations of poor exploitation ability,the ease of getting stuck in a local optimal region,and an improper balancing of exploration and exploitation.To overcome these limitations,this paper proposes an improved GJO algorithm based on multi-strategy mixing(LGJO).First,using a chaotic mapping strategy to initialize the population instead of using random parameters,this algorithm can generate initial solutions with good diversity in the search space.Second,a dynamic inertia weight based on cosine variation is proposed to make the search process more realistic and effectively balance the algorithm's global and local search capabilities.Finally,a position update strategy based on Gaussian mutation was introduced,fully utilizing the guidance role of the optimal individual to improve population diversity,effectively exploring unknown regions,and avoiding the algorithm falling into local optima.To evaluate the proposed algorithm,23 mathematical benchmark functions,CEC-2019 and CEC2021 tests are employed.The results are compared to high-quality,well-known optimization methods.The results of the proposed method are compared from different points of view,including the quality of the results,convergence behavior,and robustness.The superiority and high-quality performance of the proposed method are demonstrated by comparing the results.Furthermore,to demonstrate its applicability,it is employed to solve four c
