Marine structures, such as Groynes, Sea walls and Detached Breakwaters, are constructed in coast of area to improve coast stability against bed erosions due to changing wave and current pattern. Marine mechanisms and interaction with the hydraulic structures need to be intensively studied. Groynes are one of the most prominent structures that are used in shore protection and littoral sediment. The main hydraulic function of the groyne is to control the long shore current and littoral sediment transport. This structure can be submerged and provide the necessary beach protection without negative aesthetic impact. however, for submerged structures adopted for beach protection, the shoreline response to these structures is not well understood. The objective of this study is to predict sediment transport in the vicinity of submerged groyne and comparison with non-submerged groyne focusing on a part of the coast at Dahane Sar Sefidrood, Guilan Province, Iran, where serious coast erosion has been occurred. The simulations were designed using a one-line model which can be used as a first approximation of shoreline prediction in the vicinity of groyne. The results of the proposed model are compared with experimental data to determine the shape of the coast. The results of predicted beach deformation show that when submerged groyne construct in the beach, sediment accumulation will be slightly less than the non-submerged groyne; because transfer coefficient for the submerged groyne is more than non-submerged groyne. This result will cause more sediment passing on submerged groyne. Finally, the result of the present study show that using submerged groyne is an efficient way to control the sediment and beach erosion without causing severe environmental effect on the coast.

Cu-TDPAT(h_(6)TDPAT=2,4,6-tris(3,5-dicarboxylphenylamino)-1,3,5-triazine),a stable nanoporous metal-organic framework with rht topology,has sparked broad interest as an adsorbent for several chemical separation *** this work,in situ synchrotron diffraction experiments followed by sequential LeBail refinements reveal that Cu-TDPAT shows unusually large anisotropic negative thermal expansion(NTE).The PASCal crystallography tool,used to analyze the magnitude of the NTE,reveals an average volumetric thermal expansion coefficientαv=-20.3 MK^(-1).This value is significantly higher than the one reported for Cu-BTC(also known as hKUST-1),which contains the same Cu-paddlewheel building unit,αv=-12 MK^(-1).In situ synchrotron single crystal X-ray diffraction and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy(DRIFTS)were employed to shed light on the NTE *** these two methods,we were able to elucidate the three main structural motions that are responsible for the NTE *** more pronounced NTE behavior of Cu-TDPAT is attributed to the lower symmetry combined with the more complex ligand structure when compared to *** knowledge obtained in this work is important for understanding the behavior of the adsorbent under transient variable temperature conditions in fixed adsorption beds.

AIM:To compare outcomes of applying preservative free artificial tears(PFAT)with and without hyaluronic acid(hA)in early postoperative course following photorefractive keratectomy(PRK).METhODS:In this triple-blinded randomized clinical trial,PRK procedure was performed on both eyes of 230 *** PRK,patients were divided into three groups:the hA^(+)group,44 patients PFAT containing hA;the hA-group,71 patients PFAT without hA were administered 5 times per day(every 4 h);the third group,115 patients received no PFAT before lens *** the 1st and 4th postoperative day,Visual Analogue Score(VAS)was utilized to evaluate patient’s level of *** were asked to complete a questionnaire about the severity of eye discomfort ranked from 0 to 10(0=no complaint;10=most severe complaint experienced).RESULTS:In eyes receiving PFAT with or without hA(Drop group),mean scores for epiphora,foreign body sensation,and blurred vision on the 1st postoperative day were statistically lower(Phe control group,FK was noted in 16(6.9%)eyes while 13(5.6%)eyes had RCE and 5(2.1%)eyes had corneal *** rate of complications was statistically lower in Drop group(P=0.009).however,the aforementioned scores were not statically different between hA^(+)and hA-group one and two(P=0.29).CONCLUSION:Following PRK,applying PFAT with and without hA yields faster visual recovery,decreases postoperative ocular discomfor t and haze formation;however there is no additive effect for hA.

The long-term performance and benefits of charcoal application on the carbon sequestration and properties of forest soils in temperate or non-tropical regions has not been studied in detail in spite of its important role in global warming. This study was conducted to describe the long-term charcoal-induced changes in organic carbon (OC) content and other soil properties of temperate deciduous forests in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. Three sites were sampled to collect composite soil samples from two depths (0–20 and 20–40 cm) inside and outside of a plot of charcoal-enriched soils surrounding a historical charcoal production site (abandoned for more than 120 years). The presence of charcoal in soils for about 120 years elevated significantly the black carbon, total OC, natural soil OC, total nitrogen, dissolved organic matter, soil OC density, exchangeable bases, saturated hydraulic conductivity, available water capacity and available Fe, Mn and Zn compared to the adjacent reference soils. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) and ph were 15.5 cmolc kg^-1 and 0.5 units, respectively, higher than the adjacent reference soils at 0–20 cm soil depth. however, electrical conductivity (EC), bulk density and available Cu were higher in the adjacent reference soil. The aged charcoal had no significant effect on the microbial respiration rate of studied soils. The results of this study provide new insights and strong support for the long-term benefits of biochar application as a management strategy for improving soil productivity as well as sequestering large quantities of durable carbon in soils of the region and mitigating global warming.

Effects of aspect ratio and inclination angle on aerodynamic loads of a flat plate

Large Eddy Simulations are carried out to analyze flow past flat plate in different configurations and inclinations.A thin flat plate is considered at three inclination angles(α=30°,60°and 90°)and three aspect ratios(AR=0.5,2 and 5).The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and chord length of the plate at different inclination angles varies between 75,000 to 150,*** increase in the inclination angle while the aspect ratio(span to chord)is constant results in higher drag and lower lift on the *** the aspect ratio at a constant inclination angle increases the mean aerodynamic loading except for theα=30°and AR=0.5 case where the mean forces are larger than the other aspect ratios for this specific inclination *** small aspect ratio suppresses and blocks the separation of the flow from the top and bottom edges causing larger aerodynamic forces relative to AR=2,*** of the flow structures shows the tip vortices have a significant role in controlling the shedding vortices from the top and bottom ***α=30°and AR=0.5,the two tip vortcies control and suppress the flow separation from the top and bottom edges.A stable wake was found for this case with no *** the aspect ratio increases,the influence of the tip vortices on flow separation from the top and bottom edges *** a result,larger fluctuations were found for cases with higher aspect ratios.

Lavender and dodder combined herbal syrup versus citalopram in major depressive disorder with anxious distress: A double-blind randomized trial

Background: Major depressive disorder(MDD) accompanied by anxious distress is a chronic and disabling disorder. Its conventional drug therapies often have low patient compliance due to drug-related side effects. In Persian medicine, lavender-dodder syrup is one formula often recommended for such ***: This study compares the effects of lavender-dodder syrup to the standard drug, citalopram, for treating MDD with anxious ***, setting, participants and intervention: This six-week, double-blind, randomized, clinical trial was carried out in a psychiatric outpatient clinic. During the six-week intervention period, patients in citalopram group received citalopram tablets 20 mg/d plus 5 mL placebo syrup every 12 h;patients in group B received placebo tablets once daily plus 5 mL of lavender-dodder herbal syrup every 12 *** outcome measures: Primary outcome measures, depression and anxiety, were evaluated using the hamilton Depression/Anxiety Rating Scales, and were scored at the beginning of the study and at weeks three and six. Secondary outcome measures including response to treatment and remission rates were also compared between the two ***: Fifty-six participants with MDD and anxious distress were randomly assigned to two *** depression scores significantly decreased in citalopram and herbal groups at weeks three and six(time effect: P hough the observed changes were not significantly different between the groups(intervention effect: P = 0.61). Mean anxiety scores were not significantly different between the two groups at week three(P = 0.75). however, at the end of week six, the observed decrease was significantly higher in the herbal syrup group than the citalopram group(intervention effect: P = 0.007).Conclusion: The herbal syrup is an effective and tolerable supplement for treating MDD with anxious *** registration number: IRCT2016102430459 N1 on Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials.

Objective:Germline mutations in mismatch repair(MMR)genes cause Lynch syndrome(LS).LS is an inherited disease,and an important consequence of MMR deficiency is microsatellite instability(MSI)*** phenotype influences the efficacy of5 fluorouracil(5-FU)***,cost effective,and easy to perform laboratory tests are required to include MSI detection in routine laboratory *** of CAT25 as monomorphic short tandem repeat sequence enables CAT25 to be an efficient screening tool among hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer(hNPCC)patients compared with other methods used ***:Based on Amsterdam II criteria,31 patients in 31 families were shortlisted from a total number of 1,659 colorectal cancer *** status was examined in these patients using CAT25 and a commercially available Promega MSI five-markerbased detection system as well as immunohistochemical(IhC)staining of four important MMR *** were scored as high microsatellite instable(MSI-h),low(MSI-L),or stable(MSS).MSI status determined by CAT25 single mononucleotide marker was compared with that of five mononucleotide markers,Promega commercial kit,and IhC ***:MMR protein deficiency was observed on 7/31 probands using IhC methodology and 6/31 categorized as MSI-h using commercial kit or CAT25 single *** sensitivity and specificity of the CAT25 single marker were the same as those detected by five-marker Promega commercial kit in our ***:Based on our results,the performance of the CAT25 single mononucleotide marker for MSI status determination in our hNPCC patients is the same as that of the five-marker-based commercial kit.
