BMI-Adjusted Tube Current in Chest CT and Comparison of Lifetime Attributable Risk (LAR) of Breast Cancer in Two Different BMI-Based Protocols

Possible strategies to reduce radiation dose during CT scanning have been investigated over recent decades;here the optimization of the tube current and its link with patient’s cancer incidence are being evaluated. 154 consecutive trauma patients with the need for chest CT scan were included. Two different BMI-adjusted CT protocols at a fixed voltage tube and the same scan length were applied. Dose estimation parameters like CT dose index (CTDI), dose length product (DLP) and effective breast dose were calculated. Breast surface dose was obtained by using thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLDs) and eventually, the life attributable risk (LAR) of cancer incidence was estimated. The mean effective dose was 4.87 ± 2.3 mSv and 5.12 ± 2.8 mSv for patients who were scanned with tube currents of 120 mAs and 200 mAs, respectively. There was no significant difference between organ surface doses for females but in males it was notable. The risk of cancer incidence is lower for protocol 1 in comparison with protocol 2. Optimizing tube current of 120 mAs reduced breast surface dose up to 50% in comparison with the tube current of 200 mAs. In trauma patients, using lower tube current based on BMI has notable impact on the absorbed dose in the breast and can reduce the breast cancer risk by nearly 33.6% for women.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the most important hospital infections in hospitalized patients, which is associated with increased mortality and patient costs. The tracheal tube itself seems to be a major risk factor for VAP. Contaminated secretions pass through the endotracheal tube and reach the lungs. Also, bacteria form a bacterial biofilm on the tracheal tube and are transferred from there to the lungs. Different tracheal tube designs have been produced to overcome these cases. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of an Evac tracheal tube covered with antibiotics and normal on the incidence of pneumonia caused by the ventilator. Research method: 180 patients were randomly intubated in three groups of 60 people with three types of tracheal tubes, Evac and Bactiguard. Clinical examinations, endotracheal tube aspiration culture, and chest radiography were obtained from the patients and the incidence of VAP was calculated based on the CPIS standard. The relationship between the type of endotracheal tube and the incidence of VAP and the length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and being discharged alive from the ICU were investigated. Findings and conclusions: The average incidence of VAP for the group of patients intubated with a conventional tracheal tube was 50%, EVAC was 45% and Bactiguard was 40%. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the incidence of ventilator-induced pneumonia and the type of tracheal tube. The incidence of ventilator-induced pneumonia was not significantly reduced by suctioning subglottic secretions and Bactiguard tracheal tubes. It seems that using one method alone is not effective in reducing ventilator-induced pneumonia.

Performance assessment of a spiral methanol to hydrogen fuel processor for fuel cell applications

A novel design of plate-type microchannel reactor has been developed for fuel cell-grade hydrogen *** Cu/Zn/Al2O3 was used as catalyst for the reforming reaction,and its effectiveness was evaluated on the mole fraction of products,methanol conversion,hydrogen yield and the amount of carbon monoxide under various operating ***,0.5 wt% Ru/Al2O3 as methanation catalyst was prepared by impregnation method and coupled with MSR step to evaluate the capability of methanol processor for CO *** on the experimental results,the optimum conditions were obtained as feed flow rate of 5mL/h and temperature of 250℃,leading to a low CO selectivity and high H2 *** designed reformer with catalyst coated layer was compared with the conventional packed bed reformer at the same operating *** constructed fuel processor had a good performance and excellent capability for on-board hydrogen production.

PREPARATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND ADHESIVE PROPERTIES OF DI-AND TRI-HYDROXY BENZOYL CHITOSAN NANOPARTICLES

Modified chitosans with 3,4-di-hydroxy benzoyl groups （CS-DHBA） and 3,4,5-tri-hydroxy benzoyl groups （CS- THBA） were synthesized and their nanoparticles were prepared via ionic crosslinking by tripolyphosphate （TPP）. The chemical structure and degree of substitution （DS） of di- and tri-hydroxy benzoyl chitosans are determined by FTIR and IH- NMR spectroscopy. The morphology of particles, size distribution and zeta potential of nanoparticles were studied using transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and dynamic light scattering （DLS）, respectively. The mean diameters of particles of CS-DHBA and CS-THBA nanoparticles were 144 nm and 112 nm, respectively. It was found that the particles size decreased slightly with decreasing the degree of substitution and increasing degree of deacetylation （DD）, due to increasing of ionic crosslinking of ammonium ions and polyanions of tripolyphosphate. The TEM photographs of CS-DHBA show that these particles are spherical in shape, but the particles of CS-THBA show some aggregation. In addition, the solubility and the mechanical properties of the prepared modified chitosans and their nanoparticles were evaluated for bio-adhesive and biomedical application. The results of solubility tests indicated that, the CS-DHBA and CS-THBA have higher solubility at pH 〉 7 comparing to CS. Also the CS-DHBA, CS-THBA and their nanoparticles showed a significant adhesive capacity and enhanced tensile strength and tensile modulus.

Optimization of hydrothermal synthesis of H-ZSM-5 zeolite for dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether using full factorial design

H-ZSM-5 zeolite was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The effects of different synthesis parameters, such as hydrothermal crystallization temperature （170-190 ℃） and Si/A1 molar ratio （100-150）, on the catalytic performance of the dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether （DME） over the synthesized H-ZSM-5 zeolite were studied. The catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, NH3-TPD, TGA/DTA, and SEM techniques. The full factorial design of experiments was applied to the synthesis of H-ZSM-5 zeolite and the effects of synthesis conditions and their interaction on the yield of DME as the response variable were determined. Analysis of variance showed that two variables and their interaction significantly affected the response. According to the experimental results, the optimized catalyst prepared at 170℃ with the Si/A1 molar ratio of 100 showed the best catalytic performance among the tested H-ZSM-5 zeolite.

Synthesis of nanocrystalline γ-Al_2O_3 by sol-gel and precipitation methods for methanol dehydration to dimethyl ether

The capability of sol-gel and conventional precipitation techniques for the synthesis of nanocrystalline γ-alumina was investigated. These catalysts were used for vapor-phase dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether in a fixed-bed reactor under the same operating conditions （T = 300 ？C, P = 1 bar, LHSV = 2.8, 11.7, 26.1 h？1） and characterized by means of N2 adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, XRD, TGA and SEM techniques. According to the experimental results, the catalysts prepared using sol-gel method in non-aqueous medium showed better performance compared with those prepared by other methods.

Synthesis of highly selective and stable mesoporous Ni-Ce/SAPO-34 nanocatalyst for methanol-to-olefin reaction:Role of polar aprotic N,N-dimethylformamide solvent

A series of mesoporous nanocrystalline silicoaluminophosphate (SAPO)zeolites (SAPO-34)were synthesized via an ultrasonic and microwave-assisted hydrothermal method in the presence of [3- (trimethoxysilyl)propyl]octadecyldimethylammonium chloride and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactants as soft *** and cerium were then doped on SAPO-34using incorporation and impregnation methods,and all the catalysts were applied to the methanol-to-olefin (MTO)reaction. The catalysts were characterized using X-ray diffraction,field-emission scanning electron microcopy, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy,Fourier- transform infrared spectroscopy,Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis,NH3temperature-programmed desorption analysis,and thermogravimetric *** the impregnation method,the effect of using protic or aprotic solvents as impregnation media on the physico-chemical properties of the metal-based SAPO-34was *** and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF)were employed as the protic and aprotic solvents,*** catalyst prepared using the aprotic DMF solvent exhibited higher dispersion and lower aggregation of metal species compared with that prepared using the protic water ***,the sample synthesized using the incorporation method exhibited good catalytic performance;however,the Ni-Ce[SAPO-34 sample prepared using the impregnation method and aprotic DMF solvent exhibited superior catalytic performance in the MTO reaction.

Distributed DC-Bus Signaling Control of Photovoltaic Systems in Islanded DC Microgrid

The stability of an islanded DC microgrid(DCMG)is highly dependent on the presence and performance of the backup energy storage system(BESS),due to the lack of main grid *** condition makes the DCMG vulnerable to the critical situation of absence of the BESS,which could be caused by a fault or being fully charged or *** paper presents an enhanced distributed DC-bus signaling control strategy for converters of photovoltaic systems(PVs)to make the islanded DCMG less dependent on the *** a conventional control approach that utilizes PVs to operate in maximum power point tracking(MPPT)mode and the BESS solely regulating DC-bus voltage,the proposed control method maintains DC-bus voltage via intelligently managing output powers of the *** proposed control method continuously monitors DC-bus voltage and regulates the output powers of all the PVs via switching between MPPT mode and voltage regulating ***,if the DC-bus voltage level is less than a predefined maximum level,the PVs work in MPPT mode;otherwise,the PVs work in voltage regulating mode to maintain DC-bus voltage at an acceptable *** switching between MPPT and voltage regulating control operations results in protecting the DCMG from unavoidable shutdowns conventionally necessary during the absence of the BESS ***,the proposed control method reduces oscillations on the DC-bus voltage during existence of the *** performance and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are validated through different case studies in MATLAB/Simulink.

Viscosity prediction in selected Iranian light oil reservoirs:Artificial neural network versus empirical correlations

Viscosity is a parameter that plays a pivotal role in reservoir fluid estimations. Several approaches have been presented in the literature （Beal, 1946; Khan et al, 1987; Beggs and Robinson, 1975; Kartoatmodjo and Schmidt, 1994; Vasquez and Beggs, 1980; Chew and Connally, 1959; Elsharkawy and Alikhan, 1999; Labedi, 1992） for predicting the viscosity of crude oil. However, the results obtained by these methods have significant errors when compared with the experimental data. In this study a robust artificial neural network （ANN） code was developed in the MATLAB software environment to predict the viscosity of Iranian crude oils. The results obtained by the ANN and the three well-established semi-empirical equations （Khan et al, 1987; Elsharkawy and Alikhan, 1999; Labedi, 1992） were compared with the experimental data. The prediction procedure was carried out at three different regimes： at, above and below the bubble-point pressure using the PVT data of 57 samples collected from central, southern and offshore oil fields of lran. It is confirmed that in comparison with the models previously published in literature, the ANN model has a better accuracy and performance in predicting the viscosity of Iranian crudes.
