Effects of application date and rate of foliar-applied glyphosate on pine seedlings in Turkey

Glyphosate is the herbicide most extensively used for site preparation and conifer release. It is a broadspectrum herbicide and therefore crop safety is a critical issue. This study assessed the early effects of 14 different treatments, including no weed control, manual weed control, and 12 foliar-applied herbicide treatments at low,intermediate, high, and highest application rates and application timing on glyphosate phytotoxicity of containerized seedlings of Austrian pine(Pinus nigra ***.), Scots pine(P. sylvestris L.) and maritime pine(*** Aiton), conifer species widely used for afforestation and supplementary plantings in Turkish forestry. In general, Scots pine seedlings were tolerant to glyphosate compared to the other species. Glyphosate phytotoxicity varied significantly according to the time and rate of application. Seedlings were relatively tolerant to glyphosate in April whereas they were intolerant in May. The highest herbicide rate(1.2% v:v) was consistently phytotoxic to all species. Moreover, the effect of herbicide rate on seedling survival and growth varied significantly according to application date(i.e., application rate 9 date interaction). Seedlings appeared tolerant to glyphosate at low and intermediate rates(0.2, 0.4% v:v) between midspring and mid-summer, whereas they demonstrated significant sensitivity to the highest rate across all time periods. Glyphosate at the high rate(0.8% v:v) was particularly more phytotoxic when applied in May. Application of glyphosate at rates up to 0.8% could be recommended for weed control without significant pine damage in midspring when the needles presumably have a dense leaf epicuticular wax layer limiting herbicide *** of 0.8 and 1.2% v:v are not recommended during May–June.

Investigation of Single-Wall MoS_2 Monolayer Flakes Grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition

Recently, two-dimensional monolayer molybdenum disulfide(MoS_2), a transition metal dichalcogenide, has received considerable attention due to its direct bandgap, which does not exist in its bulk form, enabling applications in optoelectronics and also thanks to its enhanced catalytic activity which allows it to be used for energy harvesting. However,growth of controllable and high-quality monolayers is still a matter of research and the parameters determining growth mechanism are not completely clear. In this work, chemical vapor deposition is utilized to grow monolayer MoS_2 flakes while deposition duration and temperature effect have been systematically varied to develop a better understanding of the MoS_2 film formation and the influence of these parameters on the quality of the monolayer flakes. Different from previous studies, SEM results show that single-layer MoS_2 flakes do not necessarily grow flat on the surface, but rather they can stay erect and inclined at different angles on the surface, indicating possible gas-phase reactions allowing for monolayer film formation. We have also revealed that process duration influences the amount of MoO_3/MoO_2 within the film network. The homogeneity and the number of layers depend on the change in the desorption–adsorption of radicals together with sulfurization rates, and, inasmuch, a careful optimization of parameters is crucial. Therefore, distinct from the general trend of MoS_2 monolayer formation, our films are rough and heterogeneous with monolayer MoS_2 nanowalls. Despite this roughness and the heterogeneity, we observe a strong photoluminescence located around 675 nm.

This study aimed to investigate the site characterization of the Senirkent Basin(Isparta)by using the microtremor(H/V)and surface wave analysis(ReMi)*** district,which is located on the foothill of the Kap?Mountain,are prone to seismic and landslide *** the last landslip disaster(1995),the city has continued to develop on the alluvial *** microtremor data collected at 41 stations were *** predominant frequency and the amplification of the soil were found to be in the range of 1.8–6.6 Hz and 0.8–6.8,*** are 4.0-6.8 Hz and 1-2.5 around the slope of the Kap?Mountain and 0.8-3.6 Hz and 3.0-6.6 at alluvium deposits of the *** ReMi data collected along 41 profiles were analyzed to obtain a Vs30 *** soil classifications were done by using Vs30 values according to NEHRP soil classification *** results showed that the southern area of the study had better soil conditions with Vs30 between 360-1160 m/s and soil class between C and *** alluvium deposits on the north are relatively low with Vs30 in the range of 260-360 m/s and soil class D.

The impact of macular surgery in different grades of epiretinal membrane

AIM：To assess the impact of macular surgery on the functional and anatomic outcomes of the patients in different grades of epiretinal membrane（ERM）.METHODS：Seventy-one eyes of 71 patients who underwent 23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless pars plana vitrectomy for primary isolated ERM were evaluated in this ***：There were 38 females（53.5%） and 33 males（46.5%）.The average age of the patients was 68.1 y（range 42-89 y）.Mean follow up period was 14 mo（range 6-26 mo）.The cases were divided into two subgroups of cellophane maculopathy（CM） and macular pucker（MP）.An improvement was observed in the postoperative best-corrected visual acuity（BCVA）,as well as a decrement in central foveal thickness（CFT） in both groups（both of these being statistically significant;P=0.001）.In comparison between two groups,it was found that there was a significant improvement on BCVA and CFT in CM group than MP group（P=0.01）.Furthermore,the postoperative fundus findings regarding RPE alterations and macular edema were significantly higher in MP group when compared to the CM group（P=0.01）.CONCLuSION：ERM and internal limiting membrane peeling surgery can lead to a significant reduction of CFT and visual improvements in idiopathic ERM.A long-term ERM persistence will cause unrecoverable retinal damage and visual loss.

In this study,our aim was to examine the diagnostic and prognostic significance of lymphocyte/C-reactiveprotein ratio(LCR),neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and D-dimer parameters in COVID-19 *** LCR,NLR,neutrophil count,mean platelet volume(MPV),C-reactive protein(CRP),and D-dimer parameters wereevaluated *** was a retrospective cohort study with 1000 COVID-19 positive and 1000 healthycontrol groups,all over the age of 18 *** ratio(OR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)values were calculatedfor each parameter found to be statistically significant in the univariate and multivariate logistic regression ***,127(12.7%)of the COVID-19^(+)patients,whose data was included in this study,*** neutrophil,MPV,CRP,D-dimer,and NLR values were higher in the COVID-19^(+)/deceased group than in the COVID-19^(+)/alive andcontrol groups(pues were lower inthe COVID-19^(+)/deceased group than in the COVID-19^(+)/alive and control groups(pariableswith statistically significance in predicting COVID-19 infection were lymphocyte,LCR,D-dimer,NLR,CRP,MPV,PLT,and neutrophil *** significant variables in predicting mortality due to COVID-19 were LCR,CRP,NLR,lymphocyte,D-dimer,neutrophil,and MPV values.A low LCR and high NLR are associated with thepresence,prognosis,and mortality due to *** and NLR parameters can thus be used in clinicalmonitoring to reduce morbidity and mortality rates.

Identification of pulse-like ground motions using artificial neural network

For more than 20 years,the concept of near-fault pulse-like ground motion has been a topic of great interest due to its distinct characteristics,particularly due to directivity or fling effects,which are hugely influenced by the rupture *** unexpected characteristics,along with their effective frequency,energy rate,and damage indices,create a near-fault,pulse-like ground motion capable of causing severe damage to *** of the most common approaches for identifying these ground motions is done by conducting wavelet decomposition of the ground motion time history to extract a pulse signal and eventually categorize an earthquake by comparing the original signal to the residual ***,to overcome the intensive calculations required in this approach,this study proposes using artificial neural networks to identify pulse-like ground motions through classification to predict their pulse period by means of regression ***,the study is intended to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of various artificial neural networks in identifying pulse-like ground motions and predicting their pulse *** general,the results of the study have shown that the artificial neural network can identify pulse-like earthquakes and reliably predict their pulse period.

Impact of COVID-19 on the food supply chain

A pandemic is not a new event encountered in the history of humanity because mankind has faced various pandemics in history. The common point of pandemics is their serious negative effects on the global economy. Considering the food supply chain, one of the most important sectors of the economy, it has been seen that COVID-19 has an impact on the whole process from the field to the consumer. In the light of recent challenges in food supply chain, there is now considerable concern about food production, processing, distribution, and demand. COVID-19 resulted in the movement restrictions of workers, changes in demand of consumers, closure of food production facilities, restricted food trade policies, and financial pressures in food supply chain. Therefore, governments should facilitate the movement of workers and agri-food products. In addition, small farmers or vulnerable people should be supported financially. Facilities should change the working conditions and maintain the health and safety of employees by altering safety measures. Food protectionist policies should be avoided to prevent an increase in food prices. In conclusion, each country must realize the severity of the situation and sometimes should tighten or loosen the measures according to the spread of the pandemic. The supply chain also should be flexible enough to respond to the challenges in the food supply chain. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the agriculture and food sector and to summarize the recommendations required to reduce and control the effect of the pandemic.

Balo's concentric sclerosis in a patient with spontaneous remission based on magnetic resonance imaging:A case report and review of literature

Balo's concentric sclerosis(BCS) is a rare monophasic demyelinating disease known as multiple sclerosis subtype and seen as a round lesion with variable hyper and hypodetoxification layers. Characteristic appearance can be seen as "bulb eye" or "onion bulb". The initial terminology for this neurological disorder was leukoencephalitis periaxialis concentrica; this is defined as a disease in which the white matter of the brain is destroyed in concentric layers in such a way as to leave the axial cylinders intact. This report presents a case of BCS with spontaneous healing of the patient and a mass lesion with concentric rings adjacent to the left lateral ventricle and the posterior portion of the corpus callosum with peripheral vasogenic edema. The neurological lesion of the patient was similar to the magnetic resonance imaging and clinical findings of the BCS.

The fatty acid compositions of predator Piocoris luridus （Heteroptera： Lygaeidae） and its host Monosteria unicostata （Heteroptera： Tingidae） reared on almond

The changes in fatty acid compositions during nutritional interaction among almond Amygdalus communis Linnaeus （Rosales： Rosaceae）（host plant）, lacebug Monosteria unicostata （Mulsant and Rey）（Heteroptera： Tingidae） and its predator Piocoris luridus Fieber （Heteroptera： Lygaeidae） were determined by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses. The fatty acid profiles of phospholipids and triacylglycerols were substantially different. unlike the general observations for virtually most terrestrial insects, arachidonic and eicosapentaenoic acids were detected in high proportions of phospholipid fractions in both insects, especially in P. luridus. Also the almond tissues provide very little oleic acid to the herbivore diet, yet both insect species developed high proportions of this component. Our data reveals instances of specific accumulation of fatty acid biosynthesis, elongation/desaturation, and not incorporating selected fatty acids into cellular lipids.
