Dermoid cysts are uncommon congenital or acquired developmental cystic malformations that were usually seen in the midline of frontal region and the anterior fontanel. Congenital forms develop from the remnants of the epithelium or ectodermal membranous bone growth line. We report here a case of a congenital frontal dermoid cyst that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of lipoma and neurofibroma. Dermoid cysts should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all nodular cyst-like lesions in the head and neck region. Early recognition and accurate diagnosis by means of Computerized Tomography scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilitate successful treatment.

This work studies the optimum reductive leaching process for manganese and zinc recovery from spent alkaline battery paste. The effects of reducing agents, acid concentration, pulp density, reaction temperature, and leaching time on the dissolution of manganese and zinc were investigated in detail. Manganese dissolution by reductive acidic media is an intermediate-controlled process with an activation energy of 12.28 kJ＇mo1-1. After being leached, manganese and zinc were selectively precipitated with sodium hydroxide. The zinc was entirely con- verted into zincate （Zn（OH）42-） ions and thus did not co-precipitate with manganese hydroxide during this treatment （2.0 M NaOH, 90 min, 200 r/rain, pH 〉 13）. After the manganese was removed from the solution, the Zn（OH）4^2- was precipitated as zinc sulfate in the presence of sulfuric acid. The results indicated that this process could be effective in recovering manganese and zinc from alkaline batteries.

Objective: To investigate the presence, prevalence and phylogenetic classification of bovine torovirus(BToV). Methods: Stool samples from 72 calves, which were negative for primary gastroenteritis agents, were examined with the nested PCR method by using BToV M genespecific primers. Results: BToV was detected in 12(16.7%) out of 72 samples. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using nucleotide and amino acid sequences. In the phylogenetic tree, European, American, Far East and Turkish strains were found to be divided into different branches. Interestingly, it was observed that Turkish strains were divided into two subgroups. Considering the amino acid sequences of these strains having differences at nucleotide level, the change at the 3rd amino acid of the partial M gene in Turkish strains has made Turkish strains different from all other strains. Similarly, the differences were observed in the 18th, 20th, 63rd and 93rd amino acids of the partial M gene only in Turkish field strains. Conclusions: This study revealed that Turkish strains of BToV constitute a separate phylogenetic group and can be divided into two subgroups. In addition, BToV was found to be a common pathogen causing diarrhea in calves in Turkey, and it is a necessity to consider BToV in cases of diarrhea with unknown cause.

Natural gases obtained from different regions in the world as Scholen-Germany, Saudi Arabia and Iran were purified with a package code and the obtained results were compared in this study. For purification process, both natural gases flowing in a vertical pipe and monoethanolamine （MEA） flowing as a film from the internal surface of a pipe were examined together. Both fluids were flown in a vertical and laminar regime. Binary diffusion coefficients, Schmidt numbers （Sc） and dynamical viscosities were calculated individually for three types of natural gases. It is demonstrated that the chemical absorption method by MEA process is the most appropriate method at high DamkOhler （Da） numbers particularly for natural gases containing high concentrations of CO2 and H2S.

Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative,anti-angiogenic,and apoptotic effects of extracts of Achillea biebersteinii(ABE)and combined treatments of ABE with 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)on HT-29 ***:The effects of ABE,5-FU,and combined treatments on the viability of HT-29 cells were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** analysis was used to determine synergism between ABE and *** apoptotic and anti-angiogenic effects were determined by cell death detection and human vascular endothelial growth factor ELISA method,*** and translational expressions of p53,Bax,Bcl-2,p38 MAPK,Akt,PTEN,and m TOR were also evaluated by real-time PCR and Western blotting ***:ABE decreased the viability of HT-29 cells in a dosedependent *** treatment of hexane,chloroform,and methanol extracts of Achillea biebersteinii with 5-FU at IC50 doses decreased the cell viability to 26.0%,19.1%,and 14.9%,respectively(P<0.001).Furthermore,ABE treatment alone and combination with 5-FU,induced apoptosis,significantly downregulated m TOR,Akt,Bcl-2 expression,upregulated p53,Bax,PTEN,p38 MAPK expression,and exhibited anti-angiogenetic ***:Our findings indicate that ABE shows synergism with 5-FU and inhibits the proliferation of HT-29 cells by inducing apoptosis and suppressing angiogenesis,which may provide biological evidence for further use of ABE in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) ranked third in cancer related death and its incidence has been increasing worldwide. In recent decades important therapeutic advances have been developed in treatment of metastatic CRC(mCRC), such as monoclonal antibodies against epidermal growth factor receptor(anti-EGFR), which provided additional clinical benefits in mCRC. However, anti-EGFR therapies have limited usage due to approximately 95% of patients with KRAS mutated mCRC do not response to anti-EGFR treatment. Thus, KRAS mutation is predictive of nonresponse to anti-EGFR therapies but it alone is not a sufficient basis to decide who should not be received such therapies because; approximately fifty percent(40%-60%) of CRC patients with wild-type KRAS mutation also have poor response to anti-EGFR based treatment. This fact leads us to suspect that there must be other molecular determinants of response to anti-EGFR therapies which have not been identified yet. Current article summarizes the clinical efficacy of anti-EGFR therapies and also evaluates its resistance mechanisms.

AIM:To determine the association between Helicobacter pylori(***)and globus sensation(GS)in the patients with cervical inlet patch. METHODS:Sixty-eight patients with esophageal inlet patches were identified from 6760 consecutive patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy *** these 68 patients with cervical inlet patches, symptoms of globus sensation(lump in the throat), hoarseness,sore throat,frequent clearing of the throat,cough,dysphagia,odynophagia of at least 3 mo duration was questioned prior to endoscopy. RESULTS:Cervical heterotopic gastric mucosa(CHGM) was found in 68 of 6760 *** endoscopic prevalence of CHGM was determined to be 1%.*** was identified in 16(23.5%)of 68 patients with inlet patch.53 patients were classified as CHGMⅡ.This group included 48 patients with globus sensation,4 patients with chronic cough and 1 patient with *** the patients who were ***(+)in cervical inlet patches had globus ***:Often patients with CHGM have a long history of troublesome throat *** speculate that disturbances in globus sensation are like non-ulcer dyspepsia.

Alteration of sister chromatid exchange frequencies in gastric cancer and chronic atrophic gastritis patients with and without H pylori infection

AIM: To determine, by counting sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequencies, whether genetic impairment and DNA damage have an effect on the pathogenesis of gastric cancer (GC). METHODS: Analysis of SCE is a cytogenetic technique used to show DNA damage as a result of an exchange of DNA fragments between sister chromatids. We analyzed SCE frequency in 24 patients with GC, 26 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), and 15 normal controls. The presence of H pylori was confirmed by urease test, toluidine-blue stain and hematoxylin-eosin stain. RESULTS: SCE was significantly increased in H pylori- negative GC patients, and in H pylori-negative CAG patients compared with controls (7.41 ± 1.36 and 6.92 ± 1.20, respectively, vs 5.54 ± 0.8, P 0.05). On other hand, the SCE frequencies in H pylori-positive GC patients were higher than those in H pylori-positive CAG patients (9.20 ± 0.94 vs 7.93 ± 0.81, P < 0.01). Furthermore, H pylori-positive GC patients had a higher SCE frequency than H pylori- negative GC patients (9.20 ± 0.94 vs 7.41 ± 1.36, P < 0.001). Similarly, a significant difference was detected between H pylori-positive CAG patients and H pylori-negative CAG patients (7.93 ± 0.81 vs 6.92 ± 1.20, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: We suggest the increased SCE in patients reflects a genomic instability that may be operative in gastric carcinogenesis.

Efficient Plant Regeneration with Arabinogalactan-Proteins on Various Ploidy Levels of Cereals

To determine the most effective dose of arabinogalactan-protein （AGP） in regeneration medium, mature embryos of genotypes in three different ploidy levels （Triticum aestivum L. cv. Ikizce-96, Triticum durum Desf. cv. Mirzabey and Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Tokak） were used to establish an efficient plant regeneration system for cereals. Percentage of callus production, capacity of regeneration were calculated, and also culture effect, root, stem, and total plant length of regenerant plants were observed in six different regeneration media （MS control, MS＋2, 5, 7, 10, 12 mg L-1 AGP） in these three different genotypes. According to the results, the highest amount of callus production was found in Ikizce-96 as 93.75% using 5 mg L-1 dicamba and 1 mg L-1 kinetin in induction medium. However, the most improved callus was observed in diploid barley Tokak as 179.95 mg in weight and 6.18 mm in diameter, respectively. The highest regeneration capacity was observed in the dose of 5 mg L-1 AGP in MS of all the genotypes and hexaploid wheat Ikizce-96 gave the best results with the highest regeneration capacity and culture effects （94.86 and 92.5%） in the same dose of AGE These results indicated that effective dose of AGP in regeneration medium increase plant regeneration in calli derived from cereal mature embryos.
