AIM: To evaluate the visual acuity and endothelial cell density according to the thickness in Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty(DSAEK)one year after ***: DSAEK patients’ data were reviewed. Thirty seven eyes of 37 patients who underwent DSAEK for pseudophakic bullous keratopathy(PBK) were included in this study. Graft thickness was measured with optical coherence tomography(OCT) 12 mo after DSAEK. Eyes were divided into 3 groups based on the graft thickness:thick(>200 μm), medium-thick(150-200 μm) and thin(<150 μm). Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),endothelial cells density(ECD) and complications were assessed and comparisons were done between ***: Median thickness of postoperative grafts was 188(range 73-317 μm). There was no significant difference in age, sex, preoperative BCVA, or follow-up period between DSAEK groups. At postoperative 12 mo,mean BCVA was 0.28±0.10 in thick graft group, 0.52±0.08 in medium-thick graft group, and 0.72 ±0.06 in thin graft group. Thin grafts showed better postoperative BCVA as compared with the medium-thick and thick grafts(P =0.001). Thick graft group had 1637.44 ±88.19-mm2,medium thick graft had 1764.50±34.28-mm2 and thin graft group had 1845.30 ±65.62-mm2. Thin graft group had better ECD at 12 mo after surgery(P =0.001).CONCLUSION: Thin grafts after DSAEK ensure better visual rehabilitation. Eyes with thin grafts had significantly lesser loss of ECD compared to eyes withmedium-thick and thick grafts one year after surgery.

Natural gases obtained from different regions in the world as Scholen-Germany, Saudi Arabia and Iran were purified with a package code and the obtained results were compared in this study. For purification process, both natural gases flowing in a vertical pipe and monoethanolamine （MEA） flowing as a film from the internal surface of a pipe were examined together. Both fluids were flown in a vertical and laminar regime. Binary diffusion coefficients, Schmidt numbers （Sc） and dynamical viscosities were calculated individually for three types of natural gases. It is demonstrated that the chemical absorption method by MEA process is the most appropriate method at high DamkOhler （Da） numbers particularly for natural gases containing high concentrations of CO2 and H2S.

Encapsulation of potential bioactive natural substances is a promising preservation method for the natural additives over the synthetic antixodiants. In this study, ionic gelation has been used to encapsulate the Moringa oleifera leaf extract in biopolymers. Automatic solvent extraction was used to extract active material from the plant. Then, the active material was covered by chitosan/alginate via ionic gelation. Ionic gelation system was designed and optimized by Central Composite design of Response Surface Method (RSM). Exposure time to gelling medium (10–30 min), sodium alginate concentration (1%–2%, w/v) and chitosan concentration (0.5%–1%, w/v) were process parameters to be optimized for the maximum encapsulation efficiency concerning total phenolic content (EETPC ), rutin (major individual compound) concentration and inhibition effect of the capsules against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate) free radical. Particle shape and morphology of the dried microcapsules show that the capsules obtained are quite spherical, uniform and have a regular structure depending on stereo-microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyzes.

In this paper, we show that a(2, 3) discrete variable threshold quantum secret sharing scheme of secure direct communication can be achieved based on recurrence using the same devices as in BB84. The scheme is devised by first placing the shares of smaller secret pieces into the shares of the largest secret piece, converting the shares of the largest secret piece into corresponding quantum state sequences, inserting nonorthogonal state particles into the quantum state sequences with the purpose of detecting eavesdropping, and finally sending the new quantum state sequences to the three participants respectively. Consequently, every particle can on average carry up to 1.5-bit messages due to the use of recurrence. The control codes are randomly prepared using the way to generate fountain codes with pre-shared source codes between Alice and Bob, making three participants can detect eavesdropping by themselves without sending classical messages to Alice. Due to the flexible encoding, our scheme is also dynamic, which means that it allows the participants to join and leave freely.

Plasmonic mode mixing in nanoparticle dimers with nm-separations via substrate-mediated coupling

We fabricate arrays of metallic nanoparticle dimers with nanometer separation using electron beam lithography and angle evaporation. These ＂nanogap＂ dimers are fabricated on thin silicon nitride membranes to enable high resolution transmission electron microscope imaging of the specific nanoparticle geometries. Plasmonic resonances of the pairs are characterized by dark-field scattering micro-spectroscopy, which enables the optical scattering from individual nano- structures to be measured by using a spatially-filtered light source to illuminate a small area. Scattering spectra from individual dimers are correlated with transmis- sion electron microscope images and finite-difference time-domain simulations of their electromagnetic response, with excellent agreement between simulation and experiment. We observe a strong polarization dependence with two dominant scattering peaks in spectra taken with the polarization aligned along the dimer axis. This response arises from a unique Fano interference, in which the bright hybridized modes of an asymmetric dimer are able to couple to the dark higher- order hybridized modes through substrate-mediated coupling. The presence of this interference is strongly dependent on the nanoparticle geometry that defines the plasmon energy profile but also on the intense localization of charge at the dielectric surface in the nanogap region for separations smaller than 6 nm.

Objective:To investigate the antiproliferative,anti-angiogenic,and apoptotic effects of extracts of Achillea biebersteinii(ABE)and combined treatments of ABE with 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)on HT-29 ***:The effects of ABE,5-FU,and combined treatments on the viability of HT-29 cells were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide *** analysis was used to determine synergism between ABE and *** apoptotic and anti-angiogenic effects were determined by cell death detection and human vascular endothelial growth factor ELISA method,*** and translational expressions of p53,Bax,Bcl-2,p38 MAPK,Akt,PTEN,and m TOR were also evaluated by real-time PCR and Western blotting ***:ABE decreased the viability of HT-29 cells in a dosedependent *** treatment of hexane,chloroform,and methanol extracts of Achillea biebersteinii with 5-FU at IC50 doses decreased the cell viability to 26.0%,19.1%,and 14.9%,respectively(P<0.001).Furthermore,ABE treatment alone and combination with 5-FU,induced apoptosis,significantly downregulated m TOR,Akt,Bcl-2 expression,upregulated p53,Bax,PTEN,p38 MAPK expression,and exhibited anti-angiogenetic ***:Our findings indicate that ABE shows synergism with 5-FU and inhibits the proliferation of HT-29 cells by inducing apoptosis and suppressing angiogenesis,which may provide biological evidence for further use of ABE in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Eleven plant species were collected from the vicinity of lead-battery plant in the city of Gaziantep,***,cadmium and copper concentrations in the soil and leaves of plants were determined by atomic absorption ***,Cd and Cu concentrations in the soil samples taken from battery area were found to be in the ranges of 304～602,0.4～0.44 and 31～37 mg·kg-1,*** increased lead concentration up to 2 750 mg·kg-1 was found in the leaves of Eleagnus angustifolia *** lead concentrations in the other plant leaves taken from 50 m around battery factory followed the order Ailanthus altissima>Morus sp.>Juglans regia L.>Ficus carica L.>Cydonia oblonga Miller>Prunus x domestica *** plants,Populus nigra L.,Eleagnus angustifolia *** Salix *** found useful for Cd,and the plant,Eleagnus angustifolia *** Pb,to be considered as potential ***,leaves of trees and plants taken from the distance of 50 m from battery plant have relatively higher Pb ***,people who and animals which live in this area and benefit from these soil and plants have vital risks.

BACKGROUND ground Aspiration and evaluation of gastric residuals are commonly performed interventions before each feeding in intensive care units,especially in very low birthweight ***,there is no sufficient evidence about the necessity of routine gastric residual *** this study,we aimed to investigate the time to full enteral intake and the incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis(NEC)in preterm infants in the period with gastric residual aspiration performed before each feeding,and those in the period without gastric residual *** Preterm infants with a gestational week≤33 were included in the *** group with gastric residual control before each feeding consisted of 169 infants,and the group without routine gastric residual aspiration included 122 *** The mean gestational week was 30.37±2.58 and 29.31±3.37 in the group with gastric residual control and in the group without routine residual control,respectively(p<0.05).Birth weight,male gender,and mode of delivery were similar between both *** time to full enteral intake was shorter in the group without routine residual control(p<0.05).Total durations of parenteral nutrition,≥grade 2 NEC,weight at discharge and duration of hospitalization were similar between the *** of invasive mechanical ventilator support was shorter in the group without routine residual *** Avoidance of routine gastric residual aspiration in preterm infants shortens the time to full enteral intake without increasing the incidence of NEC.
