Design and performance testing of a novel building integrated photovoltaic thermal roofing panel

A novel building integrated photovoltaic thermal(BIPVT)roofing panel has been designed considering both solar energy harvesting efficiency and thermal *** thermal system reduces the operating temperature of the cells by means of a hydronic loop integrated into the backside of the panel,thus resulting in maintaining the efficiency of the solar panels at their feasible peak while also harvesting the generated heat for use in the *** performance of the proposed system has been evaluated using physical experiments by conducting case studies to investigate the energy harvesting efficiency,thermal performance of the panel,and temperature differences of inlet/outlet working liquid with various liquid flow *** physical experiments have been simulated by coupling the finite element method(FEM)and finite volume method(FVM)for heat and mass transfer in the *** show that the thermal system successfully reduced the surface temperature of the solar module from 88℃to as low as 55℃.Accordingly,the output power that has been decreased from 14.89 W to 10.69 W can be restored by 30.2%to achieve 13.92 *** the other hand,the outlet water from this hydronic system reaches 45.4℃which can be used to partially heat domestic water ***,this system provides a versatile framework for the design and optimization of the BIPVT systems.

The Formulation of Finite Difference RBFWENO Schemes for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws:An Alternative Technique

To solve conservation laws,efficient schemes such as essentially nonoscillatory(ENO)and weighted ENO(WENO)have been introduced to control the Gibbs *** on radial basis functions(RBFs)with the classical WENO-JS weights,a new type of WENO schemes has been proposed to solve conservation laws[*** et al.,***.,70(2017),pp.551–575].The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new formulation of conservative finite difference RBFWENO schemes to solve conservation *** the usual method for reconstructing the flux functions,the flux function is generated directly with the conservative *** with Guo and Jung(2017),the main advantage of this framework is that arbitrary monotone fluxes can be employed,while in Guo and Jung(2017)only smooth flux splitting can be used to reconstruct flux *** 1D and 2D benchmark problems are prepared to demonstrate the good performance of the new scheme.

In a recent study published in Science Advances,Liu et *** that heterozygous deletion of connexin 26(Cx26)in mice is not harmless as they lead to hyperacusis-like hearing *** authors also found that children who carry a single-point heterozygous mutation in the gap junction(GJ)gene Cx26(GJB2)are susceptible to noise,which eventually leads to hearing loss(HL).1 HL affects millions of people worldwide and is considered the most prevalent sensory disorder,encompassing a wide range of heterogeneous characteristics.

Proposing two new methods to decrease lateral-torsional buckling in reduced beam section connections

Reduced web section(RWS)connections can prevent lateral-torsional buckling and web local buckling experienced by reduced beam section(RBS)*** RWS connections,removing a large portion of web can result in shear demand intolerance induced to plastic hinge *** present study aims to resolve the problems of RBS and RWS connections by proposing two new connections:(1)RBS with stiffener(RBS-ST)and(2)RBS with reduced web(RW-RBS)*** the first connection(RBS-ST),a series of stiffeners is connected to the beam in the reduced flange region,while the second connection(RW-RBS)considers both a reduction in flanges and a reduction in *** beam-to-column joints with three different connections,including RBS,RBS-ST,and RW-RBS connections were considered and simulated in *** to the results,RBS-ST and RW-RBS connections can decrease or even eliminate lateral-torsional buckling and web local buckling in RBS *** is important to note that RWRBS connection is more effective in long beams with smaller shear demands in the plastic hinge ***,results showed that RBS and RW-RBS connections experienced strength degradation at 4%to 5%drift,while no strength degradation was observed in RBS-ST connection until 8%drift.

Smart energy management system framework for population dynamics modelling and suitable energy trajectories identification in islanded micro-grids

In an increasingly electrified and connected world,renewable energy production and robust distribution as well as sobriety paradigm,both for the individual and the society,will most likely play a central role regarding global systems ***,while being able to conceive efficient storage systems coupled with robust energy management strategies present significant interests,a number of related studies often consider the human behaviour factor *** not decisive in large industrial factories,human demeanor impact cannot be overlooked in residential *** such,this work proposes an innovative and flexible dynamic population model,inspired from epidemiological methods,that allows simulation of a vast spectrum of social *** pairing this formalization with a smart energy management strategy,a complete framework is *** particular,beyond the theoretical identification of sustainable parameters in a wide diversity of configurations,our experiments demonstrate the relevance of reinforcement learning agents as efficient energy management *** on the scenario,the trained agent enables an increase of the sustainability areas over baseline strategies up to 200%,thus hinting at ultimately softer societal impact.

Smart component monitoring system increases the efficiency of photovoltaic plants

Due to the increasing expansion of renewable energy,especially the widespread installation of solar power plants worldwide,to better exploit and increase the efficiency and quality of power generation,we need to closely monitor the performance of important components of the *** this study,using an innovative smart monitoring system and electronic sensors,we monitored compo-nents such as power in photovoltaic(PV)arrays in real time,including the phenomenon of hot spots as an example of power loss in PV *** of hot spots is very difficult to deal with in a large power *** results also demonstrated smart monitoring that increased detection speed and increased the efficiency rate per supervisory technician by≤36% compared with the previous ef-ficiency rate,which was 10% per technical staff,and increased the quality of the operation of each solar power *** this paper,meteorological data were coordinated with research data to validate the ***,to compare the results of using the smart monitoring method with the conventional observation method,a complete diagram of a 5-kW solar system in MATLAB■2018 was simulated and output diagrams were ***,to provide a comprehensive validation,our research results were com-pared with technical data obtained from a local 5-kW solar power plant located in Sari,Iran(36°33ʹ48″N,53°03ʹ36″E)with an average annual irradiation of 1490 kWh/m^(2).When the simulation results and research are analysed,it is clear that the smart and real-time monitoring approach brings various benefits to solar power plants.

The application of Gaussian distribution deconvolution method to separate the overlapping signals in the 2D NMR map

The 2D NMR(T_(1)-T_(2))mapping technique,which can be used to separate different proton populations from various sources(hydroxyls,solid organic matter,free water,and free HC)has gained attention in petroleum *** separate proton contributions,a fixed straight line is commonly employed to separate different regions representing proton sources on the ***,some of these regions(Region 1 and 2)might overlap which makes extracting the NMR signal amplitude from these regions *** order to solve this issue,in this study,we applied the Gaussian distribution deconvolution method to separate the T_(1)and T_(2)relaxation distributions and then derived the signal amplitude of each region instead of following the common fixed line ***,we employed this method to analyze several shale samples from the literature and compared the results following both methods to verify our ***,samples from the Bakken Shale were studied to separate signals from Region 1 and Region 2 and corelated the results with geochemical properties that were obtained from programmed(Rock Eval)*** demonstrated an improvement in their relation when our approach is employed compared to the fixed line technique to differentiate signal from overlapping *** means the Gaussian distribution deconvolution method can be used with confidence to provide us with more accurate petrophysical and geochemical understanding of complex formations.

On the role of the microstructure in the deformation of porous solids

This study explores the role that the microstructure plays in determining the macroscopic static response of porous elastic continua and exposes the occurrence of position-dependent nonlocal effects that are strictly correlated to the configuration of the ***,a nonlocal continuum theory based on variable-order fractional calculus is developed in order to accurately capture the complex spatially distributed nonlocal *** remarkable potential of the fractional approach is illustrated by simulating the nonlinear thermoelastic response of porous *** performance,evaluated both in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency,is directly contrasted with high-fidelity finite element models that fully resolve the pores’*** indicate that the reduced-order representation of the porous microstructure,captured by the synthetic variable-order parameter,offers a robust and accurate representation of the multiscale material architecture that largely outperforms classical approaches based on the concept of average porosity.

Survivability evaluation for networks carrying complex traffic flows

The capability of a system to fulfill its mission promptly in the presence of attacks,failures,or accidents is one of the qualitative definitions of *** this paper,we propose a model for survivability quantification,which is acceptable for networks carrying complex traffic *** network traffic is considered as general multi-rate,heterogeneous traffic,where the individual bandwidth demands may aggregate in complex,nonlinear *** probability is the chosen measure for survivability *** study an arbitrary topology and some other known topologies for the *** and dependent failure scenarios as well as deterministic and random traffic models are ***,we provide survivability evaluation results for different network *** results show that by using about 50%of the link capacity in networks with a relatively high number of links,the blocking probability remains near zero in the case of a limited number of failures.

The design of astonishing combinations of benzoxazine resins with various fillers is nowadays of great interest for high quality products,especially in ballistic *** objective of this study is to investigate a new hybrid material prepared as multi-layered composite plate by hand lay-up *** composites were manufactured from Kevlar fabrics reinforced polybenzoxazine,which was filled with silane treated microcrystalline cellulose(MCC Si)at various amounts in the *** developed materials were tested for their flexural,dynamic mechanical and ballistic *** aim was to highlight the effect of adding different amounts of MCC Si on the behavior of the different *** to the baseline,the dynamic mechanical and bending tests revealed an obvious decrease of the glass transition of 21℃and a notable increase in storage modulus and flexural strength of about 180%and17%,respectively,upon adding 1%MMC Si as ***,the ballistic test exhibited an enhancement in kinetic energy absorption for which the composite supplemented with 1%MCC Si had the maximal energy absorption of 166.60 *** results indicated that the developed panels,with interesting mechanical and ballistic features,are suitable to be employed as raw materials to produce body armor.
